PDC -> BDC Question
Hi Everyone,
I was wondering I am setting up a BDC at another physically separate
location on a different subnet, and I am currently working on what files I
need to have copied between the computers and which need to be made on each
server. The specific question I am dealing with is what TDB files I need to
replicate filesystems between the two servers. Below is a list of what the
files I

User migration issues
I've been looking throught the archives for a set of things to be done to
migrate a install with samba 3.2.5 (lenny) to another server (wheezy)
I can cope with the name change, that's no problem, but I'd like to avoid
having to recreate the users on the new server, so far I tried this,
without much success
- scp the smb.conf to the new server
- make hot backups
cd /var/lib/samba

what are *.tdb files?
In /varcache/samba/ I have several .tdb files. Like brlock.tdb,
locking.tdb, ntdrivers.tdb, etc. Excusing my ignorance, what are these
files, and what do they do? And why must they be copied when migrating
from one samba server to a new one?

WG: Windows vista ultimate samba 3.0.31
I found the solution:
I tried the srvmgr tool from microsoft to get connected to my samba 3
domain (from an XP client).
And this tool told me the same "There is no PDC found for your domain.
You may go on but but your rights may be
Restricted." As I logged on I saw that both my PDC and BDC where BDCs.
I stopped my BDC. Logged on to my PDC and remembering that I had also

Question about tdb files
Hi list
I'm running a samba 3.0.24 with an ldap backend and as a print server.
The server is also serving printer drivers for my Windows clients.
If more information is needed please let me know.
I have a question about tdb files.
Some of my tdb files haven't been touched since my installation in
december 2005 and I'm thinking if this is something I should consider
critical or not.

3.0.8pre2 and tdbackup
Hi @all,
backing up and verifying _printing_ databases uses 20-96% cpu and takes a long time (there are only few entries and smbd and nmbd were not running):
for i in /var/lock/samba/?*.tdb /var/lock/samba/printing/?*.tdb /etc/?*.tdb
do

echo $i.samba.bak
rm -f $i.samba.bak
tdbbackup -s .samba.bak $i

WG: Which version of CTDB
I did a new rsync and compiled ctdb new. This version did not establish a
new config file!!!: /etc/sysconfig/ctdb. I had to use my old one.
After starting ctdb recognizing that ctdb wants his state directory in
/usr/local/var/ctdb/state
I could not fix that in /etc/sysconfig/ctdb file. So I had do mkdir
/usr/local/var/ctdb manually.
After starting ctdb on both nodes all nodes rest unhealthy. And

Problem Save Printer Properties
Hi,
I have configured Samba 3.0.14a as PDC and Printer Server on a LAN.
Everything goes well:
- Users can do logon to the Samba NT Domain
- Users can print on the network "raw" printer
I tried to load the driver via Add Remove Printer Wizard on the network
printer, I can copy and install the driver, but when I tried to save the
configuration pushing the botton Apply or OK I recived

upgrading to samba 3.0.22
Hi,
tonight I've tried to move Samba 2.2.3a-15 from our old debian woody
machine to a new, different server, which is a ubunut dapper box,
running Samba 3.0.22-1ubuntu3. But I get a 'Rejecting auth request from
client' error,
What I did:
1) copied following files from /etc/samba/ to the new machine:
MACHINE.SID
smb.conf -> see here: http://129.70.34.180/~schoppa/smb.conf
