Shadow Copy and Windows 7
Before I beat myself over this... Iv'e set-up shadow_copy2 and it works great for XP,2003,Vista and 2008. Windows 7 however does not find any previous versions of the files. Anyone aware of a problem or a solution? We are running 3.4.2 on Debian Squeeze. Thanks, Robert LeBlanc Life Sciences & Undergraduate Education Computer Support Brigham Young University

Vista SP1, Server 2008 joining NT4/Samba Domain
Hello! It seems, that Vista SP1 and Server 2008 cannot join an NT4/Samba-domain. Vista once could join before SP1, if one did some modifications to the system (LAN Manager authentication level, Encryption of secure channel). But these workarounds do not seem to work with SP1 anymore. Microsoft points out that joining NT4-domains with Vista SP1 and Server 2008 is not supported/tested

Sweave and accented letters
I often use Lyx/Sweave and I typically write in english. Today I had to write a document in Italian and, as many of you know, many italian popular words use ?, ?, ?. ?, etc. I discovered that if I type in Italian (that is there is at least one letter with accent) with the Sweave module selected lye is not able to correctly compile the document. I tried to change the input encoding, but it

Vista (pre-installed OEM editions) creating new files or folders on network shares
Hi, This post is to prevent other people that are having trouble with Vista clients from going down a blind alley investigating problems in their samba configurations. After some research I have found (see link below) that there is a general problem for pre-installed OEM editions of Vista Business (and possibly other vista versions) in creating files and folders on network shares. The problem

Changing owner/group on samba share
I've looked around and can't find the answer. We have a Samba file server joined to our Active Directory and using ACLs. We are enforcing quotas on this machine, but when specifying the home directory, the directory is owned by the person who created it. Using Windows and going into the security permissions, there doesn't seem to be a way to remove the owning user/group. When you hit

Samba & Vista
I'm trying to use smbclient to look at a Vista box but I keep getting: # smbclient -L user-pc -U Kellie Password: <Kellie's password> session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE I know the user/password combination is good. I googled around and got the impression that Vista didn't play well with Samba because of some authentication protocol that Vista uses but I also got the

Upgrading to Vista with Samba 3.0.28a
I've been running a samba 3.0.28a PDC with XP clients for a while now. The setup has been working flawlessly. I'm considering upgrading some of the clients to Vista. Are there any known issues to Vista using this version of Samba that I should know about. I all need to do is join the Samba domain and connect to a few network shares.

Vista won't copy roaming profile to server
Hello, fresh installed Samba 3.024 o Debian system as PDC with roaming profiles. Vista only creates user.V2 in [profiles] but not copy profile after logoff. Directory is writable and XP works good. Any ideas? Thanks. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Vista-won%27t-copy-roaming-profile-to-server-tp21910084p21910084.html Sent from the Samba - General mailing list archive at

More failover issues
In 1.6.0, when creating a MDT, you could specify multiple --mgsnode options and it would failover between them. 1.6.3 only seems to take the last one and --mgsnode=192.168.1.252 at o2ib:192.168.1.253 at o2ib doesn''t seem to failover to the other node. Any ideas how to get around this? Robert Robert LeBlanc College of Life Sciences Computer Support Brigham Young University leblanc at

utils::isS3stdGeneric chokes on primitives and identity
Trace adds something to the body of the function, so it does make sense that it doesn't. Whether traced functions still technically meet the definition of standard s3 generic or not is, I suppose, up for debate, but I would say that they should, I think. As before, if desired I can work on a patch for this if desired, or someone on R-core can just take care of it if that is easier. Best, ~G

trace creates object in base namespace if called on function argument
Please note that this is documented in ?trace. "fun" is matched to what, it is a _name_ of the function to be traced, which is traced in the top-level environment. I don't know why it was designed this way, but it is documented in detail, and hence the expected behavior. Debugging is often, and also in R, implemented in the core. Tracing is implemented on top without specific

Samba & Vista
Hi, I am using samba in ads mode with a Windows SBS 2003 domain controller. samba: 3.0.24-6 server os: Debian Etch. client os: Vista Business SP1 The system has been running effectively for more than 4 years with Windows XP machines. I now have a Vista laptop that I am using on the system and have hit an odd problem. Whilst shares that don't specify valid users still map with

Convert idmap_rid to idmap_hash?
I was looking through the change log of 3.3.0 and noticed that a new idmap_hash was introduced that seems to play well with trusted domains. What means are available to convert all my rids to this new hash so I can update file permissions? Microsoft OneNote 2007 painfully slow
We have a user trying to share a OneNote 2007 notebook and it takes minutes to load a 20 KB notebook. I've opened a 500 KB Excel spreadsheet from the same share and it took seconds. Has anyone else run into this problem? We are running Samba 3.4.8 on Debian Squeeze. Thanks, Robert LeBlanc Life Sciences & Undergraduate Education Computer Support Brigham Young University

[LLVMdev] LLVM parsers for popular languages? - Python, Rust, Go
Thanks, happy to of confirmed. With that in mind, will use the AST modules provided by the languages (with the exception of libclang for C++). Antoine: Am aware of Numba, nice job there BTW. So is there a [decoupled] LLVM parser which I can use to read Python files and analyse objects (including computing their attributes in OO and setattr scenarios)? Giving a domU direct access to a NIC
Hello, I am experimenting with Snort and other IDS and I would like to use Xen for these tests. This would require me to use port mirroring to sent a bunch of packets to a NIC located on my Xen machine. I don''t really know how Xen networking works, but is it possible to give a domU direct access to a NIC ? Or at least give it enough access so that it can see packets that are not for the
