WG: PDC -> BDC Question
Hello Nick, I do not think it is possible to just copy files like this from one to the other samba. You can do the copy job with rsync or scp. I made a samba PDC and BDC with ldap master ldap slave. So on both servers are the same users Groups etc. Both machines must have the same SID Greetings Daniel -----Urspr?ngliche Nachricht----- Von: samba-bounces+mueller=tropenklinik.de@lists.samba.org

what are *.tdb files?
In /varcache/samba/ I have several .tdb files. Like brlock.tdb, locking.tdb, ntdrivers.tdb, etc. Excusing my ignorance, what are these files, and what do they do? And why must they be copied when migrating from one samba server to a new one?

Question about tdb files
Hi list I'm running a samba 3.0.24 with an ldap backend and as a print server. The server is also serving printer drivers for my Windows clients. If more information is needed please let me know. I have a question about tdb files. Some of my tdb files haven't been touched since my installation in december 2005 and I'm thinking if this is something I should consider critical or not.

User migration issues
I've been looking throught the archives for a set of things to be done to migrate a install with samba 3.2.5 (lenny) to another server (wheezy) I can cope with the name change, that's no problem, but I'd like to avoid having to recreate the users on the new server, so far I tried this, without much success - scp the smb.conf to the new server - make hot backups cd /var/lib/samba

Proper use of tdbbackup
I have googled a lot, but I have found no examples of the correct use of the tdbbackup program. I am looking for some advice on how to use tdbbackup. I mean, I know I can simply run "tdbbackup *.tdb", but I was looking for in-depth information on when and how to use it, about best practices on using it, or what NOT to do. The Samba documentations says I should run it in my start/stop

I have moved all databases from /var/lib/samba to /var/lib/samba_lock folder, add: lock directory = /var/lib/samba_lock to smb.conf and it is working now - i can log into domain, i can browse machine list etc. but in logs i have many errors like that: lut 14 23:46:31 codo smbd[13803]: [2004/02/14 23:46:31, 0, pid=13803, effective(1002, 221),

Migration samba 3 to 4
Hello, I am working on the migration of our samba 3.5 domain controller (redhat 5.7) with ldap backend to samba 4.5 on a new server (debian 9.5). On the new server I transferred the smb.conf and all the contents of the /var/lib/samba folder to a temporary folder /root/samba3. To start the migration I use the command: # samba-tool domain samba3upgrade --dbdir =/root/samba3/ --realm =

Users can't login on XP workstations
Hello, I'm running Samba 3.2.5 on Debian, with tdbsam backend. For the past few days, I've had trouble with starting Samba (which I do routinely once a day) but with users unable to login on Windows workstations. When this happens, the current smbd.log shows no activity (not even the "starting samba" event) and the previous day's smbd.log shows entries like these:
