Winbind - Getting W2K-User Names Problem
Hallo List,
I have set up a SAMBA 3.0.7 as a ADS-Domain Member with Kerberos and/or
rpc.
Kerberos seems to work fine.
net ads join ... was successfully.
wbinfo -t : checking the trust secret via RPC calls succeeded
wbinfo -u results in
aschmidt
agall
aglock
aklein
aschaefer
aturmus
aweiche
where I expected
DOMAIN+agall
DOMAIN+aklein ....
What went wrong ??
Any hints are highly appreciated

Samba 3.0 + ADS, winbind problem
I'am using Samba 3.0rc1 on a SuSE 8.2 system (heimdal kerberos).
I managed to join a Active Directory REALM, but I have difficulties with
user authentification.
Something may be wrong with my winbind setup:
e.g. I cannot connect from a Windows 2003 Server to a samba share
without being prompted for account and password. Furtheron wbinfo -u
returns "error looking up domain users", but

Help needed: Ubuntu 8.04/Winbind broken under Windows 2008R2 PDC
Hi all,
I am running 3 ubuntu 8.04 LTSP servers that use Active Directory via
winbind for authentication. We've recently upgraded the Domain
Controllers to
Windows 2008 R2 and now domain users can't log in to these linux boxes.
- wbinfo and getent passwd still return correct information
root can still su to a domain user account
id returns correct user info
however login fails. auth.log

If you have a user called 'root', then it is easy, remove it, 'root'
shouldn't exist in AD, it is a Unix only user and you need to

Listing Domain Local Groups from a Samba Member (NT4 PDC)
Good Morning to all,
Sorry if this is spam to some of you, not sure if this
is more technical or not...
Considering i have been fighting for a week now on this trying all
possible checks and configs out there on the net, i thought i better
come to the experts. ;o)
My last resort is to upgrade to latest samba ver which might help but i
think the bug was not fixed in this version not sure.. :o\

Samba 3.3.4-31 ssh/winbind login failure
Folks,
Got an odd one here that's had me scratching my head for a few days! Samba
3.3.4-31 from SuSE's RedHat repository, RHEL5 on x86.
Compiled OK once I'd worked out how to force a build on the libraries I
needed, I also added the code back in to support the 'winbind: ignore
domains' directive in smb.conf. Discovered the hard way that 'make install'
doesn't

Domain Member using winbind and local Unix accounts
Greetings,
I'd like to set up samba to use group and user credentials from our windows domain in mixed mode. I want to be able to give windows users rights to samba file shares without having to set them up with a Unix account locally. If a user does have a local Unix account I'd like to be able to use the local account for permissions.
Is this possible with winbind?
I've set up

help, please, troubleshooting winbind testing during setup of Samba 4 AD member server
Found it! (Thanks to Louis van Belle and Rowland Penny for their guidance).
The wiki page for
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_a_Samba_AD_Member_Server *really*
needs a note about this to be added. It will save a lot of frustration
and wasted time for others coming behind.
The reason I say this is that a default Windows Server 2008 R2 install,
*does not provide* the necessary tools

help, please, troubleshooting winbind testing during setup of Samba 4 AD member server
Hai,
Did you assign any UID/GID to users/groups in the AD.. i think not.
If No, please do so first else you wont see any output.
how : https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Using_RFC2307_on_a_Samba_DC
My advice use the windows ADUC to set the GID/UID
If Yes.. Ok.. thats strange,..
post your (sanitized) smb.conf

winbind/idmap issue on samba4 member server
Hello list,
I'm stuck since 2 days and I have no clue how to troubleshoot and solve that problem. Any help really really appreciated.
Scenario:
=========
I am using Samba 4.1.12/sernet on DC1 (172.19.100.1) and DC2 (172.19.100.2) with default [netlogon] and [sysvol] share only.
I installed an additional samba4 server with fileserving role which is called MEMBERSRV1 (172.19.100.3), which is

Configuring idmap for a Samba 3.2.4 AD member server
I'm hoping somebody can point me to the right documentation for
setting up the following scenario.
Earlier this year I had Samba 3.0.28a working as a member server of a
(Windows Server 2003) AD domain, using Solaris 10 and Heimdal
Kerberos. I was able to log into the server using AD accounts, getent
passwd worked, etc. I was using "secruity=ads" with these settings

I am struggling with connecting samba to our AD servers. Thought it will be

Member server winbind issue
Hi All,
sorry for reopening this thread.
Since I'm still at the same point - with special circumstances - could
this be Debian-Release-related?
In detail:
On Debian 8.11, Samba Version 4.5.16 from Louis' repository, wbinfo
-g, wbinfo -u and getent group AD\\groupname ist working - getent passwd
AD\\username returns noting but
