How to smbmount a share on a domain
I'm running samba 2.2.5 on a RedHat 8 box. I need to mount a share from a PC
that is on a domain that the linux box is not a part of. Normally with another
PC you would specify your username as DOMAIN\user, how do I do this with
smbmount? I've looked at the documentation, google, etc. I can't find anything.
Is this even possible? Here's what I've tried:
smbmount //dd192/PM

Question about mount.cifs and smbclient
Hi!
I have a problem for a few weeks, and can't figure out what could be the
problem.
The client computer runs RHEL 5.2 (arch: x64_64); the smb server is
unknown for us.
I'm sorry, that I can't provide any info (usernames, servernames, IPs,
etc), they are masked to look like variables. But they are correct as
far as i am concerned.
When I try to mount it with mount.cifs (.smbfs

NT_STATUS_INVALID_WORKSTATION and SAM.workstation-restrictions
hello,
on one larger domain-member-setup i'm currently facing the annoying
NT_STATUS_INVALID_WORKSTATION error-messages, caused by user specific
workstation-restrictions that prevent users from attaching shares on that
domain-member server (2.2.8a with winbind).
is there any workaround except for adding my samba-domain-member
netbios-name to each user's "userWorkstations"-list

ntlm_auth NT_STATUS_INVALID_WORKSTATION Question
Hi all,
I have samba4.2 (Version 4.2.0pre1-GIT-6d2f56d) as AD domain controller.
Some users can only logon to specific window workstation. Now, we want to
configure the samba AD as the user authentication of squid. I use the
following configuration in squid. The users without workstation limitation
can successfully authenticate to squid, but the user with workstation
limitation cannot.

Hey folks...this is my first time working with samba and I'm stumped here! I
cannot get smbmount to work for the life of me, and I've been playing with
this for a few days now to no avail. I'm hoping someone here might be able
to help me out, so I've included as many details as I could think of. Also,
if this is the wrong forum, I apologize in advance...please point me to the

smbmount not exiting in script
I run a script to mount several file shares from machines running W98
and W2000 so that I can do incremental dumps every night of these file
shares.
smbmount almost always fails to exit. This causes the script to stall
and so the dumps are not done. In the am, if I kill the smbmount
processes, the dumps complete successfully, since the mounts were in
fact correctly completed. (I know that

smbmount of XP share results in Permission Denied
Mark Hessling posted about this problem earlier but I (and he) have not
seen any reply to his original post.
I was running Samba 3.0.0 on a Redhat 7.3 server for quite a while and
then recently upgraded to RHEL 3.0 and Samba 3.0.9 (3.0.10 most
recently). Before the upgrade, I was able to, from the Samba server,
mount shares from an XP box. After the upgrade, the mount succeeds (it
shows up the

smbmount codepage/iocharset settings vs NT4
Hi,
I'm in the process of setting up a backup server for a somewhat
antiquated NT4 server. Backup server is CentOS-4 (~ RHEL-4),
kernel-2.6.9-11.EL, samba-client-3.0.10-1.4E, rsync-2.6.3-1,
LANG=en_US.UTF-8. NT4 shares are mounted on the server and rsynced to
local disk.
This setup is working pretty well, however on the NT box there are some
files with names containing odd characters like

smbmount and 2GB limit.
Hi,
I am mounting a windows 2000 share on a linux box (2.4.18) using smbmount
(2.2.2). I can create files >2Gb on both the systems, but I can't copy a
file >2Gb from the linux box over the smbmount. The file size limit is
exceeded and the "cp" command core-dumps.
Has anyone solved this problem?
I had installed the samba binary rpms; is there a patch-n-compile solution

samba-2.2.3a and openldap
dear list,
I have some problems with samba-2.2.3a and openldap-support.
Password changing with smbpasswd -a <username> is working properly.
(Username is an existant user who can either be stored in a regularly
/etc/passwd file or in another nsswitch-compatible service like ldap.
In this case the username is an ldap user.)
Password is changed automatically in the directory server. Pretty

smbmount ... error
I've spent the last 3 hours (it seems like) going over postings in the
comp.protocols.smb newsgroup trying to find a solution for this problem.
It seems that a lot of folks have had the issue, but none of the posts
I looked at had any useful resolution. Here's the error:
28968: protocol negotiation failed
SMB connection failed

Weird authentication difference between smbclient and smbmount
Hello
I already posted this in smb-clients, but seeing the load difference
I repost in the samba list.
I am currently using samba 3.0.10 with kernel 2.6.9.
In the doc one is encouraged to use 'security = user' level.
If I then connect with 'smbclient //machine/share -U myname%mypass' all works
well. But when I try to mount the share localy with
smbmount //machine/share

smbmount 2.0.6 quirks
I've noticed a couple of weird things about smbmount 2.0.6, that seem to
stem from the fact that it creates a separate process:
(1) It always immediately returns success (as from Perl system('mount -t
smbfs ...'), whatever happens later, including failure. Any way to get
a real exit status?
(2) It always dumps a bunch of what looks like debug output ('bind
succeeded' blah

Patch: patches for smbmount opton documentation ( smbmount.8.xml )
Hi,
I use samba on Linux 2.6 and 2G over size file sharing.
It seems smbmount '-o lfs' need to use with large file.
but default man page doesn't say this option.
I want to edit smbmount.8.xml for lfs and unicode option.
I believe using mount.cifs is right way on latest Linux.
But one of the implementation smb_clients tools take this
lazy option.
Is it right way to change of man page

"smbmount" and Linux kernel-2.0.37
Hello,
I tried to compile Samba-2.0.5b with smbmount after setting the
configure-option "--with-smbmount". On systems (SuSE 5.0 and
SuSE 5.3) running Linux kernel 2.0.35 and 2.0.37 I didn't have
success:
