NTFS problems
So there seem to be some shortcomings in NTFS, still. 1. Symlinks are not supported. Proper symlinks exist in NTFS since Vista, so we should support them. 2. readdir() seems to be broken. I have been using the following test load to generate disk images: http://www.zytor.com/~hpa/syslinux/exttest-20140521.tar.xz Anyone who has been involved with the NTFS code who has a chance to take a

Windows Vista roaming profiles "access denied" forced local profile (samba PDC), but Windows XP OK
Hello, I'm having an "Access denied" issue using roaming profiles for Windows Vista Ultimate RTM (patched to current). The actual login is successful, the full name is set properly and the password is handled correctly, however only a temporary profile is created. The interesting thing is that all else being the same, I do not encounter the same issue for Windows XP roaming

Vista Roaming Profiles and GPMC.MSC
Hi All Our company got a Windows Vista installed laptop even though we ordered it with XP. Now I'm faced with the task of integrating the beast into our samba controlled domain. Something I was hoping to delay for some time. Our PDC is samba 2.2.8a with openldap 2.1.4 We also have a Domain Member Server running samba 3.0.10. There is a document on the Microsoft site that I downloaded

Some Vista Info reguarding Profiles
Hi All, I just started really looking into deploying Vista in a Domain Environment and here is some info I gathered so far: With Vista, Microsoft Updated their "profiles" to version 2, thus Vista profiles will not co-exist with previous Windows profiles. To alleviate the need to specify a different profile for Vista, Microsoft decided to automatically add a ".V2" to the

Samba and Vista profile probs
Yes, if you're using roaming profiles Vista will automatically accept your login (if your PDC is configured correctly, check the firewall on the clients and server also, write/read access to the profile for the current user, but i guess these things were already said here but I'm only replying to your last question without having read most of the rest) The profile is not needed to be

profile terror after passdb loss
Hi, I'm running samba 3.4.0 as PDC with a bunch of Windows boxes (XP, Vista, 7) on the domain. Unfortunately, I lost my passdb.tdb and secrets.tdb files and had to create the domain again on a new setup. Consequently, all domain computers had to be rejoined and all users had to re-enter their passwords. This must have caused major confusion on the clients / controller (I don't know which

Mandatory profile changes languagesetting
Hi, I've set up a domain where some of my users are using mandatory profiles to logon to the network. However, I got one problem that just doesn't go away. When my users log on, they do not get the correct keyboard setting - even if it is the same as configured for the mandatory user + all other users on the client machine. Instead the users get the us-keyboard settings. Also the users

Samba 3.4.7-0.2, Windows 7, roaming profile issues
After update from 3.0 to 3.4.7 roaming profiles were not being saved on XP. Disabled ipv6 on our Samba server (some update must have re-enabled it) and rebooted. Now profiles on XP seem to be working OK again. Not so for Windows 7. This is a newly set up Windows 7 machine, registry fixes were applied as indicated here: http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Windows7 was able to join domain, and

Windows profile properties with Samba
Hello everyone, We are investigating migrating our Windows 2003 active directory domain to a purely Samba one. I am a relative novice to Samba. I have used it many times to do simple file and printer sharing on an individual or workgroup basis, but never in a domain environment. One of the things I need to find out how to do involves delivering Windows profiles. On our Windows network, some

[LLVMdev] Build Clang and LLVM on Win 8
Thanks for your reply. Compiler-rt was a problem. From the documentation I thought it was mandatory (so what is it used for?), but it was giving all those error about stdbool.h missing that I reported. Now things got better, but I have still problems. I receive an error that seems related to the fact that the grep command is missing. Is it possible? If grep is needed, how can I found it in

Vista won't copy roaming profile to server
Hello, fresh installed Samba 3.024 o Debian system as PDC with roaming profiles. Vista only creates user.V2 in [profiles] but not copy profile after logoff. Directory is writable and XP works good. Any ideas? Thanks. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Vista-won%27t-copy-roaming-profile-to-server-tp21910084p21910084.html Sent from the Samba - General mailing list archive at

mandatory profiles, group policies, Samba3 PDC winxp Clients
Hello all, I've been trying to figure out what the best way of doing the group policy thing is. We are running samba 3 on slackware 9 with winxp clients. We are a school. i'm unclear on how much AD is actually supported... OU GPO all that. so i decided to go the "administrative template" way (used to be .pol files) I'm thinking of having the students run off of a

SAMBA and SMB Signing
Hello, We're working on setting up a SAMBA server, but it is not working. There is a standard configuration for our Windows Vista machines. With the previous configuration of Windows Vista ("Alice") it connects to the SAMBA fine. However, the latest Windows Vista configuration ("Bob") will contact the SAMBA server, send the required password then just stop communicating.

recommended procedure for mandatory roaming profiles for win7 with samba 3
Hello, I have a PDC and a File (member) server for homes and profiles (Samba 3.4.17). For XP clients I have mandatory profiles with all user shell folders redirected to their respective home share. Now I'm adding win 7 clients to the mix and I want the same thing. It's (almost) working but I think my procedure is a bit dirty (i.e. I use "windows enabler" to build my ntuser.man
