Users can create, but not delete files.
I have an ubuntu 8.10 server that is authenticating against active
directory (Win2k3) and acting as a fileserver. I used likewise open
to setup the AD authentication. If a user creates a file in a
directory that he doesn't own, he can modify the contents of the file,
but not delete or rename it. The group permissions should allow the
user to do this. If the user owns the directory,

smbcontrol xxxx reload-config doesn't work and other details samba 3.2
Hi Samba team.
I installed on a new server samba 3.2.0.
And all work fine, except the reload-config command and other things.
For resolve some missed-configuration, I modify the smb.conf and call
smbcontrol <smbd_pid> reload-config, but it's not work.
Ex :
I added mdfs root = yes (same as samba 3.0.x), after I called smbcontrol
xxxx reload-config

Not sure what's going on here, but it's got to be a permissions thing it

When I attempt to load drivers with Windows XP Pro (32bit), everything

The same cannot be said for Windows 7. I cannot correctly load drivers

samba-3.4.7 & access to share from win7
Hello list,
I have tried rather much (forums, google) and trying this as the last option. The problem is that one is not able to access "group" samba shares from windows 7 machines, everything ok from win-ts-2003 & xp machines. Every user belongs to his primary group defined in samba+openldap pdc. If they want to access the share named according to their primary group (with

Write/Modify issues
I'm having problems with one share. It's mounting a directory on an
isilon over NFS. I've re-created the setup on the same machine where
the data is and that works fine, it's just the existing share gives
trouble.
I can create a file, but not rename and sometimes not delete. Also
saving file from say photoshop result in two empty files being created
one with the proper filename

share is read-only since 3.0.3 - "access is denied"
Hi,
I've a samba-3.0.2a running perfectly on redhat-8.
Filesystem is EXT3 with ACL support.
I can't upgrade the PDC to 3.0.3 or 3.0.4, because shares are only
read-only.
In 3.0.3 only home share and temp share are writable.
All other shares are in read-only mode. Users can see the files/directories,
but can't save anything or create new items.
When trying to create a new item -

Cannot rename directory - Samba acting two different ways on identical systems
Ubuntu Samba server running Version 3.4.0
Most windows and OS X clients connect with no issues. Permissions are working correctly on shares and umask settings are working on Window 7, OS X, and XP.
The annoying mystery here is that these little bugs are annoying users and taking up precious time... Most recently, Mac1 (OS X 10.6.5 smb Version 3.0.28a-apple) is able to change a directory's

smb mount as root, access as non-root. Changed behaviour between samba 3.0.x and 3.4.x?
Hi List,
I have an appliance ("the client") which mounts a CIFS share from a
Samba server - the Samba server usually runs on an Ubuntu system.
Within the client, the root user executes a mount command like this:
mount.cifs \\UBUNTUSERVER\archive /tmp/Default \
-o noserverino,user='someuser',pass='somepassword',uid='50',gid='7'
That uid/gid pair

Error with ACLs and follow symlinks=no
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
We had 3.0.2a which worked fine. If you tried to open a file that the
ACLs wouldn't let you, you'd get access denied. We had follow
symlinks=no in smb.conf
Now with 3.0.8, and no other changes, we get a message about "The file
has moved or otherwise gone away," instead of access denied.
And we get this in the log file:

Strange msdfs connection problem
Hello,
we have a Samba 3.2.8 msdfs root server. From time to time the connection from
a Windows 2003 SP2 system will fail with the message that the server name
could not be found. On Windows XP it seems to work.
On Windows we open the folder user1/folder/subfolder with the explorer. In the
failure log I can't see anything about the subfolder.
If I compare the samba log (debug level 10)

Lots of "smbd/vfs.c:reduce_name(985)" in log.smbd
Hi.
I subscripted just now to the mailing list, but I've been using a Samba file
server (PDC) on Debian for about 2.5 years now. Users are almost all WinXP
SP3.
No users are complaining but since I changed everything to one share with
group permission on underlying directories I see a lot of errors in
log.smbd. Anyone knows what the log message exactly means?
I guess it has something to

Hi there,
I have a problem I can not solve myself.
I have samba 3.0.28 installed on a Ubuntu 8.0.4 server.

handled by nis (Windows 2008 SFU / NIS Server).
My Samba config:

Problem with listing a share
Hi,
I have a strange problem listing a share with, e.g.

I have a samba-client-3.5.4-68.el6_0.2.x86_64 on a Scientific Linux 6

error and others start having access again.

Changing Windows passwords
Hi all,
Is there a way to use the "encrypt passwords" and the "passwd chat" programs
simultaneously? smb.conf(5) doesn't mention anything about them being
mutually exclusive, yet when I run testparm on the smb.conf file, I get:
ERROR: the 'passwd chat' script [...] expects to use the old
plaintext password via the %o substitution. With encrypted
