cupsaddsmb -v, Warning: PPD file not found?!
Hello all,
I am running a Debian testing/unstable system with samba 2.2.3a-6 and
cupsys 1.1.15-4 as a member server in a samba domain. I have used CUPS to
add a networked HP8100N printer and it works fine locally, but I'm having
difficulty adding it to samba for Win98 domain clients to use.
I ran cupsaddsmb to add the printer and drivers to samba, but it cannot
find the PPD file... where is

How to repair corrupt ntprinters.tdb?
Hi,
we are using samba 3.0.24 as a printspooler for 80 network printers with
a 500kB ntprinters.tdb for some years now. When we recently restarted
samba we noticed that the ntprinters.tdb automatically shrinked to 24kB
and printing was no longer possible.
tdbdump of the original tdb-file is impossible too:
"Failed to open ntprinters.tdb"
The strange thing about this: we can solve

Administering samba locally without opening root to the net?
Hello.
I'm trying to find a way to administer a (set of) standalone
samba machines (3.x style) locally.
Most things are now done using `net rpc' command. But this one
connects to a (local) samba server over network, and hence requires
auth.
Another example is pdbedit tool which accesses local passdb.tdb
file directly as long as user running this command has the
necessary permissions.

Printers don't stick
Hi,
Having a weird problem here.
We've got Sambe 3.0.14a and cups 1.1.23 on a Debian system. I've run:
cupsaddsmb -U RALPH\\jgoerzen -a -v
Where RALPH is our PDC (and it also the machine I'm running this command
on). The entire command *appears* to work, but:
* None of the tdb files in /var/lib/samba, including ntforms.tdb,
ntprinters.tdb, etc. have their date stamp updated.

Corrupted ntprinters.tdb
Hi,
we are experiencing periodic problems with our samba/cups setup:
It seems like workstations which are locked but where users with the
SePrintOperatorPrivilege are logged on destroy the ntprinters.tdb.
This always takes place when the logrotate on the sambaserver runs the
postrotatescript and restarts cups while the client is doing whatever it
has to do.
/var/log/messages says:

Access Denied to Printers
Hi!
Trying to trace down a problem with printer sharing. I don't see
anything glaringly obvious with my smb.conf. I am using LDAP and CUPS.
Using a Windoze client, accessing a printer I receive the friendly
"Access denied, unable to connect". Checking the Samba logs, I find:
[2008/11/07 18:26:08, 0] param/loadparm.c:process_usershare_file(8268)

How to backup/restore printer settings?
Hello All,
We have a problem with our samba-based print server (a redhat EL
machine, running samba 3.2.8) occasionally getting corrupt
ntprinters.tdb files. To combat it, I've been keeping nightly backups
of the file, and restoring the latest whenever it crashes. This
_almost_ works. When I restore the file, some of the printer settings -
such as which driver it is using - seem to restore

tdb search optimization
I'm running:
# smbd -V
Version 3.0.24-2.28-1354-SUSE-CODE10
In a 600 print queues print server, but I'm experiencing a low performance while
using the first queue. I was attaching ltrace/strace to some processes with "use
mmap=no" and I found a BIG difference in information gathering in ntprinters.tdb
between the first and the last print queue (using alphabetical sorting).

cups printing and user names from trusted domains
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Im currently running some tests for a samba/CUPS based print server.
The print server is a member of an NT domain and uses winbind to import
NT domain users. Users accessing the print server will be not from the
same domain but from trusted domains.
Everything basically seems to work, once you use sufficiently new
versions of cups and samba. (I'm on Debian

Different "printer preference dialog" between windows and samba
----------------------------
OS: CentOS 5.2
Samba: Samba 3.0.28-1.el5_2.1
Printer: HP LaserJet P2105n

I setup a linux print server for windows clients.
First I downloaded the printer drivers for windows from HP website (both the
Universal Printer Driver PCL6 and the PCL6 driver for P2105 series), and
installed them on my windows client, then it created a local printer

PDC migration: printing trouble.
Hi all,
we've been moving an old Samba 2.2.x PDC install to a Samba 3.0.28 PDC
install. We copied the ntdrivers.tdb and ntprinters.tdb from to old to the new
server. After the migration, everything was just fine, except printing seemed
to be somewhat slower. As more and more user logged on, the machine got really
sluggish and printing took quite long. We figured out we've got bitten

Adding printer drivers from WinXP
Well I'm trying to setup the Samba server to act as a print server too.
I had uploaded the drivers for the 4 printers we have and I installed
all 4 printers on my test computer and it worked well. But when I got
back from my vacations one of the tech told me that he couldn't install
the printer drivers from the server and when I check the driver didn't
seem to be in the driver list

PDC -> BDC Question
Hi Everyone,
I was wondering I am setting up a BDC at another physically separate
location on a different subnet, and I am currently working on what files I
need to have copied between the computers and which need to be made on each
server. The specific question I am dealing with is what TDB files I need to
replicate filesystems between the two servers. Below is a list of what the
files I

Difficulty converting from RH 7.3 to Debian Sarge
I am running debian sarge 2.4.27-3-686 and samba version 3.0.14a-Debian
. The previous machine was running rh 7.3 (valhalla) 2.4.20-29.7.progeny.11, samba version unknown. I have restored all shares and directories. Most of users can access everything, however our login script will not run. For those users that cannot log in re-joining them to the domain not only works but then the login

Printing in Wine 20050725
I have just reinstalled wine on my Debian Sid (unstable) system after several years without it, in order to run a handful of Windows applications: IE, Lotus Notes, ... I use CUPS to support printing under Linux, and several years ago had no real problems printing from Windows applications running under Wine. However, I am now unable to print from any of them using Wine release 20050725. When I

Distributing custom driver config in TDB files
Hi,
Is there a way to populate customized settings of the drivers (printing
related TDB files) from one Print Server to another?
Here is the background:
I am working on centralized driver distribution. Besides pushing all
the drivers from a central location to the edges, the administrator
should also be allowed to customize the drivers settings and the
distribution should send those

Cups and Samba Access Denied
I purchased the Samba 3.0 book and it has gotten me pretty far but I finally
had to go to the mailing list for this problem.
Here is the issue, I am running Debian (woody) with samba 3.0.1-2 and cupsys
1.1.14-5 I have also installed cupsys-bsd cupsys-client and smbclient
foomatic-bin and as2ps follwing this
http://excess.org/docs/linux_windows_printing.html advice. Samba is running
