tilde username
Hi
I use winbind with ADS security for authentication. If I write "ls -la
~username" in bash or ksh and press TAB or escape to resolve the
HOMEDIR the shell hangs until I cancel with Ctrl+C. After that I have
to restart winbind!
If I press enter after "ls -la ~username" it works. I use
samba3-winbind-3.0.28-35 on RHEL4U6 (32bit). Any idea?

force ntlm
Hi
We have a problem with the one way trusts between the DEV and PROD
domains (Windows 2003). Microsoft told me to use NTLM instead of
kerberos.
Is there a way to force samba to use NTLM (or NTLMv2) instead of kerberos?

Fwd: could not read attribute 'gidNumber' --> seems to work with ldapsearch
If I run a normal ldapsearch it gives me the gidnumber and uidnumber
attributes. It looks like the AD is set up properly.

SAMBA on AIX --> nsswitch.conf?
Hi
I am still trying to run SAMBA on AIX with "security = ads" and I have
a few questions:
- on AIX is no such file as /etc/nsswitch.conf --> Do I have to add
the configuration somewhere else?
- I allways get this "User xy is invalid on this system" if try to map
a share from Windows. What does this mean? Is the user invalid on the
Domain? on AIX? on SAMBA? Is the User

security = ads --> invalide user
Hello
I try to run SAMBA with security = ads on AIX 5.3 with SAMBA 3.0.23d.
"net ads join" was successful and the machine is now visible in the Domain
with the netbios name.
When I try to access the shares on the machine the log.smbd files says:

force user and read only
Hi
I need a share with read-only access for some developers (to read
logfiles). the logfiles are owned by the application user and group
and have 700 permissions. I have set up the share like this:
path = /applicationx/logs
read only = Yes
valid users = "MYDOMAIN+DEVELOPER1"
force user = applicationx
It does work very well, but somehow it does not look

groupmapping impossible?
Does someone know how to do this group mapping in samba? why does "net
groupmap x y" has no effect? If I map a domain group to a local group,
then the members of the domain group should be treated as members of
the local group, or not?

NT_STATUS_NO_LOGON_SERVERS with domain joined member samba server
Hello,
We had a strange thing happen today - we shut down our system (virtual machines) so that some work could be done in the server closet and everything was shut down gracefully but when everything was started back up I can no longer access my file server from windows. I get the following message in windows:
\\fs1 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network

Samba4 CIFS proxy: NT_STATUS_NO_LOGON_SERVERS
Hello,
I'm trying to use the cifs proxy vfs module in Samba4. I can join the
domain seemingly without problem. When trying to access the proxy
server (and hence its share) I get NT_STATUS_NO_LOGON_SERVERS.
My setup is as follows:
root@proxy# ./setup/provision --realm=<realm> --domain=<domain>
--adminpass=<adminpass> \

NT_STATUS_NO_LOGON_SERVERS errors sporadically occurring
Hi there
I have samba-3.0.27a rolled out over a large number of servers, and
every once in a while one of them will start failing to allow people to
connect, with winbind reporting NT_STATUS_NO_LOGON_SERVERS, and
ntlm_auth failing with "NT_STATUS_NO_LOGON_SERVERS: No logon servers".
The same problem occurred with earlier versions too.
I think I've tracked down the cause of the

krb5_auth: NT_STATUS_NO_LOGON_SERVERS for users from trusted AD domains in samba winbind > 4.2
Hi,
in our setup, we have a number of AD domains with an exisiting one-way trust between the local domain of the system (which I will call LOCALDOM in the following) and the domain containing the user accounts (which I will call TRUSTEDDOM in the following). The domain controllers run Windows Server 2012.
Beginning with samba 4.4 we have an issue with authentication through pam_winbind on the

I had to downgrade samba on a rh5.5 instance due to ntlm_auth not working properly: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?format=multiple&id=561325
Now, when I add the computer to the domain ('net ads join ?U Administrator') it seems to work, is visible on the AD interface, but the logs show an error:

REPOST: Winbind logins failing after upgrade from Samba3 to Samba4
Hello,
(I'm reposting this after my first attempt about 25 minutes ago has not come through to me. I am leaving out the looooooong debug log dump, in case the listserv didn't like the massive content, but it will be provided upon request.)
I have a RHEL 6.5 server that was configured to use Samba 3.6.9-167 to authenticate against a Windows 2008 R2 Active Directory domain. The
