So it seems we've found the problem - just in case someone else encounters it. We had previously joined the Server with net ads join, and the attributes were still present in active directory, and the vista client tryed to force a kerberos blob on the samba server - which was promptly ignored/rejected. The solution was deleting the AD entry for the server and re-joining. Mit

Vista SP1, Server 2008 joining NT4/Samba Domain
Hello! It seems, that Vista SP1 and Server 2008 cannot join an NT4/Samba-domain. Vista once could join before SP1, if one did some modifications to the system (LAN Manager authentication level, Encryption of secure channel). But these workarounds do not seem to work with SP1 anymore. Microsoft points out that joining NT4-domains with Vista SP1 and Server 2008 is not supported/tested

samba 3.4.0: point'n'print does not work
Greetings, I upgraded my samba v3.2.4 to v3.4.0. Now point'n'print does not work. I get the error 'Windows cannot connect to the printer. Operation could not be completed (error 0x000006f7)' when I try to connect to any printer share from a vista 32bit client. So I download v3.3.6 and install this over top. point'n'print is working for me again with v3.3.6. Any

High resolution graphics from R Windows Vista
Hi I appreciate there has been some recent discussion regarding generating publication quality graphics in R. I am fairly familiar with these issues and have had no problems generating high quality images from R windows version. However, I have recently install Vista and what previously worked well under XP now looks substandard when generated from R (using tiff(), jpeg(), etc) and I haven't

Cups + Samba + Vista?
I have followed the various guides online for setting up Cups and Samba, to where you can just right click a print and choice connect and the printer just works but then it does not work with Vista. It seems to print out tons of junk. Is there a way to make Vista work with Cups + Samba?

Samba & Vista
Hello, Does anybody know if Samba is compadable with Vista Yet? If so, is there a way for a group pr user policy to allow samba users to things in windows vista, like install programs w/o admin access. I know Vista has policies that can do this, where it cna basicly grant the user access, witha prompt or w/o a prompt. Can Samba support this too?

Samba and Vista?
I just purchased a new HP laptop running Vista Home Premium on it, turned it on and was able to get it to connect to the Internet through my home wireless network. But when I tried to see other computers on my network I got nadda... One of my computers is running Win2K so perhaps that is understandable, one XP Pro which I don't understand why Vista can't see it, and three of my

Chainloading from Vista x64 bootloader to Extlinux?
Hi syslinux list, Some months ago, hpa was kind enough to help me troubleshoot booting Extlinux in a system with the following particulars: * Windows Vista x64 bootloader in the MBR and Vista installed in /dev/sda1 * Extlinux 3.72 installed in the first sector of /dev/sda2 and Foresight Linux installed in /dev/sda2 (at the time I tried, 3.72 was the default bootloader in Foresight) The problem

access problem on linux mounted Windows Vista share
Windows Workgroup, private network with a Windows Vista PC sharing a folder for full access to a specific user name. The share is browsable and readable from other PCs on the network. I can mount the share on linux (Debian /Ubuntu) with no errors BUT have no permissions on the mount point once mounted (see below). # mkdir data # mount -t smbfs -o username=xxxx, password=xxxx //CHEDDAR/data data

Problem with .libPaths & Rterm.exe (under Vista)
Dear list, I?m using R embedded in another program (coded in tcl/tk) under Windows Vista. In this context I don?t launch Rgui.exe but rather Rtem.exe. Now I have a problem finding libraries not specifically installed as administrator (and which are not in the path ?program files? but in Contacts\Documents of the current user). To be precise, the user launching my tcl/tk program can?t find

Windows Vista 64-bit support
Where does the R build for Vista X64 stand? The last update message is from July last year (see [R] Improved Windows Vista compatibility from Prof Brian Ripley on 2007-07-11). Is it likely to happen in 2008? I suspect that more people will start using it as Vista is adopted more widely. And I'd certainly use it for large genomics data sets. Thanks, Dan Gatti UNC-CH

Vista (pre-installed OEM editions) creating new files or folders on network shares
Hi, This post is to prevent other people that are having trouble with Vista clients from going down a blind alley investigating problems in their samba configurations. After some research I have found (see link below) that there is a general problem for pre-installed OEM editions of Vista Business (and possibly other vista versions) in creating files and folders on network shares. The problem

Vista compatibilty in SIP softphones
Greetings list, I've noticed over the last couple of weeks that, unsurprisingly, nearly every new PC seems to be coming with Vista these days. I expect it'll only be a matter of time for all of us before clients start needing Vista-compatible softphones (if it's not already happened). So, what's the story with Vista compatibility amongst the softphones currently out there?

Browsning problems from Vista
I have a setup where a Vista machine that is behind a NAT connects to a Linux (debian) machine to access SMB shares on that machine. The connection is made with VPN using L2TP/IPSec. I have configured the Linux machine to act as WINS server and PPP will give the Vista machine a new IP on the same subnet and also tell Vista that the WINS server is the Linux machine. I have added one share

bad performance Vista <-> Samba over gbit
Hi, I've a strange issue with the performance of file transfers between a Samba server and a Vista client. My configuration looks like this: fileserver: Samba 3.3 on FreeBSD 6.2 ----- gbit switch ----- workstation: Vista x64 When transfering files between the two PCs, I get abount 6.5 to 7 MB / sec. On my last Vista installation I got about 40 MB / sec. I've tried the following: -
