printernames vs. sharenames
Hello,
when I assign a printer driver to a printer from a windows client, the
printername now changes to the drivername.
Yes, I can see the SPOOLSS_SETPRINTER call with the printername property,
but that's definitly not what I want (or would expect).
E.g. when I change the drivers of 3 printers to HP Laserjet, I get 3 printers
with the names "HP Laserjet [(Copy 1|2)]". These

What will happen if I disable reverse check for \\server\printer on samba?
Hi team,
In Samba 3.6, rpc_server/spoolss/srv_spoolss_nt.c file has this stance at
line 1740:
/* some sanity check because you can open a printer or a print
server */
/* aka: \\server\printer or \\server */
DEBUGADD(3,("checking name: %s\n", r->in.printername));
result = open_printer_hnd(p, r->out.handle, r->in.printername, 0);
if (!W_ERROR_IS_OK(result)) {

Printer Admin Difficulties
I have been trying to setup a new print server on Fedora 12 based around
samba-3.4.7-58.fc12.x86_64 and cups-1.4.2-28.fc12.x86_64. All looks
good except for the ability for printer administrators to manage
printers. Whether I specify users in a system group using the
deprecated printer admin option, or specifically using net rpc rights
and the SePrinterOperatorPrivilege, it does not matter.

job fails to print via samba 2.2.6-pre1 - lpd ASCII a nd postscript test works fine...
Ah, it appears that I have confused myself...
I indeed have ALL of the queues defined as JetDirect with the model
specific driver selected in printconf.
With this combination I am telling linux to modify the job [via the filter]
and then pass it as a RAW [jetdirect] where I SHOULD just have the queue
define as JetDirect with a RAW as the driver and let the job go as
transmitted by the client

print directly on another computer's LPT
how do i print directly to another computer's LPT port?
printing via GDI is no problem.
i have application that must print directly to LPT ports
on several computers. on local printer, there's no problem,
but i can't access LPT port on another computer.
in windows, i could simply map it to LPT2, and use the LPT2
"net use LPT2: \\servername\printername"

Samba 3RC4 printing issues
Hi
Couple of printing issues that I can't get around. Probably relevant conf
sections at bottom. Minor one first:
In the Add Printer Wizard (the place most users look first), the Samba print
server is not listed. Manually typing the \\server\printer works fine, but
this is "difficult" for users adding printers on the fly. Adding the
printer from \\server\printers works fine too,

Trouble with 'NET ADS JOIN'
Hi All,
Any clues as to what is causing this? I have seen similar questions asked
before in regards to joining ADS domain but have not been able to find a
solution to my problem.
The domain is a Native mode ADS on win2k3 with signing required. Please let me
know if additional info or logs are required to diagnose the problem.
I did a 'net ads join ADSDOM -U

<printername>.tdb error management...
Sometimes (rarely, very rarely) i spot a <printername>.tdb error that
seems to prevent the communication between samba and CUPS.
In log i see:
[2019/06/26 15:15:49.633876, 0] ../source3/lib/util_tdb.c:316(tdb_log)
tdb(/var/cache/samba/printing/sml5010-2.tdb): tdb_rec_read bad magic 0x25 at offset=26096
the only solution i've found, pretty drastic, is:
systemctl stop

Slow printing / print properties with CUPS and Samba sort-of-solved
I've been banging my head against some printing problems
that I've been having for quite a while. This weekend
I am migrating an old server to new hardware and a new
base OS, but the version of Samba and CUPS remain the
same. Because of this I moved all the config files
and the contents of /var/cache/samba from the old
server to the new. (Foreshadowing: this was a mistake,

Problem adding printer using MSRPC
Hi,
When I try to add a printer using APW, the printer gets added
successfully. However, when I try to add a printer using the MS_RPC
addprinter command, the script fails with access denied. Please let me
know if I am doing anything wrong.
Thanks,
Guru.

Dutch VOIP-PSTN provider
Hi,
I read a lot about US providers that can terminate a PSTN
number for you and offer IAX or SIP connectivity.
Does anyone know such a company in The Netherlands ?
I read about Unet. Anyone with experience with them ?
Any information is welcome.

Printing banners
Hi
I'm running Samba 2.2.8a on a UnixWare 7.1.3 box. I'd set up the Samba
printer shares, and it seemed to be working fine (only live for a couple
of weeks). However, I've just added some heavy users, and the printer
daemon keeps bombing out. I'd configured the printers to use lpr, but
someone suggested I should use lp, so I thought I'd give this a go at
the weekend.

printing question
I have some more information concerning my print management speed issues from last week. In a level 10 log, I see several 'print cache expired for queue <printername>' whenever I try to open the Printers folder. After uploading a driver, I see the same behavior when trying to close the Properties window.
This makes administration unbearably slow. I am about to try non-cups printing

Remote print problem
I am running Centos 4 and I am trying to use a printer on a Windows
domain that is connected to a Windows XP Pro computer.
If I do
smbclient //ComputerName/PrinterName password -U UserName
and then
/> printmode text
/> print /tmp/test.txt
the printer works.
However, if I setup the printer and check the CUPS printers.conf, it
appears to be correct, but I get NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL when

Print queue doesn't clear
I suppose this is a basic linux question as much as it is a Samba related
question. I have configured my 2.2.5 redhat 7.3 server to *not* supply the
drivers (too many problems). Everything is fine now, but one exception: the
print job remains in the queue after it prints. The job shows up as
"Paused". This leaves the printer icon in the tray on the client.
The reason I mentioned it is a
