Problems with file locking over gnome-vfs (esp. OpenOffice.org)
Hi.
First of all, I will probably post this question several places, at
least here, on the ubuntu forums, and perhaps OpenOffice forums. It is
a problem that I'm not sure if really is samba related, Openoffice
related or perhaps even OS related. As stated in the heading, it's
about file locking, so many apps come into play.
I work at a school where we teachers use mainly Ubuntu Hardy and

symlink on Linux vs. Windows clients
I'm using SAMBA for many years, in my SOHO - I'm quite satisfied.
One small question is up every time when I'm creating a symlink on the
SAMBA server box from a share to point to a moint point for example
/mnt/some_block_device (of course read/writable for particular user),
windows cleanly "see" it, as a directory entry - I c?an copy/remove do
everything what could be done on

Samba performance issue
Hello, I sent the following message to the Debian folks.
They don't think that the Debian packaging could be responsible for the
issue described there.

Hi,
I got back from two weeks away and appear to have lost audio on my
tdm411 fxo. Everything was working properly when I left. I checked the
logs, config files and can't see any problems, the zap channels and
modules are all loaded properly, asterisk starts without probs and
everything looks sweet on the colsole with -vvvvvvvvc when I make calls,
but I just don't hear a dialtone or

MGE Ellipse 800 shutdown problems - using upsmon NOTIFYCMD
upsmon.conf using NOTIFCMD and NOTIFYFLG is working well, it is calling my
script "notify" on requested events (ONBATTERY,LOWBATTERY and ONLINE).
Command
#upsmon -c fsd -u monmaster myups at localhost
gracefully shutdown my box and after several seconds switch off the ups's
load.
Two problems:
- notify script is called and executed as user "nut" (as it used to be

Steve says there are two utilities in Linux,
getcifsacl and setcifsacl that use a custom
ioctl inside the Linux cifsfs kernel

courier to dovecot migration
I have a quite old home server based on Debian 6.x packages using courier
imap server (exim4, fetchmail, courier, apache2, squirrelmail) to keep my
and my wife emails (about 25G).
I want renew my server to Debian 10 (buster) and got a recommendation to
use dovecot instead of courier. For this purpose I'm using a different PC
as a sandbox. Debian 10 currently offer dovecot version 2.3.4.1

Using Access Control Lists with SMB2/SMB3 Mounts on Linux Clients
Thanks for the first reply, Jeremy.
What about the (future) implementation of RichACL?
Will there be any native Linux Client support along with the SMB2/SMB3 protocol?
I know, there is a native implemenation for RichACLs in ext4 FS.
Unfortunately, smbcals is not a native Linux ACL Tool and has a very unhandy syntax.
I just tested some days ago. ;-)
I am looking for a solution that allows the

Very slow samba performance on Centos 6
Hello all,
I have 2 identical Dell r510 servers with 10gig card, running centos 6 with
samba-3.5.4-68.el6_0.2.x86_64.
I setup 16G ramdisk samba share on both and ran cp from local ramdisk to
samba ramdisk mount.
If I cp 12 1-gig files, I get combined 100MB/s transfer rate. Single file cp
maxes out at about 15MB/s.
Ftp transfer give me over 300MB/s.
Running with 9000 MTU. Most smb.conf is
