Detecting read/write permissions
Hi
I'm currently using a windows image processing application that
regularly writes the user's image adjustments out to a 'sidecar' file in
the same directory as the original image. When the original file is on a
local disk this works fine but when the original image is on Samba
share, the sidecars are not created.
The application reports the following in its log:

Samba crashes and domain problems
Hi,
I have inherited a Samba PDC running on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 10.1
(the Samba version is 3.0.24-2.23-1296-SUSE-CODE10).
The server has been giving problems for a few weeks including the following
symptoms:
1. Users accessing a share are experiencing intermittent problems writing to
the share (Excel tells them the file they are trying to write is read-only).
2. when I try to add a

Following symlinks
I'm struggling with following symlinks with samba on the recent
versions. I cannot use mount -bind as I've seen others suggest. This is
for my mythtv backend, so I'm using the rename script to create nice
names for the recordings.
Anyway, I can map the drive from Windows XP and Windows 7, and see
symlinked files, but I cannot open or copy them as I used to be able to do.

Samba Share : Connection refused
Hi everyone,
I have a small issue on our main samba server. We added a hardware
firewall with different zones and now I want to get access from new
development LAN (192.168.4.) to samba (192.168.0.) but I get information
about access denied on windows 7 (net use Error 5).
Firewall is open to all internal LANs. I checked the smb.conf and, for
me, it seems to be fine. I added hosts allow before

getent group is not working
getent group is not working in an opensuse 13.1 member server for an active directory samba 4 domain
wbinfo -u, wbinfo -g, wbinfo -t and getent passwd | grep SIENIC are working, these are my configuration files and the output of the commands.
Note: the domain controller has samba installed from source (4.1.11), the member server has the distro packages installed (4.1.0)

Samba 4.1.3 and MS-CLIENT 3
Hi all,
I have the following problem: I installed Samba 4.1.3
on my Linux computer. I tested everything via smbclient
and it works. If I connect my MS-DOS Client 3 to this
server strange things happens. Using
net use h: \\<sambaserver>\<username>
I get the correct (?) answer
H: connected to \\<sambaserver>\<username>
But using "H: dir" I get

To make winbindd upset and unresponsive (3.2.6)
This simple and often-suggested command to test Samba:
getent passwd
reproducibly upsets winbindd on my SLES 10 SP1 machine. The command
does often return many results from our campus ADS. But after it
completes -- or if the command pauses for quite some time after
showing local users -- Samba is troubled. In five tests this
afternoon, after getent passwd,
wbinfo --ping
fails every time

[HELP] SAMBA as PDC for windows.
Hi guys, well, reason I'm here is because im stuck, I've tried everything but
have come up empty handed every single time, and I really need this
security, and fast. I'm not going to pay a few thousand for windows server
... because this can be done with SAMBA. Here goes. I tried to setup samba
with defaults, went to (on windows) Control Panel -> System -> (TAB)

krb5 configuration generation
Hi,
Is there any way to stop Samba regenerating the krb5.conf.[WORKGROUP] file under /var/lib/samba/smb_krb5 every time?
It appears to completely ignore /etc/krb5.conf, is this expected?
