Using idmap_rid backend, cannot browse home directory from XP
Samba version is 3.0.10 on Gentoo linux. I am trying
to use idmap_rid backend in a Windows AD environment,
the Linux PC acting only as a domain member. I am
using idmap_rid because I need UID/GID predictability.
I can log in to console correctly, and it shows the
right user and the "Domain Users" as the group.
When I use default winbind TDB, I can browse the home
directory from an XP

winbind authentication fails with STATUS_BUFFER_OVERFLOW
Using samba-3.0.10-1.4E.2 as supplied by RedHat Enterprise 4. Using
security=ADS mode, and using winbind and pam_winbind to authenticate.
I was able to sucessfully join the domain, and can enumerate users and
groups.
Whenever I try to authenticate, it always fails with the status
STATUS_BUFFER_OVERFLOW.

Winbind 3.2.3 error with trusted domains
With Samba on Debian Lenny joined to a Server 2003 Native domain that has two incoming non-transitive trusts (users in my domain can authenticate to the foreign domains, but their users cannot authenticate to us) winbind is taking a very long time to authenticate or list users the first time it is used after starting. Winbind blocks for four to five minutes, and anything that touches winbind will

winbind error - Conversion error: Illegal multibyte sequence(æ~S^\^H)
Hi there
I hope that you understand by English. I'm a Rooky and don't know Samba very well. I installed the newest version 3.0.10 on my SuSE Linux 7.3 machine and it works very well. I make User- and Passwort-Requests with Samba (winbind) for the Squid-Proxy. Now always work's well but I get the following error message from log.winbind:

Latest debian (testing) version crashed strangely
Hi there,
First post to this list - apologies if there's a more appropriate
place for discussion of debian specific builds, but this looks like
a generic-enough bug.
Samba "smbd version 3.0.0beta2-1 for Debian" running on 2.4.21 linux
kernel on Athlon machine. WinXpPro client machine opening a mapped
drive from samba share in a "Add attachment" dialog in Mozilla 1.4.

winbind group problem
My Samba server is a domain member to a Win2k ADS domain. I have a domain
group where some members of the group can access a particular share, while
others cannot. If the user tries to login from a different system, the
problem still exists. Additionally, the user can log into other shares. I
have verified this with two different groups. It seems like the system
cannot identify the

Samba 3.0.2a problems on Solaris 8
Tried to upgrade our Samba 2.2.8a domain controller (Solaris 8) to Samba
3.0.2a. Compiled using gcc 3.3.2, linked to libiconv-1.8, popt-1.7 and
cups-1.1.20.
I shut down the Samba 2.2.8a. Removed everything in var/locks. Did a
"make install" to install 3.0.2a, then restarted Samba. My smb.conf is
basically the same as 2.2.8a with "domain admin group" removed.
When I stared

Illegal multibyte sequence error in pdbedit output
dear list,
in the output of pdbedit -L -v heupink I'm getting these errors:

Any ideas where to look..? Are these serieus errors..? (it looks as if the errors occur BEFORE the actual ldap connection is opened, so I guess they're not ldap related...)
My samba is 3.0.14a, and system is sles9

idmap_sid_to_uid is not get called?
Hi
I have the following question:
Joining Win200x as ADS/DOMAIN, I see no problems for windows users to
get authenticated even if they don't have local accounts.
However, with the same samba (3.06) joining NT4 SP6 domain I see that
only users that also have entry in /etc/passwd are been authenticated.
I followed winbindd traces and saw that there is no problem

winbind flaky authentication..
I've got weird things happening with winbind authentication - sometimes
it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Sometimes it works for one username, and not for the other, sometimes it
works for both, sometimes neither...
I'm a departmental admin trying to authenticate against our central
windows domain - so I've no control of the windows side. The client
machine is a fresh redhat

Network_access_denied and no group in domain
Was: RE: [Samba] samba 3.0 and freebsd 5.1
Hi Aaron,
I deinstalled the 3.0.1 port and got the source tarball for 3.0.2a and
installed from there. I also swapped out 3.0.1 for 3.0.2 on the domain
controller when I discovered the second problem.
I can now use smbclient to log into a file share on the member server,
giving an " smb: \> " prompt but doing ls gives an error of:

Hi all,
I'm trying to share a directory that contains files with non-ASCII
characters (actually, hungarian chars, iso8859-2 or utf8 encoding, I'm not
sure - the encoding of ext2) in their name. When I mount the share and try
to list the contents of the directory, smbd crashes.

Winbind + Win2003 ADS + Trusted Domain Issue
Hello all,
I am having an issue that I need help with and have been searching the
web high and low for a solution. It involvs using winbind to
authenticate Linux systems against a 2003 Active Directiry domain with a
one-way trust. Here is the lay out.
Domain "ABC" is the resource domain where the servers are located. Domain
"XYZ" is the domain that the primary user accounts

Problems printing with samba 3.5.2
Ok, I finally deployed samba 3.5.2 (upgrading from 3.0.11) on the real server after testing for a while in virtualbox.
There's a strange problem with printing: sometimes an application gives an error printing (of course the error message is meaningless, this is windows after all) and/or the job gets lost in transit.
After that stopping and restarting the local print spool service solves the
