Samba using ADS
Hello list,
I am using Samba with ADS authentication. I am able to map drives and
open and close files with no issues with the exception of Microsoft
Outlook email files. So from within Outlook, I open one of these email
files and I get an access denied error. Even if i put 777 permission on
the files in question I get the same error.
I am using LDAP as a user and group store if that means

Hello list,
My samba server stopped allowing access to shares this morning. It gave
some funky errors. Has anyone seen these before? The OS is Fedora 9 and
the version is...
Version 3.2.0pre3-9.fc9
Am using ADS security for serving shares.
Server is EXAMPLEDC.EXAMPLE.CORP
Looks like it is saying no login servers in client log but, there are
two listed in smb.conf and they both replied to a ping

Solaris 8 and Solaris 10
All,
Is there a mount.cifs utility or mount_smbfs for Solaris 8 and Solaris
10. I would like to map drives to my Windows servers from Solaris.
smbclient works great for accessing files but I want to map the drives.
Thank you

Samba send SPNEGO if Extended Security is ON
I've checked the samba code (sessetup) and found out that samba always send spnego packet when Extended Security capability is ON.
(This can't be turned off/on ie. "use spnego = false")
Does it mean I can "never" connect to smb server that doesn't support spnego if Extended Security is supported by server?
Is my understanding correct?

Problem with cups print job name
For some time I had been running samba 3.0.10 from RHEL4. I have a samba
-> cups -> pdf printer set up which uses the user supplied job name for
the output file. The job name was formatted like this "smbprn.00001020
Microsoft Word - Test.doc".
Since then, RHEL have updated to samba 3.0.25. The job name supplied to
cups is now a random string of characters like

winbindd behaving oddly
Hello folks,
Been beating my head with an winbind and pam just behaving oddly. I have following
various HOW-TO's, wiki's, and docs, and just can't seem to get past a wall. Here a
some of the issues:
- the 1st attempt at ssh'ing to a server gives me a 'Wrong Password' in the logs. Here's
an exact snippet:

Samba 3.2, Samba 3.3 release planning
Hi,
i visited wiki.samba.org and read the "Release Planning for Samba 3.2"
information and the "Release Planning for Samba 3.3" information.
So my question is:
Is samba 3.2 development stopped and all concentration given to Samba
3.3 ? Because there isnt any further release note available for 3.2, but
instead there are some notes for 3.3 ?
Bye and thanks for your

Strange behaviour of winbind on solaris 8
Dear All,
I came across a really strange behaviour when using winbind on solaris 8.
Normally "nscd" should be turned off because it's causing problems in the
username resolution etc. When I turn it off I can login e.g. using ssh as an
AD users but when i start a command like "ls" it gets put in the background
immediately? When "nscd" is turn on and login again I

Will 3.3.x vs 3.2.x
Hi All,
Just a quick question: Will 3.3.x replace 3.2.x as the production use
branch? We're still using 3.0.28 and up on our systems and just want to
know if evaluating 3.2 is the right step, or wait for 3.3.
Thanks,
Jim Shanks

Print Operator Rights in AD environment
I am attempting to set the SePrintOperatorPrivilege right on my RHEL
5.2 samba server and need some guidance. The samba box is currently
joined to an AD forest in which I have a delegated OU, I do not have a
Domain Admin account. Samba seems to want/need an Admin account in
order to make changes to the server configuration such as rights.
So the question is. Is there away to set a

nested groups not working with sudo and winbind
Howdy folks,
I'm having an issue with sudo not recognizing nested groups
via AD and winbind. I have an AD group called UnixAdmins and
when I ad and AD account *directly* into this group, I am able
to use sudo just fine as it is in the sudoers. *but* say I
have a nested group in UnixAdmins like CustomerUsers or whatnot
it won't recognize. Now, I also restrict access via pam.d systems-auth

smb.conf(5) and winbind nss info
According to the smb.conf man page in samba 3.0.28a, the only two
legal settings for 'winbind nss info' are 'template' and 'sfu':

winbind nss info (G)
This parameter is designed to control how Winbind
retrieves Name Service Information to construct a
user's home directory and login shell. Currently the

I need something about the source explain.
Hello, I am a student.
Now I need to know EXACTLY about How Samba Works.
I have the source on samba-3.0.28a, but it's too many for me to read and understand 'cause I was a freshman.
Is there a book/paper about the samba implementation or explain for source?
Thanks.

Using %G for template homedir
I am utilizing winbind to allow domain users to logon to one of my
servers. Originally, I had specified the template homedir to have a
value of '/home/%D/%U'. This works just fine...
I would like to change it to '/home/%G/%U' but instead of seeing a
human-readable groupname emerge, I get the GID. A user's homedir ends up
looking something like

Is there a way to disable/remove "Printers and Faxes"?

Is there a way to disable/remove the "Printers and Faxes" folder/share
altogether?
Thanks,

Add winbind user to local unix group?
I wan't to add some winbind authorized domain users to the local unix
group "uucp" to give them access to some test equipment connected to
serial ports (e.g. using minicom). I tried to add their UIDs
(10000...) to the uucp item in /etc/group, but this does not seem to
work. "id -G" reports just the group memberships from the domain.
What's the right way to configure

User's groups issue
Hello,
I'm using samba 3.0.31 and seems to have an issue with getting user's groups info.
It works like a Swiss Watch when I start winbindd and do "id username" for a given user however, if I add that user to one more group on the domain and issue "id username" I don't get the up to date info.
My expectation was that after some time, if I issue "id
