smbd high cpu load
We have a Linux file server for a set of computer science and engineering labs where each lab contains machines running Mac OS X, Ubuntu Linux, or some incarnation of Windows. At times the these machines become almost unusable and I think I have narrowed the problem to smbd processes soaking up all the CPU on the server. Running 'top' on the server reveals a dozen or so entries like

High load smbd processes
Hi all, Our system has just recently begun experiencing smbd processes comsuming enormous amounts of cpu time. I am totally unsure of the cause of this. We are using samba version 2.0.0 (packaged for debian linux). seldon:~$ /usr/sbin/smbd -h Usage: /usr/sbin/smbd [-D] [-p port] [-d debuglevel] [-l log basename] [-s services file] Version 2.0.0 We have not recently upgraded the samba

more smbd CPU mystery
Well I have determined that everytime someone logs in/logs out of a windows box in our lab *ALL* of the files in "My Directory" are copied from/to the file server to the local client. Needless to say this is retarded and needs to stop. The local sys admin needs to perform some windows voodoo to redirect this directory. Still this brings the mystery as to why smbd would take up so much

Smbd using too much CPU
I recently got the problem that my smbd process takes up a lot of CPU (about 60%). It's running this high even if I don't access the server through my samba clients. I have tried restarting samba, rebooting the computer and I have been looking at several logs but I can't see what's wrong. It never seems to relax. I need to fix this as fast as possible because my CPU fan is running

3.0.8 and looong logout time
I've got two WinXP SP2 users. Roaming profiles. One of them takes about 25 seconds to log out unless she has made pretty drastic changes to her profile (My Documents, etc). My second user takes upwards of 3 minutes to log out, even if he has just logged in, not opened a thing or made changes, and then logged back out. Below is part of a strace as I don't know what I'm looking

Possible bug in samba-2.2.8a-1...
Hi, I found what seems to be a bug in smbd (and smbclient?) from samba-2.2.8a-1. Scenario is the following: All users have accounts in linux box "mate", with homes mounted via NFS from linux box "fserver". mate and fserver run samba-2.2.8a-1, mate ONLY validates passwords and has no shares; fserver in turn, ONLY shares [homes] and [netlogon], but has no users, so samba uses

Word 97 and permission problems
Question for Everyone, We are running 1.9.18p8 on hpux 10.20. This particular machine has a directory called docommon that is writable by anyone. The problem we are having is that whenever someone opens a file with word 97, then saves it, they own the file and the permissions are -rw-r--r--. Thus, no one else can open the file. How can we make the files keep the -rw-rw-rw setting? Please

Problem with Share Size
Hi all, I have a problem with samba : I can create files, but can't create directories. The server has many shares, on seperated disks. We consider two of them : one 2Tb share and one share with more than 7Tb. Samba configuration is good, and works on many other servers, and on this one except for the large share. Permissions are correctly setted up too. I can read/write files and

Errors for shares since 4.12.0
Thanks, I will give that a try. But I need the 'winbind separator = +'. We use some expensive commercial software (e.g. ANSYS, ABAQUS, ...), which uses shell scripts to start their software under linux. These scripts are not able to handle a backslash in the user name. The only solution was to switch to a "+" character. We reported these issues two years ago. Regards,

What is bootstrap.sh for ? Possible bug in 11.3.0 ?
Hi, Before trying to script res-memcached installation (see res_memcached<https://github.com/drivefast/asterisk-res_memcached>), I banged into this on a fresh 11.3.0 setup: 1. When run for the first time bootstrap.sh displays a non-blocking error. # sh -x bootstrap.sh + uname -sr + MY_AC_VER= + MY_AM_VER= + AUTOCONF_VERSION=2.60 + AUTOMAKE_VERSION=1.9 + export AUTOCONF_VERSION + export

Linux, rsync files excluding open/busy files
Hi, I read many posts about this, faq, googled, and finally got to write here. The scenario/question is this: I want to transfer files from Server B -> Server C the problem is that, files that are to be transfered may be open/busy, meaing they are "not still complete, " or they are open while rsync is run. Is there a way to automatically handle these open files using rsync , rsync

Samba slowness serving SAN-based GFS2 filesystems
Ok, I'm experiencing slowness serving SAN-based GFS2 filesystems (of a specific SAN configuration). Here's my layout: I have a server cluster. OS= RHEL 5.4 (both nodes...) kernel= 2.6.18-194.11.3.el5 Samba= samba-3.0.33-3.14.el5 *On this cluster are 6 GFS2 Clustered filesystems. *4 of these volumes belong to one huge LUN (1.8 TB), spanning 8 disks. The other 2 remaining volumes are 1

[LLVMdev] GSoC project questions.
I always liked the sound of 'flang' :) I'm curious, what benefits would we see from a "native" Fortran compiler for LLVM versus DragonEgg, assuming we'd still need the gfortran standard library anyway (in the short-medium term)? Or put another way, is there Fortran code out there we optimize poorly *because* of using DragonEgg? I haven't used DragonEgg much, so if
