Overlapping memcpy
Hello. My friend's data compressor has a problem. During decompression stage, on some corrupted files, it may issue an overlapping memcpy. He has two easy solutions for that: * switch to memmove * add a branch to detect such case However, he's not happy with either of them as they slow the decompression down to handle a case that will never happen to almost everyone. Furthermore, we

Samba 3 + LDAP as PDC join domain problem
Hi all, I've setup Samba 3.0.5 + OpenLDAP (ldapsam) and everything work correctly. However, while my Windows 200x workstation join the domain, I need to join it twice. Here is what I do: 1. Go to Computer properties -> Computer Name -> Change 2. Enter the new domain name 3. Enter Administrator and password then, it will return me that the user name cannot be found. I've checked

Problem with Samba
Yes, another newbie asking for help. Please bear with me. I don't doubt my problem has a simple solution but it has me stumped. I have a solaris server which carries some confidential financial information on it. I have been asked to install samba on it to share out a particular directory. They obviously want to restrict access to this information. We run a Windows 2003 domain as well.

Samba as PDC+OpenLDAP: unique login?
Hello all, I'm new to OpenLDAP and a moderate Samba admin. My nights became not so good while trying to get running OpenLDAP + Samba as PDC on a Slackware 12.1 server... Well, the scenario is: I have a functional and already running OpenLDAP base that provides login for users on Web apps. My actual PDC is an old MS NT4 Server. I'm using the default Samba (v. 3.0.28a) installed by

Winbind, pdbedit - does not belong to our domain
Hi all, I have a problem that started last week with winbind on a member server. The network consists of the following: Openldap/Bind/DHCP Server (No Samba) PDC - CentOS Linux - Samba 3-3.5.6-43.el5 (sernet package) BDC - CentOS Linux - Samba 3-3.0.31-36 Proxy Server (with NTLM Auth) - Mandriva Linux - Samba 3.5.3-3.1mdv2010.1 All of these work fine but the proxy needs replacing so I've

Sendmail Masquerade
Hi All, I'm usually quite good with sendmail on Centos 5.8 but I must have missed something here. I've not done this before but, I want to set sendmail so that its outgoing mail appears to come from the domain of the network it lives on. Its real hostname is server2.domain.co.uk ( the domain bit is substituted for this post) and I want it to send as domain.co.uk, that is really

Samba + LDAP integration
Hi people, Been doing a server installation with Samba as a primary PDC that uses an LDAP backend on CentOS 5. The thing is that I cannot be able to get Samba and LDAP to talk as they should and now Im really stuck. Below are my dumps for /etc/samba/smb.conf, ldap.conf (copied its contents to /etc/openldap/ldap.conf too), and smbldap.conf. Excuse my long post; trying to be as elaborate as

machine account locations
OK I'm confused. Can machines be in ou=Computers,dc=somewhere,dc=net ? Every thing works fine if I configure so that machine accounts are created under ou=Users. If configured for machines to be in ou=Computers, I can't add a new machine. Error returned is "The user name could not be found." This is from the w2k machine itself. The release notes for 3.0.11 seem to say adding

security = user, LDAP, and adding users to ACLs
Hi, Problem: I seem to be able to add users to ACLs from windows due to an "Name Not Found" error when looking up a username. According to what I have been able to find, you cannot browse users on a samba server from windows without winbind and "security = domain/ads". However, winbind does not have any place in my environment aside from remedying this problem. Is

Verification on HOW adding a machines works
I'm straddling the half-way point between samba and ldap. When adding a machine to the domain, functionally, it works like you would expect. You enter in the domain, enter your credentials, and reboot. The computer is able to function as a machine on the domain. I'm using the smbldap-tools as suggested in the wiki. Here's the script: add machine script = /usr/sbin/smbldap-useradd

nscd segfaulting on centos 4.5
Does anyone know if there is a fix for nscd segfaulting after a short period of time. Googling for it came up with one result that suggested deleting the files in /var/db/nscd , but that didn't help. Another result was about run away processes which is not the problem I'm having. They are x86_64 boxes. output from /var/log/messages Oct 9 12:56:38 lyra kernel: nscd[11660]: segfault at
