Simple group question...
New to this windows domain stuff, sorry ( at my age learning new stuff
can take a while ).
I've set up a domain and joined a couple of XP workstations to is and
all is fine. What I want to do now is to ensure that the users of these
PCs still have administrative rights on their PC's.
Can anyone show me the basics / point me to a good guide on how to do
this???
TIA,
Steve

upgrade to 3.3 on debian lenny.
Does anyone have experience with the upgrade from 3.2 ( in lenny core )
to the samba provided 3.3 debian packages?
Specifically, I'm looking for a list of gotchas in this process, as I'm
short on machines I can use as test servers...
Cheers,
Steve

performance tweaks??
Has anyone any tips on improving samba performance with debian lenny?
I've set up a raid 0 partition on a couple of new WD 1TB disks,
formatting the majority of it as a single reiserfs partition. I must
admit I should probably have set the blocksize to something other than
the default at the time, but now it's well populated, changing stuff
like that is going to be a big problem.

Windows 7 + Samba 3.5.6 = abject misery...
Can anyone help with this? I set it all up a few months ago, the samba
side being standard upgrades via debian - configured as a PDC, and the
windows 7 clients being clean installs, with the standard
lanmanworkstation regedits done.
They've been working fine since then, but have now started failing,
instead raising the error message

changing the character set.
Hi list,
I've set up a simple domain providing shared disk space to a small
company. As an extension of this, I've connected satellite office via
openvpn, and am mounting a chare on that site over cifs, and backing it
up on to the main domain storage.
This remote share is on windows XP, and it's throwing up a couple of
errors due to incompatible wide characters -

This is a really weird one. To the ( XP Pro ) client, I can join the domain, but can never log in. I've looked all over for a troubleshooting guide, but none have found the problem.
Help!!!

When Joining the domain ( over an openvpn connection ), the client log shows:

CENTOS4.6+SAMBA3.0.25+FEDORA-DS

I am new to linux & Samba. I would like to setup Samba as a
domain controller and using Fedora-ds for authentication.
I have read some documents from www.samba.org but I am still in
the mist.
Here is my dumb questions about Samba as follows.
1. Is CENTOS4.6+SAMBA3.0.25 as PDC +FEDORA-DS possible?

Constrain slope in segmented package
Hello,
I'm currently using the segmented package of M.R. Muggeo to fit a
two-slope segmented regression. I would like to constrain a
null-left-slope, but I cannot make it. I followed the explanations of
the package (http://dssm.unipa.it/vmuggeo/segmentedRnews.pdf) to write
the following code :
fit.glm <- glm(y~x)
fit.seg <- segmented(fit.glm, seg.Z=~x,psi=0.3)

question "add user script"
Hello all,
I have never had the need to use the "add user script" functionality but now I do. However, it does not seem to be working. My
smb.conf entry is like so:
add user script = /remote/configure_scripts/addusers.sh
where addusers.sh is a bash script that reads in a text file of usernames, groups, and passwords and adds the users to /etc/passwd,
/etc/group/ and

samba-tool set default group
Hi
How do I set the default group for a user?
e.g.
samba-tool group add opensuse
samba-tool group addusers opensuse steve
But steve's default group is still Users.
I'm looking for soething like this:
'samba-tool group setdefaultgroup steve opensuse'
But here isn't that command. I have to do it in Windows.
Is there a command I'm missing?
Cheers,
Steve

RE Linux and SMB using single passwd
Thanks for the reply.
This will not quite do what I want as I dont want local unix users, only smb
users.
Reason: if a smb user is added and only an smb user and the Linux system uses
pam _smb, I can deliver pop mail to the user without them having a local unix
user. I have this working very well with LDAP and NIS where I only add a NIS
or LDAP user but no unix users and I can still deleiver

How to read NT Domain accounts from a Unix box
Hi,
Is there any open way of reading user/group accounts of a NT
Domain from a Unix box? I guess, rpcclient is more like a hack of
MS protocol.
Is it the only way currently? Can anyone give more information on
this?
Thanks in advance.

UNIX -> WinNT Username/Password Synchronization Revisited!
Hello all!
Brief Scenario:
We use a home grown "Accounts Registration Server" (ARS) to create, track,
modify and delete required accounts (via a secure TCP connection) on
various host computers (currently only OpenVMS and Digital UNIX servers).
We currently use a DUNIX box as the primary student POP3 mailserver (which
also runs SAMBA). Account registrations (approx 30,000) are

"credentials check wrong" only with Windows NT4 Clients
Hi,
we tried to migrate an NT4 Domain to Samba3.0.4. We took the easy aproach and
started to dump the NT PW Database with "pwdump" and the groups with
"addusers" which were used to build the initial LDAP DB for the Samba Server.
The SID was set and the Samba PDC was started as a replacement for the NT
one.
Loggin on to the Domain with Windows 200x and XP machines works

Linux and SMB using single passwd
Hi All,
I would like to set up a samba server but using the same user / pass for unix
logins and smb logins.
This works fine if I use non-encrypted passwords but I have to apply the
registry patch to set my win98 clients to use non-encrypted passwords.
Could I use pam_smb to authenticate the Linux box against its own smb server
then use encrypted smb passwords?
I understand that if the smb
