smbd using 95-100% CPU and going very slow
Hi All, Using Debian stable 2.4.27 with Samba 3.0.24 Currently experiencing a problem where I am trying to back up a mailstore, which is in Maildir format. This has been working fine up until about 2 weeks ago. The mailstore is 88GB in total, which is 150,000+ individual mail files. The drive is 97% full. The server is also running exim-4 and dovecot, which appear to run fine. Below is an

A smbd process pegging CPU at near 100% with v3.0.10-1 FC2 RPM
CPU 99.3%: 2170 root 25 0 11656 3228 10m R 99.3 0.5 0:07.42 smbd We're having the same problems as many others with print queues, client lock-ups, etc. I think maybe this CPU problem is related as we have two servers in two locations with the same versions, and both had the problem immediately after upgrading to 3.0.10. We use the YUM facility to upgrade Samba. To react to these

Hi All, I have a samba 3.0.4 installation on AIX 5.2 ML05. The problem I am facing is that sometimes one smbd is looping and consuming up to 100% CPU time. In the log I see the following entry: =============================================================== [2005/10/18 11:35:34, 0] lib/fault.c:fault_report(37) INTERNAL ERROR: Signal 11 in pid 39316 (3.0.4) Please read the appendix Bugs of

A smbd process pegging CPU at near 100% with v3.0.10-1FC2 RPM

First time linux and samba user having 100% cpu usage by smbd.
I am running RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 update 2 on a HP ML110 G4 with 2 x 500GB SATA drives in RAID1 using the onboard HP SATA RAID. I have installed both the .rpm for SAMBA that came with RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 and subsequently uninstalled and then installed the current 3.0.24. The problem that I am experiencing is that this server is to be used for backup. Two other windows servers on

Samba logs fill up disk with inotify errors, smbd 100% CPU
Please forgive me if direct email is not appropriate, but I am at my wit's end. I am running Kernel 2.6.35.2. Previously, I was running 2.6.32.something (don't know at this point). Samba is 3.4.8-59. I have been getting the inotify errors on both the old and the new Kernel, to the point that it filled my hard drive and made my Windows/XP unrecoverable. It appears to only happen

Samba logs fill up disk with inotify errors, smbd 100% CPU
Hello, One of the server I maintain has Ubuntu 8.04 LTS server with samba 3.0.28a. Kernel version is 2.6.24-16-server. The samba setup for this server is a workgroup environment, with user level security. At least once a week, sometimes more often, the server becomes unavailable because the system disk is full. It appears that the samba logs are the problem. Although the samba configuration

Server crashes every hour at mass logout, smbd at 100% CPU
Hi my server crashes every 90 minutes. There is no helpfull message in any logfile, the only thing i can see is that smbd consumes 100% CPU. The server hangs completely, no access to console, no networking. This might have something to do with user logout. This server stands in a school and about 150 pupils log out after each lesson. I assume it has nothing to with printing, as printing

smbd+ldapsam infinite loop, cpu=100%
Hello, We have been running samba v2 for quite some time without any problems. But after the upgrade to samba-3.0.5 some anomalies have come out. I've compiled it with LDAP authentication support; the LDAP server is installed on the same machine and the communication is done via sockets. After working fine for some time, and as usual creating multiple threads from the smbd proccess, it

SMBD using nearly 100 percent CPU
Over the past few months, I have seen many postings here about runaway smbd processes with Samba versions 3.0.20 and above. Personally, it never happened to me until today. Also, I have stuck with Samba 3.0.13 on most of my machines because of THIS reported issue and a couple of other issues that I have experienced. However, I have a machine running RIGHT NOW where smbd has gone out of

cannot kill smbd processes
Hi there, A customer of me still uses Samba 2.0.2 and it did work until know. At the moment we are not able to stop the smbd processes and it is very hard to gain access to the samba shares (only one user managed) even when we do a "kill -9 " (noot recommended) the smbd processes are available. Does anybody have an idea how to solve this ? Met vriendelijke groet, Laurens Wagemakers

sluggish behavior
Greetings, This is my first stab at this mailing list. Forgive me if I am over/under verbose. We have been running KVM for a while now and love it. Recently I have noticed a weird anomaly that is getting on my nerves. When I clone (GUI or virt-clone from CLI) both* virt-manager* and *virsh* enquiries get extremely sluggish. Using top I cannot see any resource issues. No I/O wait, the load

Can't kill smbd process
Hi, Since this week my Samba keep accumulating smbd process that keep lock on files and neither me as root or samba itself can't kill. The only way to release the locked files is to reboot the machine and this is really annoying for all the clients. I read in a forum that this might be link with a kernel corruption, but this threads hasn't been active in a long time and wasn't so

Slow access from Windows 7 to samba share on CentOS 6.6 after upgrade
Hi all, Did anybody notice a really slow access from Windows 7 (especially from the MS Office suite) when trying to open a Word-doc for example, that sits on a samba share on a computer recently upgraded to CentOS 6.6? It can take up to two-three minutes to open a 20 kB Word-doc... I tested with the latest available LibreOffice for Windows on the same Word-docs, but this one doesn't show

Fonts have changed w/o warning
Newbie here, I've been installing apps and they've been working pretty darn good. I don't know what I did (or what an installer did), but now all my fonts (I mean ALL) are wingdings (or wingding-ish) looking. Obviously, I can't read a darn thing. config hasn't changed and my location of fonts haven't either. It appears to me that some default pointer must have
