FreeNAS
As you all know, I''m a confirmed Linux supporter. But I must mention a
project that I''ve recently become acquainted with: FreeNAS
(http://freenas.org).
This is a really cool product:
- It is FreeBSD based. The current stable version is built on FreeBSD 7.3.
- FreeNAS allows you to quickly build an NAS solution that supports
SMB/CIFS, AFP (Seamlessly supports Timemachine on OS X

FreeNAS/Samba Group Permissions with LDAP
I'm not sure if this is an LDAP issue, a Samba issue, a BSD issue or a
FreeNAS issue...
I'm working at migrating a large block of file shares from an aging
CentOS/Samba 3.0.9 server to a FreeNAS (8.0.2) server. (The FreeNAS box is
running FreeBSD 8.2-RELEASE-p3 and Samba 3.5.11.) I will eventually be
migrating the entire domain and user base off of that server, but for the
time being, I

Need a little help with Samba 3.5.5 on FreeNAS 7.2.5543
Good afternoon all. I have an odd problem that has me stumped and I'm hoping
someone here may be able to help. Recently I switched from a Gentoo Linux
based OS to FreeNAS. The version of Samba running on FreeNAS is 3.5.5 (and
was the same under Linux). I mainly use my FreeNAS/Samba box to share MP3
files to an Audiotron. One of the files is the Turtle Beach radio file,
radio_tr.txt. When I was

It seems that each revisions of xen unstable are getting slower and slower.
Recently I can boot freenas it stops at option screen. I have to press 1

when I connected to it was very sluggish I had rebooted it and now seems
normal.
I tested virtual hard

Trying to update the official docs for nut on FreeNAS - help needed to ensure it's written correctly
This is slightly off-topic, I guess, but I'm not sure who better to ask for
help.
I'm active within the FreeNAS community and involved in their (FreeBSD
based) documentation work. There is a long standing bug ticket - years old
now - to update their "network ups tools" docs page, to cover Ethernet
attached UPS that use nut for the link. Currently the docs mainly describes

UPS on Freenas
Dear Sir or Ma'am,
I have set-up a very functional NAS in my home using Freenas 0.7.2.5543. I had problems when losing power to the NAS. When I'd power it back on, my Raid 5 array and other disks would say that it was not properly dismounted, until I erased the disks, reformatted and remounted. The problem would then go away. I have since put an UPS between my NAS and the power to

raidz pool metadata corrupted nexanta-core->freenas 0.7->nexanta-core
I made a bad judgment and now my raidz pool is corrupted. I have a
raidz pool running on Opensolaris b85. I wanted to try out freenas 0.7
and tried to add my pool to freenas.
After adding the zfs disk,
vdev and pool. I decided to back out and went back to opensolaris. Now
my raidz pool will not mount and got the following errors. Hope someone
expert can help me recover from this error.

Samba 4 KVNO mismatch - Failure to join AD domain (Windows & Freenas)
Hello all,
I've run into the issue described here:
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/2010-September/073075.html
To sum it up, I installed samba4 from git on a debian wheezy system.
Initially, I was able to join Windows 7 clients to the AD controller.
However, trying to get freenas 8 to join has been failing. In the end,
trying to get it to work I changed administrator's

Freenas domU network performance issue
Hi guys,
I''m running a freenas domU (FreeBSD 8.3 based, ZFS v28, 2 vcpus mapped to
the same HT capable core) to serve storage for all purpose including other
domUs running on the same host. I did some study to understand how well it
works and the result is kind of confusing.
In summary, the network performance between domains on the same host is
worse than expected. And NFS service to
