Why do Interdomain trusts try to use kerberos
I have setup a test PDC with samba 3.4.7 on a fedora core 12 linux
machine. I have setup two way interdomain trusts with a Windows 2008
domain. The domain and forest functional levels are Windows 2003.
Since the samba machine is not emulating an Active Domain Controller,
the Windows 2008 machine should think it is talking to an NT4 server.
And since NT4-based domains don't use

Why do Interdomain trusts try to use kerberos - updated
On my test Samba PDC, I updated the krb5.conf file to add realm info for the
Windows 2008. This seems to have resolved my "wbinfo" issue. "getent
passwd" is still not working (I did update nsswitch.conf) but I suspect this
is because of an idmap allocation issue. The syntax for idmap allocation
in smb.conf seems to change between 3.0, 3.2, 3.3 and 3.4.

trouble with GDM -- linux client to samba
Hi all,
As an experiment I'm trying to log into a samba server (3.3.2) from
GDM. Both systems are running Ubuntu 9.04 and LDAP is not involved.
But it's not working.
The test user credentials are donkey/donkey .
On the client:
# net rpc join -S 192.168.0.1 -U root
Enter root's password:
Joined domain LAB-SAMBA.
# wbinfo -t
checking the trust secret via RPC calls succeeded

interdomain trusts / wbinfo and listent_recv: returned no users
As per earlier post, I was having problems getting trusts setup between
my Samba domain (3.0.x PDC, 3.4.x BDC on Solaris 10) and two Active
Directory domains (each in a separate forest.) One domain is a test
Win 2003 PDC in native Win 2003 mode, the other is a Win 2008 system
also in native Win 2003 mode.
To summarize some of the progess- things work better if the Samba 3.4
is the PDC,

Need help getting roaming profiles to work
Hi!
First, let me apologize for the length of this message. I wanted to
include as much relevant info as I could and it got a bit lengthy.
For reasons that I won't bother to detail here, I ended up
volunteering to upgrade the server at my kids school. It's a small
private school with an all-volunteer tech support staff (me!). We
currently have about 40 computers serving about 150 people.

negative effects of using idmap_tdb in large forest
Hello,
I am trying to understand the downside of having each winbind member
server being configured to use idmap_tdb vs ldap or ad. It is part of
a large forest with multiple domains. What will happen? What won't
work?
Thanks!

"Idmap uid range missing" - 3.0.0beta2-1 on Debian Sarge
Hi there--
I'm using Debian testing ("Sarge") and recently upgraded to 3.0.0beta2-1 from
2.2. It broke, and I've been pulling my hair our trying to get it working again.
I've gone to a Samba HowTo troubleshooting guide:

and gotten successfully through test #4 (NetBIOS Name Resolution) but can't get

RID idmap backend: difficulties looking up a user by its uid
Hi,
I'm having a problem using the RID idmap backend with Winbind. Having
configured NSS with the Winbind module, I can use "getent passwd" to
look up a user by its username, but not by its uidnumber. However, if I
first do a lookup using the username or run wbinfo on the user
(specifying either the username or uid), and then try "getent passwd"
with the uidnumber, I

Hi,
I'm trying to get winbindd to obtain uid and gid info from M$ AD (Windows

AD. I assume I have something wrong in my smb.conf, but cannot figure out
what it is:

idmap GID range became full without reason
Please excuse my ignorance: I have been running Samba for a little time, and I've very little experience with it.
I'm running Samba 3.0.37 on FreeBSD 7.2/amd64, configured as member server of a domain whose PDC is a Samba 3.0.25b-apple (the default Samba instance running on a Mac OS X 10.5.8).
The member server is sharing a couple of folders for 5 users (most of whom are using Mac OS

Ldapsam Editposix & idmap help required
Hi, I am more or less following this tutorial Ldapsam Editposix =
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Ldapsam_Editposix but can't quite get my
domain to work.
I think the issue is with the idmap part of the smb.conf but can't quite
figure out what's wrong with it or what the correct format should be.

Error loading module '/usr/lib/samba/pdb/tbdsam.so'
Brief history, originally setup as Ubuntu 7.10. Upgraded to 8.04.1LTS,
Samba 3.0.28 and has latest updates installed as of this morning.
Currently Samba is configured to use smbpasswd for passdb backend. As
tdbsam has become the peferred backend, would like to migrate to tdbsam.
When I attempt "pdbedit -i smbpasswd -e tbdsam" I get the following
result: "No builtin backend found,
