multiple plots using summary in rms package
Dear All, I wonder if someone can point me in the right direction here. I'm working with the rms library, R 2.9.2 under Windows XP. I'm trying to arrange two plots side by side for a colleague. mfrow or mfcol do not seem to work, however, so I am obviously missing something important. I know that there have been changes in the graphics from Design to rms, but am just not sure where to

Windows client doesn't show up in findsmb
What does it mean if a windows XP consistently doesn't show up in findsmb even when it does show up in smbstatus? Also, I don't know if this is related or not, but the same machine sometimes shows up in smbstatus with two different PIDs. We've seen this with two different machines, both running XP. Here's smbstatus output (the machine in question is accountingiii): Samba

Looking for large-ish deployment advice
Colleagues- I am working on the design of a fairly large samba deployment, and I am looking for feedback on some of my design ideas. I have 10 buildings spread out in and around a city, all interconnected via 1.5Mb leased lines. There are samba servers in each building. I have some users that move from building to building. We are using primarily windows 98 desktops, with a few 2K and XPP

Multiple deployments of same application using backgroundrb
Thanks for this great app. I am having some problems configuring it in my server. I have a single app deployed three times, one is for testing, one is for demoing and the other one is for production. I read that it was unnecesary and it will not work to have multiple instances of backgroundrb for each of my deployments. I read that it was enough to instantiate backgroundrb only once from one of

Large scale ZFS deployments out there (>200 disks)
While thinking about ZFS as the next generation filesystem without limits I am wondering if the real world is ready for this kind of incredible technology ... I''m actually speaking of hardware :) ZFS can handle a lot of devices. Once in the import bug (http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6761786) is fixed it should be able to handle a lot of disks. I want to

how to list and kill existing console sessions to VMs?
Hi everyone, If a VM is configured to have a console attached to it, like using http://libvirt.org/formatdomain.html#elementCharConsole Libvirt offers access to VM serial console's using the virDomainOpenConsole API[1] However, I didn't find a way to 1. list the existing connections to the console 2. kill an existing connection - without reconnecting using VIR_DOMAIN_CONSOLE_FORCE[2]

file.choose but for folder/directory?
Hello there, This question is relative to WindowsXP, using R 2.2.1: I am looking for a function that allows a user to interactively choose a directory so I can use list.files to process all the files in that directory. I've looked at getwd, but this is not interactive. The functions file.choose and choose.files are the right idea, but these only permit selection of a file within a

Postgres question
What are the practical differences between using postgres and postgres-pr to connect rails to a postgres database? I realize the -pr version is pure ruby, while the other is a set of c bindings, but, does that result in performance, reliability, or feature differences? Any information appreciated. extract a row
Hello there, Using 1.9.0 on WinXP... I have a data frame, one column of which is named "rate". The column has text entries like "fast", "medium", "slow", "very slow", and so forth. I have not tried to make them factors, but maybe R did this automatically. Anyway, I would like to display on the console rows that meet a rate criterion. So I want

fit sine?
Hello list, I am making scatterplots of data that vary sinusoidally over 24 hours. With a bit of previous help from this list, I now can get an x-axis with time tics from 00:00 on the left edge to 12:00 in the middle and 00:00 on the right edge, i.e., just 24 hours. Now I would like to fit a sin function to the plot. I've looked all over CRAN and the web in general, but have not found a

linux gplots install unhappy
Hello all, I use R on both windows and a "mainframe" linux installation (RedHat enterprise 3.0, which they tell me is soon to be upgraded to 4.0). On windows I installed the package gplots without trouble, and it works fine. When I attempted to do the same on the unix computer, the following error message was forthcoming: downloaded 216Kb * Installing *source* package

CampingConf?
Campers -- In a few weeks there will be a bunch of people in Portland, OR, for a conference. A long time ago some campers mentioned that might be a good time for us to get together and hold a mini CampingConf for a few hours. Is anyone interested? Does anyone want to organize it? I''m thinking Wednesday night, May 16. We could possibly get a spot at FreeGeek (not likely since they are

Looking for a commercial version of an IAX2 Softphone
Hello All, I have been looking for a commercial version of an IAX2 Softphone for Windows but the ones I have came across (i.e. Iaxcomm, Iaxphone, Diax) do not seem to have an updated version since April 2004 in some cases. We looked at Firefly but we sent emails to Virbiage/Freshtel with questions and could never get a response from them. Has anyone got any recommendations for commercial

Problems with Samba and Windows 2003 Active Domain Server
Can somebody with experience making a RedHat Fedora Core 3 server with Samba installed work in a Windows 2003 Active Domain please give me some pointers? I have a small installation with one Windows 2003 Server running as a domain controller for about 10 Windows XP machines. This is working just fine. samples to dataframes
Hello all, I'll bet this is not complicated, but I really did hunt for information on it, and tried some ideas without success. Running Windows XP and R 2.3.1 I am using the Sound package to read in .wav files, and this works fine. The R object produced is of class "sample". I want to use some of the functions in the package Seewave to do further analysis, but this package
