Unable to modify TDB passwd ERROR
I'm trying to track down why I can't seem to add a computer to the domain.
I've looked high and low to no avail. Right now, when I try to add the
computer as a "trusted machine," I've added it to the Unix passwd dB with
the appropriate machinename$ and the added the machine to the dmbpasswd
via:
smbpasswd -a -m machinename
But, when I go to add the machine to the

Using mail_chroot and default_mail_env
Settings for mail_chroot and default_mail_env are not playing well together.
It seems that default_mail_env is verified to exist *before* the chroot
but is later used *after* the chroot.
A configuration like this:
* mail_chroot = /var/mail/example.com/username
* default_mail_env = maildir:/Maildir
Fails with the message:

password sync "Failed to open/create TDB passwd" - some progress
I made a little progress. It is partly a file permissions error.
If I change the permission of /usr/local/samba/private to 660. Since
the unix Administrator (ie. Windows Domain Administrator) is in the
sysadmin group, this gives it read-write permissions to this file.
Under windows, as the Domain Administrator, I can now change account
properties such as "password never expires."

Samba+LDAP: NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL because of primary group SID mismatch
Hi,
I'm trying to get my new samba server running for a few days now and I
start losing my mind over not figuring out what I'm doing wrong. Here's
my setup:
OpenLDAP 2.4.21 server with ~15 groups and >100 users, all having a unix
and a samba NT password stored in the LDAP as well as a User SID and
Primary Group SID assigned and stored in the LDAP, derived from the SID

LDAP weirdness
Dear Sirs,
I installed OpenLDAP and smbldap-tools by IDEALX.
samba is 3.0.7, smbldap is 0.8.5
what else did I do:
1) smbldap-populate
2) pdbedit -i smbpasswd:/usr/local/private/smbpasswd -e
ldapsam:ldap://127.0.0.1
3) smbpasswd -w <clear text password>
what is not very clear, should I use the same Manager account or not.
however, account information was exported to LDAP

"net rpc" commands don’t work on Samba AD DC
Hello,
I built Samba 4.5.4 on a FreeBSD 11.0 machine, and I’m trying to set up
an AD DC with a file share.
So I did this:
- enabled ACLs on my UFS2 filesystem (before compilation)
- successfully provisioned (rfc2307, internal DNS)
- tested local shares, DNS, Kerberos
- adjusted NTPd as suggested in Wiki
- added this to the global section of smb.conf:
template shell = /usr/sbin/nologin

Samba share not working: getpwuid(1000) failed, Failed to finalize nt token & NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL
I have a small home network with server and 5 clients all on an internal
LAN with private IPs.
Samba, Version 4.7.6-Ubuntu, file sharing is not working on the server
for any of the 5 clients. I have tried both mount.cifs and smbclient.
The same errors are thrown in the server's samba logs for all connection
attempts, regardless of how the client tries to connect: getpwuid(1000)

Moving a computer from a down domain to a new domain
I had been running a samba server, the AMAHI F12 distro, that has samba
3.4.9. It ran well enough, but I was planning on replacing it with
ClearOS. Well monday night I lost my server harddrive, so now it is
crunch time to update/upgrade.
I think I have ClearOS configured properly, it is running samba 3.6.10
(Redhat 6.4 based). So far I have tried to add two of my XP systems to

Modify and backup winbindd_idmap.tdb
Hello list,
Is there a possibility to add entries to the winbindd_idmap.tdb manually?
I know I can use tdbdump to see the entries, but is there a chance to modify?
My problem is I have to map some uid to some Windows SID without using LDAP. On the other hand new user not having any uid in linux should map to the range of uid I defind by using
idmap uid = 10000-20000
2nd Question:

Failed to modify entry for user in samba with tdb backend
I have a debian server with samba. I can no longer manage users accounts. I
can't add, modify or remove them.
This is Debian wheezy with samba 3.6.6. There is no ldap and the database
backend is tdb. I usually managed users with smbpasswd, but it no longer
works.
When I try to create a new user:
# smbpasswd -a blabla
New SMB password: ****
Retype new SMB password: ****
