rsync 3.0.6 hangs over SSH
Running client and server on Ubuntu 9.10. Version 3.0.6
on both sides. After the SSH connects, both rsyncs are
started, but before it starting scanning for files, it
just hangs. strace says they are both waiting on select()
(I can attach strace files if necessary).
This setup used to work, but had not worked for some time.
I just now have had the time to investigate.
Please let me know what I

One user can't login on PDC without a network connection
Hi,
Summary
In my testlab I have a Samba pdc setup. All is running fine except for
1 problem. I have a user (B) that cannot login without a network
connection, the error message is: "there are currently no logon
servers available to service the logon request". When I plug in the
network cable I can login again. When I do a network-less login as
another user (A) on the same machine I can

Domain Logon Credential Caching
Folks,
This posting is made so that others who search for infromation on how to
configure Samba for username and password caching will find it.
Samba does not control client-side password caching.
Caching of domain logon credentials is a client-side activity. There are
registry settings on the Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP Profesional
clients that control logon credential caching.

Users not able to change password
Hi list,
My brand new samba network is working pretty good, ironing out some
glitches.
Win XP users cannot change their password.
I use SaMBa as a domain-controller with an LDAP backend.
A stripped down version of the config is below.
I set minimum password length to 8, trying to change the password to a 7
char long gives me the messages that the password does not meet
requirements. So that

XP clients cannot find Samba
Hello,
I've set up Samba 3.0.22 on an Ubuntu box for testing purposes. Below
is my smb.conf file. The Samba server, ubuntu, is on the other side
of a Linksys WRTP54G router, serving NAT to my Windows XP clients on
the inside. I've opened port 139 on the router, set up NetBEUI,
placed entries in the clients' hosts & lmhosts files. For some
reason, the clients can logon to

Offline logon from Winxp/2000 Client doesn't work
Hello,
I've installed samba 3.0.24 recently and since then I cannot login on my
Windowsclients if they are disconnected. If I have a connection
everything is fine. I'm at a loss what else to do. The only hints for
offline logons I've found all refer to the use of samba with ADS. I have
only one samba server in my network(no winbind). The clients are
unchanged to my prior

Samba as domain member to another samba PDC
Hello,
we have a somewhat unusual setup:
- currently, Windows 2000 workstations in a NT4-Style domain with a
samba 3 server as PDC. User account data for both UNIX and Samba is kept
in LDAP.
- now, several workstations should be migrated to Ubuntu, using the same
LDAP directory (and NFS homes) for User account data. Users need to be
able to share files with windows workstations, using samba.

Shares stopped working for groups
Hi,
I have a ClearOS 7.8 system which is running
samba-4.10.4-11.el7_8.x86_64, and it upgraded to this just over a week
ago (probably not relevant). A couple of days ago all the group shares
failed. I discovered that if I switched them to the built-in group
"allusers" the share worked fine. It fails for any user-defined group
but it used to work. Samba is running as a PDC and the

machine add error to samba PDC
Hi All,
I have setup my samba as a PDC and testparm gives me the right
result, but when I am trying to add my XP client to SAMBA I receive an
error as "Logon failure: bad username or password" or "Username could
not be found". I am using root as the domain administrator and have
added root account using smbpasswd and can see it using pdbedit -Lv. I
can logon successfully

clarify issues on joining Samba PDC, machines, RIDs,
I'm running into issues trying to configure a server to be a Samba PDC in
a small network that contains only Win2k/XP workstations. This will be
going into an environment where there are no Windows server. There is a
pre-existing Samba server that will be replaced, but it'll be easier to
recreate user accounts than attempt migration (there were no machine
accounts).

Samba3-beta1 as a PDC and using tdbsam as passdb backend it takes the home-directory info from /etc/passwd
I didn't get any answers so I try again:
I am using tdbsam as passdb backand.
I have added root user with pdbedit.
The machine trust account was added on the fly.
I have added the user with pdbedit.
I have created the user in /etc/passwd.
When the user logs in from a W2k and mounts the home-directory I noticed
that Samba didn't take the home-directory information from tdbsam, it

Hi *,

login/first access of a share from a WinXPpro client to a samba 3.0.4 PDC

attached via USB cable. I can send print job to this printer from the Linux box and it works fine. I use CUPS system for printing. I have another computer

files and printer that is attached to this Linux box. Therefore, I
