Multiple subnets, multiple domains and one LDAP
Hi all. I'm being asked to connect two networks, each having it's own PDC and it's own LDAP backend. I would like to know if it's possible to make both PDC's serve each a different domain with a single LDAP backend and having users from DOMAIN1 roaming to DOMAIN2 and viceversa. If it's of any use I have, in the past, set up a PDC+BDC configuration having

Small file performance
Hi Volker, Thanks for the response. The clients are Win 7, Win 10 and various flavours of Linux, with Samba client versions ranging from 3.6 to 4.5.3. There is no perceptible difference between any of them. Network latency is never above 0.2s and mostly sits at around 0.1s. If that's a problem it is so only for Samba. I did as you suggested with the smb options but that just made it

full_audit on Samba 3.0.20 vs 3.0.25
Hi List, Just a quick question for you: Does Samba 3.0.20 support the full_audit module? I've got the module operating on two boxes, one with Samba 3.0.25 and the other with 3.0.20, and only the former seems to interpret VFS directives, such as: full_audit:prefix = %u full_audit:failure = none full_audit:success = open write close On the 3.0.20 box, they seem to be ignored,

WinXP/x64 - MFC CFile objects leak parent directory handles
Samba 3.0.28-0.1.95-1624-SUSE-SL10.3 A strange problem (best read in a proportional font). It only happens on an x64 XP client when accessing a Samba share. The exact same program runs fine on the same x64 XP client when the share accessed is on a Windows server or when it is run on a 32-bit XP client, regardless of whether the share belongs to a Samba server or to a Windows server. Samba file server slowness
Below, you will find the pertinent information regarding my installation and configuration regarding my samba install. I am currently trying to move my companies file server off of windows and on to CentOS using Samba. Everything works great, until I enable vfs_full_audit. Once I do that, the server comes to a screaching halt due to the fact that when a user browses to the mapped directory from

R and XML -- a near perfect combination?
Please ignore my ignorance, I'm new to R, but starting a longish project that will use R a lot. (a computer scientist learning about stats at the same time). Did anybody alreay write a XML parser for R? XML, as we will have tons of data-interchange with all sorts of other programs and XML is good for giving meaning to raw data. I checked the FAQs and the documentation, but didn't find

Full_Audit preventing file writing

smbd_audit: log_success() failed to get vfs_handle->data!
*This message was transferred with a trial version of CommuniGate(r) Pro* Greetings, aLL. There's samba-3.0.23d, running on FreeBSD-5.3 as Win2000 AD domain member. For logging user activity on share VFS module full_audit is used (with help of syslog). Logging works well, but some errors appears in log, especially when changing ACLs on share file objects from win-clients: === Nov 30

Problems with samba and profile syncing from various windows versions
Hi! I've got an old samba installation, now thanks to you all - successfully upgraded to ubuntu 16.04. Samba is the packaged version 4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.6. The problem I have is that for some users their profiles do not sync properly. They seem to upload onto the server, and then at the next logon some files that were deleted by the user come back. It is more per user basis or per

Tracking file activity
Hey List, I was wondering if and how one would go about tracking file activity on a Samba server, for basic auditing purposes. I'd ideally like to see what files where edited, by whom and when. I've done some RTFM and a bit of searching around the 'net, but haven't found anything yet. Even pointers to documentation on the subject would be welcome. Thanks in advance for

loging user actions
Hallo, from time to time some of our users delete files. But none of them do confess that they have deleted the file. I want to find at the samba logs which user has deleted the file. I´m using the audit-vfs module but there are only messages about opening and closing of files. Can anybody give me a hint for using samba logs to find the users I´m searching for? Thanks in advance Peter

Log File Format Changes
Hi all, I'm considering writing a Python module for parsing file access entries from Samba logs. I plan on using regular expressions to do most of this, and I'm curious as to whether or not the log format is consistent across all versions of Samba. If it isn't, can you please direct me to the documentation on any older or alternative formats? I'm currently using Samba 3.0.33

Using Samba over VPN - shares disconnect on Windows clients
I am running Poptop 1.1.4 VPN server, Samba 3.0.6, RH 9 (2.4.20-8 patched for mppe-mppc). When the end user connects via VPN, they can create a share to the samba shared folder that was created. When they clost the explorer window, then reopen the shared drive from the "My Computer" view, the share can not be re-opened with the error that the mapped drive is alreay in use. I have

Illegal instruction: 4 (core dumped) when running testparm & [sn]mbd with default config
I'm running FreeBSD 8 on a Sheevaplug (ARM5 processor) I compiled and installed Samba 3.3.9 from ports using defaults and defaults for dependencies. I left the smb.conf file untouched, ran testparm and immediately received the coredump. The same happens running smbd and nmbd. Can anyone help me resolve? http://old.nabble.com/file/p26879957/testparm.core.gz testparm.core.gz -- View this
