idmap uid allocation problem
Hi, we've had a machine happily authenticating to an ADS domain for about a year now, and it's recently stopped working (possibly due to changes in the domain or a samba upgrade, unfortunately I'm not sure). We're using an ldap idmap backend running on the local machine. Now though, new domain users can't log in. Running "wbinfo -i newuser" returns an error.

InterDomain Trust Issue; Active directory domain does not return users and groups
I have created a two way Interdomain Trust between a Samba 3.21 Domain and a Windows 2003 Server Domain. I am able to log into the Active Directory domain with my Samba users and I am able to access shares set up in the AD Domain. However, when I attempt to log into the samba domain with a user from the Windows 2003 domain, I get an error saying the username/password is not correct.  From the

Joining Windows XP client to Samba 3 domain: Access denied
Hi all! When I try to join a Windows XP client to a Samba 3 domain I get an access denied error. Below's my configuration and a snippet from the log file. Has someone an idea what I need to change / do in order to be able to join the domain from Windows? Thx in advance for your help! Winbindd filling log file with " final write to client failed: Broken pipe"
Hello, I've set up winbindd to authenticate local users against our active directory servers and everything works fine. I see plenty of the following lines in my logs and I'm wondering if someone can help me troubleshooting this: [2011/03/31 15:15:02, 10] winbindd/winbindd_cache.c:cache_retrieve_response(2666) Retrieving response for pid 8749 [2011/03/31 15:15:02, 7]

getent group fails on member server after upgrade to 3.5.5
I have a member server joined to a samba 3 domain. It was working fine with 3.4.8 but after an upgrade to 3.5.5 (debian lenny with backports) getent group no longer works. getent passwd works fine, wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g work fine I upgraded some other servers which are DC's and those work fine. winbind.log shows [2010/10/21 14:06:13.918006, 3]

Samba 3.5.6 pam problems
Hi, I've setup Samba 3.5.6 as a member server in a 2003R2 domain with a single dc, idmapping is by rfc2307 with a tdb backend for builtin accounts etc, I can list users and groups using wbinfo and I can create shares and access them from the windows server, files and folders owned by ad users show the correct user and group names so mapping appears to be working, I can su to ad accounts but I

interdomain trusts / wbinfo and listent_recv: returned no users
As per earlier post, I was having problems getting trusts setup between my Samba domain (3.0.x PDC, 3.4.x BDC on Solaris 10) and two Active Directory domains (each in a separate forest.) One domain is a test Win 2003 PDC in native Win 2003 mode, the other is a Win 2008 system also in native Win 2003 mode. To summarize some of the progess- things work better if the Samba 3.4 is the PDC,

ntlm_auth: (pipe \PIPE\NETLOGON) has died or was never started (fd == -1)
I'm exeperiencing a strange ntlm_auth problem: I'm running two domain with a trust; the trusting one, (EUFEMIA with the PDC Beatrice) uses the WINS facility of the trusted one (LETTERE, PDC Alice). Users of EUFEMIA and LETTERE alike have a successful logon to Beatrice. LETTERE users do authenticate in Beatrice with ntlm_auth. EUFEMIA users do not: beatrice:/home# ntlm_auth --username

winbind lookup errors
Hello Samba folks, I have recently begun seeing some disturbing behavior from winbind. Winbind will fail to look up users and groups. Examples: The machine is configured to use winbind as a nss module. "getent passwd <username>" will yield no results. "wbinfo -n <username>" will yield "Could not lookup name <username>" "wbinfo -g"

wbinfo -t fails but other wbinfo and getent items work.
Problem: wbinfo -t fails. As long as it fails, I am unable to map sids to Group Names. I need this functionality for my application. winbind: wbinfo -g sees "domain users", getent group does not
I have configured winbind on a Linux file server, connecting to a Samba PDC. When I run wbinfo -g, I can see the group "domain users". On the other hand, when I run getent group, I do not see this group. Apart from a few other groups, all groups are visibile in both wbinfo -g and getent group. When running for the first time wbinfo -u, getent passwd and wbinfo -g, I got the results

Using idmap_rid backend, cannot browse home directory from XP
Samba version is 3.0.10 on Gentoo linux. I am trying to use idmap_rid backend in a Windows AD environment, the Linux PC acting only as a domain member. I am using idmap_rid because I need UID/GID predictability. I can log in to console correctly, and it shows the right user and the "Domain Users" as the group. When I use default winbind TDB, I can browse the home directory from an XP

wbinfo -K not working
Dear List! I have the problem described at http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2008-February/138451.html It is materialized after an upgrade of samba/winbind. Everything was working before. I could not find the solution neither on the net, nor from people originally having the problem, so here I am. This problem is a showstopper for me. (I can login by changing pam_winbind to pam_krb5, but this

solution: wbinfo -K not working
Hi! The problem lies in the "winbind separator" settings. If I use winbind separator = \\ everything goes well. I believe this is due to a bug. As I don't want to register to yet another bugzilla, please someone issue the report there. Explanation: winbindd_raw_kerberos_login uses parse_domain_user to generate the kerberos principal from state->request.data.auth.user at this

User idmap lost
Back on February 28, 2018, I started a thread "User permissions of profile/home directory lost" describing a problem occurring with my wife's user account. Since that time the random problem has persisted so I turned on some debugging. I have been able to determine that somehow her account idmap is broken. Here is the entry for my wife's SID as found in the idmap.ldb file
