Bad passwords from Vampire / NT migration
I just did a clean install of Fedora 9 onto a Pentium 4 machine. It is actually running SELinux enforcing, but I haven't found any errors related to that so far. It is running Samba 3.2.3-0.20. I am trying to migrate a Windows NT 4.0 domain with about 30 users and 30 computers onto a pure Samba setup, using Samba as the PDC and tdbsam. I have read the HOWTO guide extensively, and

Samba 3.0: Cannot alter user settings with pdbedit
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 After a failed migrate from NT4 to Samba 3.0 using the rpc vampire method I decided I'd do it manually with 'net rpc samdump'. Well it sort of worked, except I can't edit any of the users settings, it might just be me, but it should modify the profile to that, just as a test but it doesn't. I'd actually like to get rid of the

Resetting passwords using pdbedit?
[Environment: Samba 3.0.2a with "passdb backend = tdbsam" ] I want to be able to reset user passwords from the command line on the Unix server, without knowledge of the existing password. If I was using an smbpasswd file, I could call the "smbpasswd" command and it would edit the file. But with a backend, that's not available to me. The "pdbedit" command will

Samba 2.2.6pre2 doesn't try to lookup for user user name by SID + pdbedit
I have instaled samba 2.2.6pre2 (due problems with printr drivers download in 2.2.5) and I have also tried to install it using ldapsam backend. It seems be working, but there are two problems: - if I try to display directory ACL (file - properties - security) I show only the user name, group name and others field are shown only as SIDs. There is no hit to LDAP (OK, groups seems be supported

Modifying unix username with pdbedit
I am migrating from an NT4 PDC to Samba 3.025a. I used the "net rpc vampire" command to transfer the user and machine accounts. Almost all accounts have a lower case Unix user name, except for the administator account. Unix is case sensitive, Windows doesn't seem to care. # pdbedit -v administrator Unix username: Administrator NT username: Administrator I was

NT domain migration to LDAP/SAMBA
Hi, I'm attempting to migrate an NT4 domain to Samba3, and getting quite frustrated with stuff that seems not to work as advertised. I'd appreciate any help. I've set up an OpenLDAP server, and Samba 3, configured it as a BDC, and tried running "net rpc vampire". This all works, and Samba does the appropriate stuff to try and populate the LDAP database. The scripts I've

pdbedit and root SID/RID
Hi I've been reading every documentation available for creating smb domain groups and users, mapping domain groups and users... still learning... Every document I read states that root should be modified to RID 500, by running ' pdbedit -U `net getlocalsid | cut -d ":" -f2 | tr -d ' '`-500 -u root -r', but I always get root to RID 1000 and its domain group RID

SAMBA4: pdbedit not changing SID
Since I don't seem to be having any luck with the classicupgrade, I decided to try starting from scratch and then adding users. I ran the command: /usr/local/samba/bin/samba-tool domain provision --realm=<my realm> \ --domain=<mydomain> --adminpass 'mypass' --server-role=dc \ --dns-backend=BIND9_DLZ Then I tried both adding and changing users. In neither case can I

Pre-populating winbind idmap doesn't work.
Greetings, (re-phrased posting) In order to get CIFS and NFS interoperability in an EMC Celerra environment I'm trying to pre-populate a Samba winbindd idmap database (/var/lib/samba/winbindd_idmap.tdb) with some fixed entries. My thought was that a "net idmap restore" from a manually generated file should match the output from a subsequent "net idmap dump". But it does

Samba, OpenLDAP, numeric logins and vampire
Hi All, I have a query regarding the interaction between Samba, LDAP and vampire. The situation is as follows. I have five NT4 servers serving 1000 users 700 of which have 4-digit numeric logins. I have a Samba PDC that I'd like to transfer all the accounts and data to, Vampire being the obvious method. I can't transfer the logins to POSIX accounts due to the numeric uid/gid system

Samba 3.0 and LDAP as a PDC
Hello all, I hope this is an easy one, I've read all the howtos but I'm still very hazy on how to do this. What I want to do is replace my NT4 PDC with a Samba 3.0 PDC with an LDAP backend. I've got my OpenLDAP up and running with the basic People, Computers and Groups ou's. I've put the builtin NT groups in too. I have Samba 3.0 functioning as a BDC The trouble is

Adding machine account to LDAP with pdbedit fails
Hello everyone, I am having a problem adding a machine account with pdbedit. My setup is the latest samba (3.0.21b) compiled from source on Solaris 10, SUN's latest JES' Directory Server. I am in a beginning stage of setting up this environment, so I may not have done something right. I was following the Samba PDC LDAP howto by Ignacio Coupeau

vampire: account mapping strangeness
I am testing samba 3.0's net rpc vampire tool and am getting strange results... after I import the account info, the samba usernames seem to be mapping to hardcoded unix uid #'s instead of account names. For example: # pdbedit -u jah000 idmap uid range missing or invalid idmap will be unable to map foreign SIDs idmap gid range missing or invalid idmap will be unable to map foreign SIDs
