Problem deleting/renaming files
Hi - We have been using a samba configuration file similar to that listed below for some years without issue. However when carrying it over to a new server running Samba 3.4.0 (-3ubuntu5.1), we started experiencing problems deleting files via Windows Explorer; attempts to do so are resulting in 'Access is denied'. Similarly, attempting to change the name of a file or directory is

[PATCH] kinit/nfsmount.c path from bootp

[patch] ipconfig add dhcp file preseeding support
From: Geert Stappers <stappers at debian.org> To make klibc-ipconfig transmit the DHCP vendor class "d-i" and get the DHCP preseeding filename in a text file, it needs the attached patch. belows patch allows ipconfig to be used in Debian installer once the hostname is sent too, see http://blog.andrew.net.au/2006/05/17#d-i_dhcp_hacking Signed-off-by: maximilian attems <maks at

[PATCH] Escape DHCP options written to /tmp/net-$DEVCICE.conf
DHCP options like domain-name or hostname are written to /tmp/net-$DEVICE.conf which is typically later used by other scripts to determine the network configuration. This is done by sourcing the /tmp/net-$DEVICE.conf file to get all defined variables. This patch escapes the DHCP options written to /tmp/net-$DEVICE.conf to prevent arbitrary code execution. Samba 3 handles Linux permissions differently then Samba 2 ?
Hi, we have a problem with permissions migrating from a custom 2.4 kernel Linux distro with Samba 2.2.5 to OpenSuSE 10.3 (with samba 3.0.26). We used to have directories like this (relative to the Samba share): /root/dir0/dir1/dir2/dir3/userdir1-1/userdir1-2 'root' and all it's parent directories have '0755' Linux permission. dir0-dir3 all have '0711' permissions

[PATCH] Don't try to guess the nameserver in ipconfig.
klibcs ipconfig tries to guess the nameserver if no nameserver is provided. This may happen due to misconfigured dhcp or the use of the ip= parameter. This patch removes the guessing from ipconfig as it is not possible for any other script to determine if the provided nameserver is valid or a guessed one. If the old behavior is really needed this could be easily implemented in an external script.

cifs module and nocase option
Hello all, I have a question about the cifs module. I need to mount cifs mounts from Linux clients to a Samba 3.0.22 fileshare. I then use the cifs module to mount the share. My problem is that i need path and filenames to be case insensitive from the client part. Solutions i found are: 1) use 'unix extensions = no' in smb.conf 2) execute 'echo 0 >
