Samba ignoring socket options?
Hi everyone. I am running Samba 3.2.0-22.1 (as packaged by OpenSUSE in 11.0) on a storage server connected to multiple windows based clients over a gigabit ethernet link. The server is a quad core Intel CPU and is equipped with an Intel e1000 based gigabit ethernet controller and plugged into a common gigabit ethernet switch with the windows clients. I am seeing performance issues on transfers

Permission denied on mounted CIFS share
We have this situation: System A (running openSUSE 11.0 with samba-3.2.3-0.1) exports user home shares (e.g. for user sledz). On system B (running openSUSE 11.0 with samba-3.2.3-0.1) user hydra mounts the home share from sledz at system A with this command: sudo mount -t cifs -o user=sledz, uid=hydra //A/sledz localdir A subdir of this directory seen from A looks like this: sledz@A> ls

RObjectTables freezes in R 3.2.0 RC on 32bit systems
We recently started noticing freezes that appear only on 32bit systems (both linux and windows) with a relatively recent versions of R 3.2.0, including the RC. It looks like the problem can be traced back to the use of R_ObjectTables (see R_ext/Callbacks.h) The problem is a bit difficult to reproduce because it does not appear on x64 and because the official R interface to this functionality, the

Clustering and winbindd
Hi all! I'm working on a project that, funnily enough, involves clustering and "winbindd". Specifically, we have a 2-node cluster configured in an active-active configuration whereby both servers are running Samba, each "exporting" different filesystems that are backed on a shared storage subsystem such that at any given time, one node can takeover from the other. The

xp/2003 explorer freezes browsing shares on Samba 3.2 ipv6 hosts
After upgrading one of our servers from Fedora 7 to Fedora 9, from Samba 3.0 to 3.2.0-2.17.fc9 I noticed this strange phenomena: Windows 2003 and XP clients freeze when you type "\\server" in an explorer address bar where "server" is the name of the Samba 3.2 host. Windows 2000 clients don't freeze. 2003/XP clients don't freeze when you enter

Libvirtd freezes
Hello everyone I come back to ask for a hand to solve a problem that has affected me since October 2016 and I have not yet solved using libvirt. I thought I would solve it by going to a 4.9.x kernel with qemu 2.8.1.1 and with libvirt 3.2.0. Compile it all in a stable LFS environment version 7.9 and that all checks pass without errors. The strange thing is that the libvirtd process starts without

3.2.4 ACL inheritance trouble
Hi, Since 3.2.4 (maybe earlier, but I doubt it), one important feature does not work anymore for me: I cannot break ACL inheritance anymore in the Windows ACL editor. With previous Samba versions, I entered the "Advanced" dialog of the Windows ACL editor and unchecked the flag "Inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects. Include these with entries

Concern about 3.0.22->3.0.23b upgrade (algorithmic SIDs issue)
I'm compiling samba-3.0.23b as I write this. However, after studying the documentation, I have some serious concerns about installing it. The WHATSNEW file says that the method of mapping unix-native uids and gids to SIDs has changed since 3.0.22. As I read this, this would imply that upgrading Samba will cause much breakage because domain users will no longer be able to access files they

winbind BUILTIN config
All, We have a samba3 domain which provides logon services for Windows clients, and several cifs shares, some for Windows clients and some for linux servers to mount. I am testing samba 4.5.4 in a lab to understand all that needs to happen for a migration to AD on samba4. During testing we bumped up against winbind config for linux member servers. Since we want users to authenticate against AD,

Upgraded to 4.8 - forced to use winbindd - retro how to missing?
Prior to 4.8, without winbind in the picture, a windows user named "rab", for instance, could be authenticated by AD, but would assume the identity of the Unix user "rab", with all of his Unix defined groups. Of course, this is not full emulation of a Windows server experience, but nonetheless it is the behavior we wanted and worked well in our environment where every AD user
