Does tdb can store incorrect encoding symbols?
Hello, All!
I found that Samba checks description fields encoding at various tdb files to late.
Case 1.
FreeBSD with UTF-8 support. At some cases FreeBSD's adduser script can save incorrect UTF-8 sequence to GECOS /etc/passwd field. (Here is example http://www.acc.tula.ru/~acc107_3/samba/miscoding/gecos.txt)
When user is added to Samba, Samba reads GECOS field "as is" without

Can't connect Windows 7 client to Samba 3.3.12 on AIX
This samba is scheduled for upgrade. We've been testing samba 4.3.8
packages (from BULLFreeware) on other AIX. It was not easy the install,
even with RPM packages.
I hope to do the upgrade soon, but I need to have this particular user
working now. What puzzles me is that I have other windows 7 PCs happily
working on the same resource.

Conversion error: Illegal multibyte sequence
Hello list,
I've noticed this problem for a few years now, I think. I see it popped
out now and then in discussions. But they always end before a solution
is given.
So let's try one more time :-)
I have plenty of UTF-8 named files and directories. It's UTF-8 all
round, I don't use anything else, so I have no doubt the byte sequences
are correct in the filesystem (I happen to

Cannot browse domain user list with 3.3.9
Hi,
I am trying to upgrade Samba from 3.3.2 to 3.3.9 for Win7 compatibility
issue.
It is running on Redhat 9.0 (I've planned to upgrade to Centos 5.5 in a
second setp) and without any ldap backend (tdbsam actually).
As I have already done in the past for upgrading, I have done the following
procedure :
1) Compile 3.3.9 . My configure option are :
./configure --with-acl-support

net rpc share allowedusers fails half the time?
Hi all,
[Please CC me in reply, I'm not subscribed]
We have a weird situation on one of our shares, net rpc share
allowedusers fails with NT_STATUS_IO_DEVICE_ERROR. Normally the command
is run with the password passed on the command-line. If we manually type
the password or turn up the debug level, it works. If we turn up the
debug output but direct the output to /dev/null or to a file, then

Hello all,
I'm running samba server ?3.0.25b-1.el4_6.4 on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux
ES release 4 (Nahant Update 6). The server is set to be a part of the
Windows AD domain. The domain name is IIS. In the /var/log/samba/wb-IIS.log

slow directory access, convert_string_internal: Conversion error: Incomplete multibyte sequence
There are definitely some files with some weird names- in an ssh session they don't even have regular characters.
e.g
-rw-rw---- 1 xxx xxx 114985112 Oct 31 14:39 ▒^t
Not sure if that is related to problems though.
The top command shows
Memory: 12G phys mem, 343M free mem, 2048M total swap, 2048M free swap
This is in the evening so should not be much load but I think

Samba 4.2.0rc4 can't authenticate users
This problem shows up on both Linux and Solaris. I am going to show
the logs from a Fedora 2.6.25-14.fc9.i686 machine.
We are using 'security = domain' with a Windows 2000 domain controller.
We are setting 'password server = starfish2' dispite the fact that the
documentation says that this in not necessary as we have found it to
be necessary. We are setting 'workgroup =

Hi,
I just updated my samba servers (debian wheezy, sernet samba4) from
version 4.1.12-9 to 4.1.14-9 and suddenly all my hp printers produce
errors instead of printing.
Kyocera printers are still working. HP printers all use HP Universal

Windows Server 2003 32Bit and Windows 7 clients.
Here's an level 1 log of what
