Samba + Vista SP1 usernames with @ not working
Hi
I was wondering if anyone came across an issue with Vista with SP1 and
usernames that have @ in their usernames (example username@domain.com).
The login to samba network stopped working once i have installed SP1.
The message I get is:
The local Session Manager service failed to logon
The data area passed to a system call is too small

Samba and LDAP
After perusing the Samba 3.x docs and purchasing Terpstra's and Vernooij's
excellent Samba-3 Howto, I am still unclear on LDAP authentication. Not a
Windows admin so please bear with me.
1) Regarding the Samba schema, is there a tool to extract the Windows client
information (sid, etc.) for populating an LDIF?

BDC and Roaming Profiles
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hello,
I was wondering if it is possible to enable roaming profiles on the BDC.
I have consulted the samba.org documentation on roaming profiles and
couldn't find the solution for my setup:

samba pdc integrated with master ldap + replica to server2
users home shares and profiles are stored here in /home/samba/ and
shared using [homes].

web interface to samba file sharing
Hello everyone!
I was just wondering if there is such tool that will allow samba file
sharing to be done via web interface?
So instead of making a remote samba connection to a server on the
internet, the person just goes to the server's web page, logs in to
samba share and is allowed to upload/download files.
Any help or suggestions are welcome )

SAMBA + LDAP: can login to domain
Hello,
I've tried to integrate samba 3.0.1 and LDAP 2.1.23 using the guide
provided from http://www.hilinski.net/samba/. While the ldap+samba user
authentication seems to work fine, I can't join the Domain from a
Windows 2000 Client. The Domain is found and Name/Password Credentials
are asked. I enter root and password and I get an error:
Login Failure: Unknow username or bad

Username Case Sensitivity vs. Lower Casing
Hi there
The Release Notes for Samba 3.0.8 from Nov 7, 2004 stated the following:
===========================
Change in Winbindd Behavior
===========================
All usernames returned by winbindd are now converted to lower
case for better consistency. This means any winbind installation
relying on the winbind username will need to rename existing
directories and/or files based on the

SELinux and daemons - clever way to change default locations?
I'm sure you've seen this before:
You need to slightly tweak the default installation of a major daemon -
let's say you're running a big MySQL database and you need to put it on
a different filesystem, mounted (for example) as /db
So you move /var/lib/mysql to /db/mysql (and preserve all the file
attributes, including SELinux), change /etc/my.cnf accordingly, start
mysqld -

the Postfix packages are way too old
If you deliver more than a few emails to the outside world, especially
if a good portion of those go to Yahoo, you may want to read this message:

Actually, read the whole thread, it's interesting and the discussion
still continues:

H323 to SIP - One way voice
Hello all,
I want to use asterisk as protocol converter, H323 to SIP. I am using
Asterisk 1.2.14 with chan_h323 and the free version of g729.
When calling from SIP to H323 everything is fine. But when calling from H323
to SIP, the phone using SIP doesn't hear the other party.
The phones and Asterisk are in the same subnet and the firewall of the
Asterisk box is off. Please advice.
Thank you,

Vista SP1, Server 2008 joining NT4/Samba Domain
Hello!
It seems, that Vista SP1 and Server 2008 cannot join an NT4/Samba-domain.
Vista once could join before SP1, if one did some modifications to the
system (LAN Manager authentication level, Encryption of secure channel).
But these workarounds do not seem to work with SP1 anymore.
Microsoft points out that joining NT4-domains with Vista SP1 and Server
2008 is not supported/tested

I have been trying for a while now to enable set the parameter ?ldapsam:trusted? to ?yes? in smb.conf but as soon as I enable it, users cannot access shares anymore. I am trying to enable this because the users are member of a lot of groups and I want to take the stress off the ldap server. XP + SP2 + DFS + netbios alias = not working
Hi all,
I'm using Samba 3.0.6 (on IRIX 6.5).
This is just a 'let you know what I've discovered' message really.
I've just installed upgrade a laptop here to SP2 of Windows XP. It then
started failing to make network connections.
After much fiddling about, I tracked it down to DFS shares. This PC can
now connect to the DFS root OKay, but doesn't recognise the entries
