GFS + quotas
I have 2 machines in a cluster using GFS, that many client mount up via
nfs. We use quotas extensively here, is there a way from a client
machine to check a users quota? Standard quota command on client
machines do not work like they do when checking a non-gfs nfs mounted
file system. The quotas do work however, when a user exceeds quota and
tries to write a file, it tell them that quota has

Laptop turns off after lid closed Centos6
Folks
I have a laptop which i am using temporarily as a test server. It is
permanently plugged in. It is running Centos 6, command line
only. In the past, I could close the lid, thereby turning off the
display, but not turning off the machine. It remained running indefinitely.
A recent update (this past week) changed that behavior. Now, when I
close the lid, the laptop turns itself off

glmulti runs indefinitely when using genetic algorithm with lme4
Dear List,
I'm using glmulti for model averaging in R. There are ~10 variables in my
model, making exhaustive screening impractical - I therefore need to use
the genetic algorithm (GA) (call: method = "g").
I need to include random effects so I'm using glmulti as a wrapper for
lme4. Methods for doing this are available here

can't auth against more then 1 domain
I have 2 samba servers. One with centos5+samba 3.033 that has been in
service for a few years now. I have installed a centos6+samba 3.6.9. I
followed the how-to I did with the first one, copied over the krb5.conf
and smb.conf from the working server and all seemed to go well. It is a
member server of a window AD. We have 2 DC's that are part of the same
forest: SEAS and SEAS-S. I

broken GFS
This is the 2nd time this has happened to me. There was a kernel
release over the weekend to .67.0.15, yet, they did not release the
updated GFS to go along with it, so when the machine rebooted, there was
no gfs file system in the new running kernel which in turn wreaked havoc
on my cluster. I truly wish they would not do that :). I guess I shall
have to not allow automatic yum updates from

Generating a long, unique "ticket" number.
Hello --
I would like to setup a system where a user can generate a "ticket".
This ticket will be stored indefinitely. The ticket will be sent to
someone who does not have an account on the system and therefore, I
would like to ensure some level of security in that ticket number.
Basically, the other user would receive an email like:

limiting authentication duration
Question 1: Is there a way to keep an authentication to a Samba share from
lasting indefinitely?
I am implementing a Linux file server for a network of machines all running
Windows 98 SE. (Redhat 9, Samba 2.2.7a, share-level security.) Once a
user provides a valid password and connects to a Samba share, Samba allows
that client machine to access that share indefinitely.
In our office each

Helping CentOS automatically
...If you like the majority of us as I am...there is something we can do
for the centos scene that really doesn't cost anything.
When you download the distro...just let bittorrent seed indefinitely.
By doing this you are contributing to centos as a whole.
...go figure...I'm actually giving the centos cause 17-18 KB/s and the
beauty...I don't even miss it!
My boxes run 24/7 anyway so

CTR mode
OpenSSH uses its own CTR mode implementation, correct? ?I seem to recall some discussion about why it hasn't/won't switch over to using OpenSSL's implementation, but I can't find the thread anymore.
So... why doesn't OpenSSH use OpenSSL's CTR mode implementation?
Thanks.

ubuntu 11.10, system V runlevel compatability
I''m having a problem with the boot sequence hanging indefinitely at "stopping system V runlevel compatibility". Here are the steps I took to get to this point:
1) installed a single boot, server version of ubuntu 11.10 (intended to be dom0)
2) apt-get install xen-hypervisor-4.1-amd64 xen-utils-4.1 xenwatch xen-tools xen-utils-common xenstore-utils
3) updated grub as follows:

Permissions Issue
Hello group, this issue is driving me crazy, there just has to be a
simple way to do this that I am missing! I have a share, SOP. The file
system maps to /dir/dir/sop. If I have a set of users that need write
access to this directory, but only want to allow another set of users
read only access, how can I accomplish this? From the man pages, it
looks like I can set the share to read only, and

[R-SIG-Mac] How to interrupt an R process that hangs
+1--this is the single most-annoying issue with R that I know of.
My usual solution, after accomplishing nothing as R spins idly for a couple
hours, is to kill the process and lose any un-saved work. save.history() is
my friend, but is a big delay when you work with big data sets as I do, so I
don't run it after every command.
I have cc'd r-help here, however, because I experience this

Opinions about timeout
I'm increasingly getting to be of the opinion that the current timeout
behaviour of the menu system is ridiculous. I did it this way because
someone on this list had expressed concern that serial port glitches
would trigger a character which then would cause the thing to sit
indefinitely. Well, first of all, such an automatic system would hardly
use the menu system, and second of all, I

Issues Connecting to Remote Host Through SSH
Hello,
I've been unable to connect to a remote host from within my network using
the following argument.
virsh/virt-manager -c qemu+ssh://user@host:port/system
I've tried libssh & libssh2 as well. Using ssh just prompts me for the host
password indefinitely. When using libssh2 the connection is rejected.
The host computer is using a custom ssh port which I've added to the above
