password server problem
We are using samba with a NT4.0 Primary Domain Controller as a samba password server. Logon validation on the primary domain controller works fine, the NT machine validates the user password. BUT: On the NT PDC the event log shows numerous entries saying: Unknown user or wrong password Did anybody experience this too ???? Rainer von Bongartz /D/I/L/ rainer.von-bongartz@dil.de

Hi Andrew, thanks for addressing all my points. This is rather helpful. -<| Quoting Andrew Bartlett <abartlet at samba.org>, on Friday, 2018-09-21 08:23:26 AM |>- > On Fri, 2018-09-21 at 11:29 +0200, Philipp Gesang via samba wrote: > > how would I go about dumping tdb files in a “neutral” format, > > preferably JSON? > > > > The goal is to have a domain

Applying security updates
Hi A security update for samba 3.0.1 - 3.0.22 was posted on samba.org on the 10th July. Does anyone know how to apply to update? Everytime I click on the download link I just get the following text Index: source/smbd/service.c =================================================================== --- source/smbd/service.c (revision 16676) +++ source/smbd/service.c

What is so bad about primaryGroupID=513?
I try to set up Samba 2.2.4 / LDAP as a PDC and it almost works. The only thing I don't understand is why a domain user can't have a primaryGroupID of 513 (which looks like it should be a safe default). But if I set it, login is denied with an error C0000078 on the client, and something like [2002/06/03 10:32:28, 3] smbd/sec_ctx.c:set_sec_ctx(314) setting sec ctx (65534, 65534) -

Howto auth against an NT domain I don't control?
I did this a few years ago (RHEL 4.0 -- samba 3.0.10) and had a nice working setup... until the drive developed bad sectors and wouldn't boot. Now I'm starting with a fresh OS (ArchLinux -- samba 3.0.31) and trying to recreate what I had working before. My previous setup (which worked nicely): RHEL 4.0 running samba 3.0.10 security = server password server = <DC's IP>

SMB Signing with "map to guest = " options
Hi, I'm using samba-4.7.x I have some confusions over "map to guest=" options with setting SMB Signing 1. Set "*Server signing =auto*", "*map to guest=bad uid*" and set "client signing in windows 2k12 server group policy" to "Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (Always)” = *Disable*" SMB_Server is joined to Windows 2k12

sambaDomainName=HOST i.s.o. ...=DOMAIN
Hello, I'm trying to setup a standalone samba server named "alta" in a workgroup named "TDOM". So I put workgroup = TDOM in the 'smb.conf' file. The netbios name of the machine defaults to 'ALTA' so no netbios name paramater is needed (I assume). I've put the user and group accounts in an ldapsam backend and I also created a

Sending signals to current R process from R running under MS Windows (c.f. Esc)
I am using RGtk2 for a simple GUI (rattle). I start rattle from the RGui and I remain able to interact with the RGui while rattle runs. Under MS/Windows, when rattle has initiated some other underlying R command the rattle GUI remains responsive (unlike under GNU/Linux where it is not responsive until the underlying command completes). I can interrupt the running command with a press of the Esc

Putty X11 problem
I use WinSCP to connect to remote server with wine. I use Putty as a terminal, but it seems, I cannot use X11 tunneling to run graphical applicatoins from this remote server, although X11 is enabled in Putty. Is there a solution for that?

3.0.20 -> 3.0.23 SID/group error?? Won't connect.
Gerry, all: HELP! On mandriva, I compiled samba from source and got it running, but I cannot connect from windows. (see my post from earlier "[Samba] Compiling and Configuring Samba for Mandrival") I think this relates to the group/SID changes discussed in the release notes. However, I'm not smart enough to figure it out. The tarball compiled and installed fine. It

Need stronger SRTP ciphers (256 bit)
Hi folks, At least several endpoints (soft phone and desk phones) are supporting various 256 bit ciphers for SRTP these days. I *believe* libsrtp has been updated to allow this, and that only the code in Asterisk has not been been updated to allow these stronger ciphers. Would anyone with the know-how be willing/able to submit a patch ? Thank you, Kevin Long

Portforwarding using the control master.
Hi all, currently I am considering writing a patch for OpenSSH that will allow portforwarding using the control_master unix domain socket. The idea is to introduce an extra SSHMUX command, SSHMUX_COMMAND_SOCKS, which will then pass control to the normal socks functions used for dynamic forwarding. The main reason for me to write this patch are: - some more control over who gets to connect to

General CentOS 5.1 (or Gnome) instability?
I've been a big fan of CentOS for a while, and didn't have many issues with CentOS 4.X over the past few years. However, since moving to CentOS 5.1 a few weeks ago, I have received more problem reports from my users than in the last year and a half on CentOS 4.X. I've previously reported the problem with gnome-terminal crashing (and since there is a single gnome-terminal
