Erratic / unstable PDC
Greetings all,
I have a problem with my Samba server seeming to hang for 10
seconds every 5 minutes or so. Client machines also become
sluggish across the entire network during this period. It
does not seem to affect file transfers that are in progress.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Performance and disconnect troubles on winbind after samba upgrade
Hello,
We have a RHEL4 x64 running for 3 years, which is a samba member server
integrated with a AD domain without any problems (we was using
samba-3.0.10-1.4E.6).
Last Saturday we performed an entire server update, applying all RHN
available patches. Everything is running fine, except for winbind
service which has a strange behavior: often we are receiving some errors
at logs, and the

Active Directory authentication no longer works
Hello all,
I have 3 Linux boxes all authenticating against 2 Windows 2003 domain
controllers. Each Linux box is running a different Linux and samba version:
Box1: CentOS 3.4 3.0.25-7
Box2: CentOS 4.4 3.0.10-1
Box3: CentOS 5 3.0.23c-2
Their smb.conf and krb5.conf files are all identical (below). A few days
ago authentication stopped working and my /var/log/messages fills up

Test Failure for RW1 with samba-3.0.30, Solaris 9
I'm trying to build and install Samba 3.0.30 on a Solaris 9 SPARC machine.
When I do a "make test", the RW1 test is failing. If I go back and
configure and build 3.0.28 with the same settings, and do a make test,
everything passes. Here's what I'm seeing with 3.0.30:

Client accessing Samba doesn't authenticate against Active Directory
When a Windows client attempts to browse shares on a Samba 3.0 server
authenticating against a Windows 2003 Active Directory domain, it
requests credentials. Typing in user name and password fails.
Basically, I can't see even see the shares.
If I give username/password for a user in smbpasswd, then I can browse
the Samba server.

PDC and NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD
I have Samba 3.4.11 + OpenLDAP (slapd 2.4.11) as domain controller for
small windows network. Everything works (almost) ok, but sometimes
clients report delays with access on shares on primary domain
controller (PDC) and sometimes I had problems with adding new
computers to domain.
In /var/log/message I found these errors:

samba & unix group permissions problems
Hi,
I'm having permissions problems connecting to a share when the gid of
the directory shared is not the primary group of the user connecting to it.
Maybe I faced it the wrong way, but I did read (and at least thought I
understood) the 'File, directory and share access controls' section of
the howto [0].
My users have either one or another 'primary group' (the one set in

smb.service fails to start after openSUSE Tumbleweed update
Hello! I had working Samba installation on openSUSE Tumbleweed server.
I made my previous OS update a month ago, and everything worked fine
after it. But today I updated the OS again, and smb.service failed to
start.

I tried many things:
- minimal config
- removed Samba package with all the dependencies and installed it again

Hi!
I have a problem with a Samba share, in a Windows 2003 AD Domain, I am
setting up a machine with Ubuntu 14.04 and Samba 4.1.6 into the AD and I
want to make a samba share but I need to use the format user at fqdn to

?It is possible to use this format?
If I use the format DOMAIN\user it works perfect, ?can I change the

samba/ldap setup stopped working (might be a challenge)
Hi,
two days ago my functioning samba/ldap server stopped working. I *think* the
problem is somehow related to the fact i transfered everything to a new
server, but that was two months ago. Trouble started yesterday morning after
a power-outage.
Configuration: ubuntu 8.04, with a standard samba, ldap and smbldap-tools
installed via apt-get.
When users tried to login, they got a message "a

smb.service fails to start after openSUSE Tumbleweed update
Hai,
Yes that is know.
Enable and change the range to a, for you usable range, outside the current ranges.
Example:
idmap config * : backend = tdb
idmap config * : range = 3000-7999
Now start samba and winbind.
And posting you smb.conf really helps of analyze things like this.

Hi,
I have a strange problem with samba 3.0.14a. One of my users is
experiencing a lot of temporary files created by winword 2003. Winword
does delete the temp files under any other userid. The only difference I
know of is that the problematic user was created after the automatic
switch from samba 2.2.8a to 3.0.14a (during an upgrade from debian woody

SMB Signature verification failed on incoming packet!
I am running Samba 3.0.9/KRB5 1.4 on Centos 3.4 on x86 with security = ADS in a Win2k3 domain. I have successfully used kinit to authenticate, joined the domain, and wbinfo -g/-u/-t return the expected results. However, when I try and access the samba shares from a Win2k3 box, it fails telling me I don't have permissions to access the share. Needless to say I am thoroughly perplexed. I have
