winbind separator oddity
Hello All, Samba 3.024 EL5 install ---------------------------------------- This will seem like an odd one to all I am sure. I will explain. This machine is used solely for our school's file server, home folders server. All aspects works great and have been using Vista clients on it for going on three years. Vista was a bit of a learning curve at the time getting all the behind the scene

samba and vista workstation logins
Helli All, I am trying to get our Samba "homes" file server to work with Vista workstation logins. The following is what I am getting ONLY on Vista workstations in the samba.log. ( XP & 2000 machines do not get this.) I did add the [profiles.V2} copy = profiles Hoping this might be the fix. Still no joy. I can paste my smb.conf if any thinks it would help. Bottom line is my smb.conf

valid users problem with 3.0.23a
Hello, I'm trying out 3.023a on a devt server and I ran into an odd problem. The server is a domain member in an AD mixed mode setup. I am now unable to connect to the server and I have isolated the problem to the valid users entry. My parameter looks like: valid users = @DOMAIN+"groupname with spaces" I've verified that the account I am using is a member of the

samba-vscan-clamav update
Hello All, Just wanting to post here in regards to samba-vscan-clamav. For a few versions of Samba there was a small bug in samba-vscan-clamav code . There was a patch put out several months ago to make this this work once again with Samba. This setup does work very nicely in conjunction with clamav. Just for convenience I have built an binary rpm of this. This rpm was built using version 3.0333

samba-vscan-clamav on access virus scanner for Samba
Hello Listers, Don't know what everyone is using for virus scanning on your school's windersz boxes. Just thought this may be of interest to some people here. I set up a few weeks ago, on our Samba file server for all students and staff at school samba-vscan-clamav. I guess i shouldn't blow about it yet, but with quite a bit of testing by yours truly, this really works slick as a real

Active Directory member problem
Hello I have added a Linux member server (my laptop) to our production Windows 2003 ADS domain (with net ads join, not net rpc join). Yet, when I browse to it from an Xp client (member of the domain) I still get a username/password dialog. What works: - wbinfo -g and wbinfo -u show usernames and passwords (without DOMAIN+ prefix) - getent passwd works - smbclient and logging in to the member

Winbind Authentication on HP-UX 11 works
With the help Don McCall and other posts on the samba list we get WINBIND and PAM to work on HP-UX 11.x servers to authenticate with NT domain. If any one wants the documentation or the binaries please e-mail me. The only big question I have is, how can I logon to the HP-UX server without having to specify the DOMAIN+ before the username. We can telnet using DOMAIN+USERNAME, is there a way to

samba-vscan-clamav -realtime file scanning on Samba server
Hello List, I posted on the K12LTSP wiki an howto on how to setup samba-vscan-clamav on a Samba file server. This maybe should be on the samba wiki, but I think it would apply to most folks here using K12LTSP, as well. It takes about 15 minutes to setup and have working. I did post a link to download a precompiled module for this that will work on Samba-3.0.23c which shipped with K12LTSP EL5.it

Windows changes file ownership & ACL's - any solution ?
I thought I had read a response to this. Went something like this: Word (and lots of others such apps) do not actually deal with the original file. They create a temporary file which overwrites the original when you save the new document. The 'new' file of course inherits the new editor's ownership. Hope this helps you. Samba vscan VFS Module
I'm trying to configure Samba's vscan on-access VFS module on a box with a working CLAM installation. [CLAM is merrily scanning mail on this box via clamav-milter]. I've set this up before, but this time it seems to be giving me grief. If I remove the vscan-clamav module then everything works, and I can open files. When I try to open a file with the module enable I just get a file

Hi Mariusz, I found this thread at SAMBA.ORG: snip... I can't remember for certain, but try using a relative path. > (e.g. vscan-mksd.so). I tried relative and non-relative path, with this same effect but you've right because in manual for samba-vscan we can read that in samba 3.0 we should use relative path. I had increase debug level of samba daemon and in my log I have found

Samba + Antivirus
List, we are working on implementing an antivirus solution (samba-vscan + clamav)on our samba shares. We performed the steps mentioned on some guides we found in Portuguese and things seems to be installed ok. But when we make a test and try to access a share, every file on it is not accessible (though we can mount the share) and after looking at /var/log/messages we see the following: ... Mar 11

I'm trying to join a Windows XP (64 bit version) machine to a Samba 3.0.21a domain via smbldap-tools 0.9.1 on FreeBSD 6.0-RELEASE-p4 and I'm continually getting the message "The user name could not be found."
