Changing ACLs dont work, clicking 'apply' restores old ACL
Hello! I'm building a samba fileserver that would share the same files for both linux and UNIX clients and ACLs should still work from windows. The UNIX clients don't have any users either, because all user information is taken from an AD. The setup is the following: Samba 3rc1 fileserver Win2k3 AD Server + Win2k clients and Linux clients Basically the win2k3 AD schema has been updated

Setting ACLs with smbcacls fails (partly)
Hello, I'm running a PDC and a secondary DC in privilegded lxc containers and try to setup a fileserver in an unprivileged lxc container. The shares of the file server are on the ZFS of the host and mapped via bind-mount. I've got the problem, that I get error messages when setting the ACLs of a samba share either via the Windows explorer or using the smbcacls command. On Windows

Windows ACLs and Replication
I work with a product that's similar to a NAS. It utilizes CentOS 6 and Samba v4.0.0-64.el6.rc4 to serve CIFS clients. The product provides "full Windows ACL support" via the acl_xattr module. The underlying file system, a FUSE implementation, provides full support for extended attributes. That much of it works remarkably well. The product supports an option to replicate shares from

Preserving ACLs on files when copying from NT4 server to Samba 3.0.5 server
Hi guys. I'm running: Mandrake 9.2 Kernel 2.4.22-30mdk XFS file system Samba 3.0.5 plus patches for bugs 1315, 1319 and 1345 (self compiled) OpenLDAP 2.1.22-5mdk smbldap-tools 0.8.5 I was able to join the Samba to the NT PDC as a BDC and vampire without issue. I have setup duplicate shares on Samba and am trying to copy over the data from NT. I have tried scopy, xcopy and copying via

Permissions incorrectly ordered on Windows after disabling inheritance
Hi everyone, I've noticed a problem with Debian wheezy + samba 3.6.6 configured with acl_xattr in my configuration. The following test sequence causes Windows Explorer to report incorrectly ordered permission entries: 1) Map a share as with "admin" user credentials to a drive letter on a Windows client 2) Create a folder at the root of the share "rootfolder" 3) Create a

ACLs revisited
Hi all, My appologies if this has been addressed before, but I've been searching the list archives and can only find people reporting having the problem, not a solution. I have found a solution for my own situation and I thought I'd share it in case it can help anyone else. BACKGROUND ========== I'm running Samba 3 on Fedora Core 2. I've kept the machine up to date with

Using ACLs
I am trying to change some ACLs on some files and directories. I have samba binaries with acl support compiled in. I am using an XFS filesystem. The Mandrake kernel supports acls by default. When I right click on the file in Windows explorer and change the permissions, I get an access denied error. If I use smbcacls, I get the following: [root@luna tmp]# smbcacls //luna/tmp test.txt -U jim -A

NT ACL preservation
Hey, hoping I can get some guidance on how this works. I've got a running samba standalone setup. On one of my shares, I want to preserve the ACL of files as they come from the client (Win 7), in essence acting as a file backup. My setup for this share is currently: valid users = @wheel public = no writeable = yes vfs objects = btrfs acl_xattr # acl_xattr: ignore system acls = yes # map

Samba 3.0.33 ACL rename/delete issue
Hello, I have noticed some ALC issues with files and directories. I use samba server 3.0.33 on CentOS 4.8 joined to Windows 2003 domain. Everything works fine, all users are authenticated to domain controller. My aim is to give FULL ACCESS (open/read/write/rename/delete..) to directory "testdir" to two users, john and mark without using groups because I have no permissions on domain

displaying ntfs acls for a remote windows host
howdy all - I am hoping to be able to manipulate the NTFS acls on a remote windows host from a linux box. smbcacls, although fairly poorly documented, seems as if it will do what i need from a modifying standpoint. however, it doesn't look like it includes a switch to display acls for a file. can someone point me towards a utility or method of viewing acls on a remote host, if one

Unable to set ACLs with Samba 3.0.11, near publication deadline
Hello, Jeremy and Jerry, I met both of you at LinuxWorld in Boston, where I learned tons and tons of great stuff from your presentations. I'm writing on deadline for publication and would really, really, really like to show off Samba's ability to map NT ACLs to POSIX ACLs. But right now, I can't make them work. I've spent some time on the Samba list trying to make this work, but

Permission problems with samba 2.2.x
Hello, Sometimes I have to create and use Navision Databases on samba shares - this works with samba 2.0.x but does not with samba 2.2.x (tried 2.2.3a and 2.2.4). The following tests were done with a acl enabeled samba and an acl aware kernel/filesystem, but I also have done these tests with acl not compiled into samba on an host without acl in the kernel - same result, does not work, same
