File locking problem involving Samba, Clearcase, and Cygwin
We are having some problems in our company's test group that did not exist when our Clearcase 2003.06 server existed on a Solaris 8 machine. Now we are running on RHEL 5.2 with Clearcase 7.0.1.3 with Samba 3.0.28 (despite the fact that IBM has only blessed up to 3.0.24) and running into some file locking issues with some scripts our test group runs. I am hoping that someone might have some

Ubuntu 8.04 breaks samba file locking
Just upgraded Saturday from Ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04.01. File locking in Samba is now broken, meaning two different users can have the same file open at the same time and edit it. Server is RedHat 9.0 running Samba 2.2.7a-security-rollup-fix. This has been working well for us for several years. Have one WinXP box accessing the server using OOo 2.0. Have another couple of Win95 boxes. In addition,

Locking Options. - ACT Database
I am trying to share an ACT 2000 database on a Samba shared network drive. Act does not currently support Samba shared networking but they do not see any reason why it should not work. Is anyone else out there using ACT in a multi-user environment over a Samba shared drive? If so what settings are you using for the "oplocks" and "level2 oplocks" for the share? Thanks, Paul.

File Locking
Hi- I'm running Samba on OpenSuse10.2 and have shared some drives with Windows clients. The clients are accessing a bunch of MS Word files on the server and we have experienced a lot of weird file locking problems. Sometimes MS Word will open the file as Read-Only which is creating a bit of a headache. I would like to turn off file locking completely on the Samba side and was wondering

locking in samba
Hello! I've got into problems with simultaneous access to files on samba server. Two (or more) people from different computers may open the same file and may independently change it (with openoffice, for example). Certainly, this is not the expected behavior. If the file is shared on windows machine, when the first user opens it, he gots RW permission, while the next one(s) may open this

Samba not locking files
Hello, I created the following samba share but for some reason samba is not locking the files open by other users. For example user dave open a file in the share and user slav does not get the notification that opened file is already being used by another user. I even added the locking options to the global but no luck. [share] comment = Main share path = /share guest ok = no writable = yes

Locking between GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows
Hi, I'm having some trouble with locking between GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows. I wrote some Clipper code that run's on GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows (compiled to different binaries ofcourse) that tries to lock a file on a Samba share. Between Microsoft Windows clients there is no problem. The locking works as expected. If one client does an EXCLUSIVE lock, the other's can't

Lost All Win95 connections to Samba
Hi-- Last night I shut down my network for the thunderstorms going through the area, and unplugged it all. When I booted up this morning, I had no Win95 connection to my samba server. My setup: Ubuntu 6.06 server, running samba 3.0.22. 3 Ubuntu workstations, 1 WinXP Pro, 2 Win95 boxes. The Ubuntu boxes mount the same directories as the Win boxes, using cifs. What I have tried: checking log

CIFS + NFS'ing a single filesystem w/ locking
Hi, I have a Solaris 10 server exporting UFS directories using built-in NFS. I've built Samba 3.0.20b from OpenPKG (www.openpkg.org). I have a Solaris 10 (x86) client mounting the NFS share and opening OpenDocument files using StarOffice 8 (SO8, aka OO2.0). I also have a Windows 2003 Terminal Server mounting the Samba share and opening documents with SO8. This is a temporary development

CTDB and locking issues reloaded
Hi there, I'm following your list for several months, as we run a CTDB cluster of Samba gateways over our distributed filesystem. I decided to post my first message to resume an old thread (https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2016-October/204043.html), hoping to progress and reach some conclusion. Essentially, we observe and can reproduce issues when attempting to lock a given file

Samba kills network.
When i try to swap files between disks on my server using samba i get errors: then windows reports "The specified network name is no longer available". Sometimes the copies are fine other times files just wont copy. Hardware checks out fine. Ive even replaced the network cable between server and switch thinking that might be causing the problem. Ive included a ethereal cap of the

samba file locking
Hi samba experts, We have a strange file locking problem and i hope someone can help. We use some CentOS 5 servers, which use samba 3.0.33, to share files of a java application to clients. Clients are mostly CentOS 5 (same version as the server), but there are a few legacy windows clients (the reason why we use samba and not nfs). And now the problem. When our developer uploads a new jar file to
