Re: roaming profiles and folder redirection: programs 'not responding' (solved)
I seem to have solved the problem. While I had the 'wins' entry in /etc/nsswitch.conf of the samba machine, winbind wasn't installed, so it wasn't able to do a netbios lookup of the client machine. Since I fixed this problem, the 'not responding' problem didn't occur anymore. Greetings, Heiko 2008/8/10 Heiko Harders <heiko.harders@gmail.com>: > Hello, >

Samba roaming profile with folder redirection
Hi, I have a domain controller which was configured to use the local profiles. We have a relatively small group whose work required it. Now we are moving toward using the domain for all machine with roaming profile. There are a lot of posts dealing with the roaming profiles and the folder redirection. But I've met some issues. My configuration: NS3 and SMB are hostnames of our servers.

Folder redirection changes library names
Hello! I know that this topic belogs more to Windows 7 than to Samba. But perhaps some users had the same problem already and could give some help. I used folder redirection for an existing roaming profile as described in http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html#redirfold All works fine. But the localized geman names of the libraries changed after the first relogon as

Roaming Profile & Folder Redirection Problems
I'm running Samba 3.0.7 on SuSE 9.1 with OpenLDAP for auth. I've been mostly following along Terpstra's Book "Samba 3 By Example", as lots of other people here have been. The three big problems I'm having are: 1) After a Windows XP user logs out for the first time, upon next login they get an error message saying "Windows cannot log you in because your profile

[acl] setting user/group permissions from windows
Hello, I've setup a samba PDC (3.0.31) and I am using Windows Vista clients. Logging on works fine using roaming profiles and folder redirections. I am also able to write to shares, etc. Now I am trying to get the advanced permissions on files to work. So on my share: [share] comment = Shared directories path = /samba/share read only = No guest ok = Yes With the following user rights

Roaming profiles via GPO and matching rights on a folder
Hello, I set up Samba as an AD-controller as described in the documentation, that is with "samba-tool domain provision --use-rfc2307 --interactive", https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO. I used Debian 7.8 as basis and the current packages (last Friday) from Sernet for Samba 4.1. Now I try to set up roaming profiles as described by Microsoft here:

folder redirecting for non-roaming users - is it reasonable?
Hello, I have non-roaming users (that is, they have their own PC / place where they sit and they don't change it). They use roaming profiles though - mainly because the profile is uploaded to the server, and then uploaded as a backup somewhere else. Now one of our IT staff is forcing the idea that these non-roaming users should have mad folder redirecting (that is, keep My documents and

Samba 4.3. - Problem with roaming profiles
This problem has several elements but it did not evidence itself until we moved from a MicroSoft AD-DC to a Samba AD-DC. The environment is is a FreeBSD-10.3 Bhyve VM hosted on a 16 core host also running FreeBSD-10.3. The version of Samba is 4.3.11 obtained through FreeBSD ports. The AD clients are all running MSWin7pro patched up-to-date. Roaming profiles are in use. We have an intermittent

Win XP/7 with roaming profiles
Before last week, we have been running Samba 3.0.28 on Ubuntu Hardy as a PDC for Windows XP Pro machines using roaming profiles. This has worked for years with no issues. We migrated to a server running Ubuntu Lucid and Samba 3.4.7 so that we could start adding Windows 7 Pro machines to the domain. We first moved servers/samba versions and worked out a few kinks with the XP machines.
