Samba, LDAP and machine account weirdness....
Hi.... I am using Samba 3.0.2 with LDAP as the passdb backend for both user accounts and for machine accounts. I have noticed something which looks a bit strange. It seems that at least some machines (I don't think all machines, but can't be sure as of yet) appear to be having sambaPwdCanChange and sambaPwdLastChange modified in their account entry in the LDAP tree..... I thought that

sambaNTPassword does NOT write to master LDAP when machines auto change the values
We have SuSE SLES9 servers with LDAP master/slave replication (24 replications/BDC's) All working fine -joining domain etc. The problem I am having is PC's at remote sites (BDC) with a local replica (OpenLDAP) periodically change the sambaNTPassword/sambaLMPassword on there own and write to the local LDAP server and do NOT follow the referral to the master. I have written scripts to

Problems with userPassword when it's base64 encoded
I'm switching from OpenLDAP to the newly released Fedora Directory Server (formely known as the Netscape Directory Server) as a LDAP backend for my Samba domain. I'm now faced with a problem regarding how Fedora DS handles the userPassword field. Unlike OpenLDAP it encodes it in base64 so instead of reading userPassword: {SSHA}0lP+r3Z1NVan7Caf4CG9oSgnTbQRrv/p it reads: userPassword::

changing password on samba bdc
Greetings All. First let me introduce my situation Machine1: Pdc Samba + OpenLDAP(master) Machine2: Bdc Samba + OpenLDAP(slave) LDAP stores Samba and POSIX information for each user. Case1: I login to Machine1 and invoke smbpasswd. I change my passwords (samba and posix without any problem). In next few seconds they get propagated to Machin2 wher I can login with new credentials. ldap log

Can't join machines to a Samba PDC using LDAP
I've been trying to do this for days, and I think I'm really close. It's become one of those so-close-yet-so-far sorts of things. I'm running Gentoo -- all sync'ed up and current as of a week ago -- with the following package versions: openldap-2.1.30-r5 pam_ldap-178-r1 nss_ldap-239-r1 smbldap-tools-0.9.1-r1 phpldapadmin-0.9.5 (very cool, I must say!) samba-3.0.14a-r2

Replication errors with LDAP and problems with NT machines
Hi all! I work as a computer technician for a small school and have recently upgraded our network to use samba servers. Our main computers are a PDC, a BDC, a file server and a backup server, all using Red Hat Fedora Core 3 as a base. The clients on our network consist of machines with Windows XP and a few with Windows NT. Everything seems to work just fine except for some minor but annoying

Samba is deleting samba-passwords out of ldap-tree
Hello, I try to install a PDC with Samba 3.0.23 and openldap 2.3.27. I can join the domain with a win-xp-Machine, the User-Accounts are in ldap and looks like the following: dn: uid=ds,ou=people,dc=marco,dc=de userPassword: {crypt}RVp32Kd9mkUek sambaLogonTime: 0 sambaLogoffTime: 0 sambaPwdLastSet: 0 sambaProfilePath: \\homedirs\ds\.ntprofile sambaPwdCanChange: 0 sambaSID:

sambaLMPassword
I have a Samba-PDC installation (version is 3.6.3) with openLDAP. When I change the password from a client (Windows/XP and Windows/7) the attribute "sambaNTPassword" is changed and I can log-in with the new pssword. The problem is that the content of the attribute "sambaLMPassword" is deleted. I remember that in my previous version of Samba (3.0.28) both attributes were

samba 3.0.0-1 + OpenLDAP
Hi All, after so much suffering I finally have my rh9 box working with openldap-2.0.0.27-8 and samba-3.0.0-1. I still have some problems as follow: 1 - Once I've joined a machine to the Domain I only can logon using root user; if I try to logon as Administrator the system tells me that username and/or password are not correct. 2 - If I try to use the parameter 'passdb backend =

Password policies in the LDAP server
Hi We have some Samba servers using LDAP (389 DS) as backend. In the LDAP server, we have defined some policies to make the passwords stronger. When a user tries to change his password (Control-Alt-Del), this message appears in the LOGs: ==> /var/log/samba/xptest <== [2010/06/28 12:26:26, 2] auth/auth.c:check_ntlm_password(309) check_ntlm_password: authentication for user [10000001S]

Friends, I am having a very strange problem that I can't debug. Please help. I am using ldapsam which was working fine last night. Today without having done anything, I cannot login. ldap passwd sync not working

ldap backend failing
Hi, I have an ldap provider and consumer that appear to work correctly, EG, new users are sync'ed and a search on either server (ldapsearch -x -b 'dc=example,dc=com' '(cn=djohn)') returns an oject. However when an XP user attempt to connect to the consumer server the authentication fails: [2011/06/10 16:11:21, 0] lib/util_sock.c:write_data(1059) [2011/06/10 16:11:21, 0]

strange behaviour of the "ldap passwd sync" option
Hi, i'm trying to set up a samba (samba 3.0.25a) PDC with the ldapsam backend on FreeBSD (FreeBSD 6.2) and i have some trouble with the "ldap passwd sync" option. I must say here that my goal is to use the ldap smbk5pwd overlay in order to keep in sync the unix and samba password when the user change his password from a unix workstation either via ldappaswd or passwd (configuration

Machine accounts by migrating from smbpasswd to ldapsam
Hi all, I'm wondering what about machine accounts (WinXP) by migrating from Samba 2.2.8 with authentication backend /etc/smbpasswd to Samba 3.0.4 with ldapsam. Is it possible just to take NT hash from smbpasswd and paste it to ldap record as sambaNTPassword? I'm not able to login from machine vs3 to new domain. My configuration files and log files follow. The Samba-SID is the same
