odd mac situation
Morning, This is somewhat off topic. I've not thought of a better place to ask than here. I have a user on a Macbook (Mac OS X 10.5, Leopard) with Microsoft Office 2008 for the mac and Parallels running an image of Microsoft Windows XP Pro with Microsoft Office 2007. Inside Parallels and XP Pro the user can open a spreadsheet shared from a Windows Server 2003 box, and yet the user gets an

Re: Still trying to backup 66 GB from LINUX to W2K
Both "rexec.exe" and "rsh.exe" from W2K have the problem. However, the "rsh.exe" from Hummingbird's Exceed package works just fine. I copied it into my cygWin's /usr/bin directory and did cd /cygdrive/c/temp time rsh p92 "cd /local;tar cbf 64 - SAS" | dd of=here.tar and the file is OK. It tars out all the files in SAS directory.

samba breaks during user authentication after it was updated
Hello, I am running samba on a machine running fedora 5. I did not know the system was configured to automatically update the system via cron, and when it put the new samba on last night, seems to have broken things. It is coredumping now whenever a user tries to authenticate. Our system is set up with user level security which i manage via smbpasswd so there are no windows domains involved. The

cygwin and linux permissions?
I have a linux box (FC5) with samba 3.0.23c and most things are running fine. Today I'm setting up cygwin on a windows box so a user can ssh into the box. I figure out how to have cygwin authenticate using the samba PDC. The user gets the linux home directory that has been

rsync *Still* Copying All Files?
Hi, all. This is my first post to the list, so please forgive me if this is an old issue. I scoured the mailing list archives by hand and could find no mention of it, and the official FAQ-o-matic mentions it, but doesn't offer a fix that works for me. I've set up an rsync daemon on Windows NT4 by installing the latest cygwin. Using the cygwin1.dll and rsync.exe, I'm able to connect

Upgrade 3.0.24-3.fc5 to 3.0.24-4.fc5 Anomaly
As part of our deployment of FC updates we have upgraded our office server from 3.0.24-3 to 3.0.24.4. We got some strange results. Shares that have the same name as the users home directory and/or the same name as their users id became inaccessible. For example, my user id is kens, my home directory is in /home/kens and there was a share of it called kens. There is also a common share

Printers queue with possible bug
Hello all, Got a problem with samba (from what I can tell) and is similar to some KB items here: With version 3.0.4-6.3E of Samba, why do completed print jobs stay in the print queue when printing to a Samba-shared printer from other Samba or Windows clients? And I have Samba version 3.0.24 installed. Why do completed print jobs stay in the print queue when printing to a Samba-shared printer

Valid Users setting causing crash
Hey list, Having a strange issue on a new File server. This system is running the 64-bit version of Fedora 5 running kernel 2.6.20-1.2300.fc5 and version 3.0.24-1.fc5 of Samba. This system is functioning as a backup to a primary system that is configured the same way. Same OS, hardware, etc. After moving data over and setting up the users and groups, I moved over the smb.conf file as well. In

some portability fixes ...
i don't want to deal with CVS, so i'll just post some minor fixes along to explanations for your amusement on this list ... I. cygwin compilability cygwin doesn't yet handle threads that is compatible with icecast, but thankfully icecast supports win32 native threads. however, cygwin's preprocessor "#define"'s makes icecast confuse whether it should behave

[LLVMdev] Building LLVM and LLVM-GCC4 on Cygwin
Hello, Well theres not too much to it. A patch for Cygwin's stdint.h. And a patch for lib/System/Unix/Program.inc. Despite Cygwin complaining of timing errors both LLVM and LLVM-GCC4 compile ok'ish. make[2]: Warning: File `/dev/null' has modification time 0.0096 s in the future make[2]: warning: Clock skew detected. Samba with NFS
We're having a problem with a combination of NFS and Samba that I'm hoping someone here has seen before and knows the solution for. In this case, the Samba server is an NFS client, and the Samba share is actually an NFS mount to an NFS server. The problem we see is when a Windows client tries to open a file on the Samba share, the application hangs, and eventually comes back saying

"read error" when accessing a file on mounted samba share (Linux)
Hi all, This is my first experience with network file sharing on Linux so I'm looking for debugging advice. Server and client are both running FC5. I've set up my home directory as a share on the server using system-config-samba, everything seems fine. On the client side, as root: # smbclient -L server.domain Password: Domain=[DOMAIN] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.23a-1.fc4.1]

BUG: read: Invalid argument
I'm attempting to mirror a directory tree from debian stable (rsync version 2.5.6cvs) to a win2k box (cygwin, rsync version 2.5.5). This setup/command had previously worked for a bit (cygwin at rsync version 2.4.6 AFAICR), but yesterday it hung, so, finding some mail-list entries about that, I upgraded cygwin, and now I get this: C:\>c:\cygwin\bin\rsync.exe -vvvvvv -essh -ac --delete

Compiling rsync for Windows without Cygwin
Hi, I've downloaded rsync source packages using Cygwin installer, built it using the regular procedures and no I got a working binary that should be deployed together with Cygwin's DLL. I would like to compile the package without Cygwin (using Mingw?) in order to avoid the Cygwin's DLL dependancy and not to be bound to the Cygwin's license, but to the GPL license. Does anyone

Unusable performance over WAN (part 2)
Hi all, Disregard my previous posts, I've consolidated everything here. I'm having terrible performance issues with samba over a WAN (point-to-point T1 link). Doing a copy of a 2MB file from a samba server to a linux client running smbclient takes over 5 minutes. SCPing the same file takes seconds. The server is running samba version 3.0.25c with kernel 2.6.16.18. I've put up a set

corrupt PACKAGES.gz?
Is it just me, or did a corrupt PACKAGES.gz file get installed in the bin/windows/contrib/3.2 directory of CRAN mirrors recently? gzfile() complains about it and Cygwin's gzip cannot decompress it. I tried the following repos <- "https://cran.rstudio.com" v <- "3.2" pkgs.gz <- paste(sep="/", repos, "bin/windows/contrib", v,
