Migrate Samba 3.0x tdb to Samba-3.0.2a ldapsam
Hi guys/girls,
How are you ?
I'm looking at migrating my Samba-3.0.1 server which has the standard tdb
backend to Samba-3.0.2a with an LDAP backend.
I plan to use nss_ldap too.
What would be the best way of doing this ? Any assistance would be greatly
appreciated.
Kindest regards
David Wilson

Samba 3 LDAP account db concepts
Folks,
I some very basic questions with regard to Samba and LDAP backend
account database use. I am familiar with LDAP and have been
using ldap for a while now to store info for a variety of services. I
have been using Samba as a stand alone file server with user
account info in /etc/passwd for a while as well. I am now trying to
build samba 3.3.0 as a standalone, non PDC, on solaris 10

using LDAP and PDC together
Hello,
I am in the process of migrating to
passdb backend = ldapsam
on debian unstable with the latest 3.0pre samba package.
All users have a ldap sambaAccount object which was added by hand after
using migrationtools from padl.com. Testing auth with smbclient works
fine, however when using samba as a PDC from WinXP I can't log into the
domain as I used to when "passdb backend =

Samba and file access latency
I've recently migrated a handful of shares from Samba ver 2.28 to
ver 3.3.4 w/ LDAP backend. Both cases are stand alone samba servers.
So all is working well and I have managed to iron out some of the
kinks, however now my users are complaining about excel files ( on
the shares) taking too long to open as well as to save.
I did some tests to get some numbers to deal with and in fact see

samba ldap configuration & attributes needed
Folks,
I am attempting to get an install of Samba authenticating against a Sun
DS as a "stand alone" smb server eg. non PDC.
I have the host OS ( solaris 10) properly configured to authenticate
against the directory, the directory schema modified
to accept the PosixAccount and SambaSamAccount objectclasses, smb.conf
configured and in place and a test user in place as well.

Practical guide to migrate from tdbsam to ldapsam
Hello people!
I'd like to know about a practical guide which helps to migrate users
from a perfect working Samba PDC running with tdbsam backend to a new
backend to LDAP. Does "pdbedit -i xxx -e xxx" make all the job? My
network is growing and I need a directory service to help find people so
I'd like to see a LDAP server running well with Samba without rebuild my

Convert ssha password to sambaNTpassword?
Is it possible to take a SSHA password from an ldif and create a proper
sambaNTpassword from it? Here's the scenario: the ldap servers in our
organization do not have the samba schema installed and the likelihood
of that happening is slim. I still want to provide clients with as
close to a single sign on solution as possible and I can get an ldif of
the accounts I need. However, the

Migration script from smbpasswd to LDAP
Hi everybody,
i need a migration script from smbpasswd-file to a ldap database. I
searched a lot in google in the archive, but found only hints for
changing the perl scripts of padl migration scripts.
I have only poor perl knowledge, so i ask here, if anybody made a script
which would help me.
Thanks a lot.

Question on Samba and Sun Directory Server 5.2
I have been asked to implement Samba and integrate it with our Sun
Directory 5.2 servers. I am looking for any advice that will point me
in the right direction. Such as Schema modifications and such. I have
found articles talking about openldap but nothing really about Sun's
Directory Server. I have just started researching this, so any help
would be appreciated.
Thanks,

How to migrate samba 2.x account to ldap backend
Hi there,
Is anybody has ever made this: Migrate samba 2.x users (and their unix
accounts) to an openldap? I've found plenty of how to for building a
blank samba/ldap authentication system, but nothing for migrate existing
samba 2.x account (but samba 3.x)... smbldap-tools are useful for
creating groups etc., migratetools are useful for unix account, but what
about samba 2.x?
Is anybody

Adding existing ldap users as Samba users
Hi people:
I have a LDAP server running OpenLDAP that serves authentication
purposes to services like ftp, imap, openvpn, etc. Now I implemented a
Samba PDC based on LDAP.
I did the configuration with Samba 3.2.5 on Debian Etch and
smbldap-tools. I was able to join a WinXP workstation to my domain
without problems but I can't login with any existing user in my LDAP
directory.
Then I added my

last ldap question ;-)
Ok guys,
i'm giving up. To clarify this whole thing for me please tell me:
if you have ldap and samba configured together do you still need to have
local accounts in /etc/passwd in order to use smbpasswd or pdbedit
utility? (_fact_: smbldap-useradd.pl using them anyway _fact_)
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Kiryl.

Create machine account samba 3 - can I delete machine in /etc/passwd ( I use ldap backend ) ?
Hi,
The idea is to avoid to have machines accounts in /etc/passwd
and store all on the ldap.
I must have a machine account in /etc/passwd ( normal way ) to
create the account with pdbedit -a -m machine_account.
In fact once it is created , I can delete the account in the
localmachine and machine can connect without any problems. ( the account
stay only in the ldap ). I 've done it.

Samba write performance in kernel
hi,
I would like to know is it possible to make writing file to samba completely in kernel?
I'm using a slow CPU (FA526) , and the memory copy is even slower. The reading performance is over 7 MB/s, with mmap and sendfile enabled, while writing is only 4-5 MB/s. Without mmap and sendfile, reading from samba is also about 4-5 MB/s. I use Oprofile to profile writing file to samba and found

I am trying to achieve a Flash-like menu with OnMouseOver effects on

rolled over the text and if you go mouse crazy on the divs, the
script seems to remember where it cut off, and doesn''t roll down
completely afterwards.
Is it a good place to ask for help? I couldn''t find any Scriptaculous

openldap - samba
I am having a problem getting users that were added in smbldap-useradd to be
able to login.
After I add them they are visible, but you can see I get this error -
pdb_get_group_sid:
Failed to find Unix account for test10
I believe that this has something to do with nss_ldap. because doing a
getent passwd, it doesn't display any smb info.
Any debugging info or help would be amazing, I'm

looking for a pam_smbpass user to answer passwd sync issues
I need to let my users change their password using PAM to preserve the
existing ldap authentication system. How can I force pam to sync the smb
password to the unix one.
I am running Fedora 7 package on an x86-64 system. I have smb working
via ldap and sambasam.schema (v3.0.24) I have unix password sync = yes
but it should not come into play as I never plan to reset passwords via
smbd.
