Samba using ADS
Hello list,
I am using Samba with ADS authentication. I am able to map drives and
open and close files with no issues with the exception of Microsoft
Outlook email files. So from within Outlook, I open one of these email
files and I get an access denied error. Even if i put 777 permission on
the files in question I get the same error.
I am using LDAP as a user and group store if that means

Winbind IDMAP question.
Hello all,
I have joined my linux boxes to AD and can authenticate using Active
Directory usernames and passwords using Winbind.
I want to Authenticate to AD but have that user mapped to a local Unix
or NIS ID otherwise the AD authentication is useless and only hinders
with file permissions and such.
My first questions in regards to an ADS domain member server.
Can Winbind be used to map a

Hello list,
My samba server stopped allowing access to shares this morning. It gave
some funky errors. Has anyone seen these before? The OS is Fedora 9 and
the version is...
Version 3.2.0pre3-9.fc9
Am using ADS security for serving shares.
Server is EXAMPLEDC.EXAMPLE.CORP
Looks like it is saying no login servers in client log but, there are
two listed in smb.conf and they both replied to a ping

Not all files copied
First time posting to this mail list. Be gentle :-)
Project: Building new Linux Fedora server to replace the existing Solaris 10
x86 server.
Rsync is being used to transfer files from the current server to the new
server. The rsync daemon didn't want to start on the older server via inetd.
Not a big deal, I just manually started it.
The first directory being copied is /home.

mount_smbfs and samba 2.2.0
I know 5.1 isn't considered part of -stable, but it doesn't really seem like -current either, so I'm asking here. If this is the wrong place please let me know where I should be.
At work I have a 5.1-R box that I'm trying to use to mount shares from a Sun box running samba 2.2.0 as well as some Win2K boxes. Both the sun and win2k machines authenticate to the company's domain

Is mount_smbfs broken in 6.1-PRERELEASE?
Anyone know if mount_smbfs is broken in 6.1, I'm trying to run this:
"mount_smbfs -I 192.168.1.2 //nbritton@192.168.1.2/music2 /mnt/network/music/"
And then it asks for my password, I type it in, and then I get this error:
"mount_smbfs: unable to open connection: syserr = Authentication error"
I've had this same problem on another 6.1 box too... I can run this

Samba local master browser crashes the Windows domain master browser
Hi all,
I have a Windows 2003sp2 domain with a few Samba 3.0 member servers.
This domain services about 700 XP PCs distributed across 15 or so subnets.
On one particular subnet there are about 300 PCs, 2 or 3 2003 member
servers and a samba 3.0.28 member server (solaris). When/if the samba
server picks up the local master browser role, it will cause the domain
master browser to crash after a

UFS on zvol: volblocksize and maxcontig
Hi all!
First off, if this has been discussed, please point me in that
direction. I have searched high and low and really can''t find much info
on the subject.
We have a large-ish (200gb) UFS file system on a Sun Enterprise 250 that
is being shared with samba (lots of files, mostly random IO). OS is
Solaris 10u3. Disk set is 7x36gb 10k scsi, 4 internal 3 external.

msdfs root = yes is the default???
Why is that when you create a share, the default is 'msdfs root = yes'?
Also, why is that a share that is set 'msdfs root = yes' -- or, rather,
a share that does /not/ set 'msdfs root = no' -- advertises that it is a
DFS root to the Linux CIFS client, /even /when 'host msdfs = no'? This
sounds like A) a bug (ignoring 'host msdfs', and B) a misfeature (msdfs

mount_smbfs: can't get handle to requester (no /dev/nsmb* device)
Hi all !
I have a little problem here mounting or browsing samba shares.
I have a FreeBSD 4.6.2 running samba, and a share on that called public.
when I try to mount that share it asks for password, and then gives an
error:
ex.
libra# mount_smbfs //maxi@samba/public /mnt
Password:
mount_smbfs: can't get handle to requester (no /dev/nsmb* device)

More mount_smbfs
Thanks to Will Saxon I'm finally able to mount Samba shares on my 5.1-R
box using the command
mount_smbfs -I 129.197.36.34 -W acct01 //bfosdick@129.197.36.34/net-11
/sp/net-11
which then prompts me for my password. So now the question is...how do I
put this in /etc/fstab? What do I do about the password?
