net ads join must use AD Administrator account ?
Hi all,
I want to configure a samba server (3.0.25b) with krb5-1.6.2,
openldap-2.3.37 and db-4.6.18 for single sign-on purpose. I have some
questions.
1. Is the AD Administrator account for Samba to kinit and net join the
AD only ?
2. Can I use a common user with "Create Computer Objects" permission to
kinit and net join AD ?
3. I got "Failed to join domain: Strong(er)

Joining Samba 3.24 to 2003 ADS
I'm hoping someone can give me a clue what I am doing wrong here,
Running Debian Etch AMD64, I followed the samba wiki at:
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_
<http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_&_Active_Directory#Prerequisites>
&_Active_Directory#Prerequisites.
I get mostly good results, except when I try to run 'getent passwd' or

Sanity check for Shorewall and Openswan VPN and 2.6
I''m just looking for a quick sanity check to make sure what I''m finding
is really all necessary here.
I''m upgrading a gateway/firewall from Linux 2.4 to 2.6 using Mandrake 10.1.
In the old 2.4 kernel I structured my firewall rules around the ipsec0
interface, which I understand isn''t present with Openswan
running under 2.6 (no KLIPS). Ok,
So as I start to

Use of gidNumber attribute in user entry
A few questions about Unix groups in Samba.
(1) "samba-tool user add" has an option to set --gid-number. However, I
can't see that this attribute is ever used. Can someone confirm if this
is true?
From digging around previous mailing list postings (*), I surmise the
following:
- the user's Unix primary gid is taken from their primary *Windows*
group (primaryGroupID, which

samba AD integration
I was looking at:
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_&_Active_Directory - the
Configuring Windows part says: "I am still working on that ... " -
could someone point me to a documentation on the Windows 2003 end of
things? I have done the Linux end and now need to do the Windows part
(groups, users, permissions etc.)
Thanks.

SAMBA ADS integration - windows user account rights
Hi all,
first of all is it possible to join a Linux machine to AD using a
windows user account that is not a member of the group Domain Admins?
Cause when I do this I get the following error while executing `net ads
join -d 3 -U syncuser`:
#net ads join -d 3 -U syncuser

windbind configuration
Hi,
OS: CentOS 6.3
Samba: 3.5.10-125.el6
winbindd: 3.5.10-125.el6
I have a standalone server with the above. I would like my Windows 7 users
to have access to the shares but not have to create local accounts for
them. I'm assuming winbindd does this for me.
So far the samba set-up appears to work. I have joined the ADS domain. I
can use wbinfo to authenticate users.

Samba4 Built-in LDAP and other programs
Hi,
I've searched high and low and cannot come up with the answer to my question. Basically - I run Samba 3.5 as a PDC with openLDAP as my backend. I would love to try Samba 4.0 but I absolutely require the ability for freeRADIUS, my linux server and Cacti to authenticate against LDAP, of course this means I need to be able to add SHA512-Crypt and SSHA passwords into my LDAP db. Is this

Simple AD authentication for Samba share
I have a CentOS box that I'm basically using for file sharing with
Samba. Currently I'm mapping the drive from an XP box with a Samba
username/password combination. Is there a simple way to use AD or
Windows authentication to allow the users to map the drive without
having to use a separate username/password? That is without having to
install LDAP and kerberos or whatever is needed to

BODY { font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:12px; }Hi,
I've seen many people complain about this error message by Googling
around, but I've never found a satisfactory explanation as to the
cause and resolution. I'm hoping someone on the list will be able to
point me in the right direction?

Samba authenticating against Windows Active Directory
Hello all,
I have a question regarding the integration between Samba and the Active
Directory (Windows 2008).
Current setup:
1. We have been using a Samba server to offer shared folder to the user in
my institution.
2. The users have any kind of operational system on their machines, and
they don't log in any domain server
3. The users simply map their shares at the Samba server, using their

Authenticating to AD server fails.
I'm trying to configure a Fedora 7 machine to authenticate access to
shares via AD. This works fine on other RHEL machines, but the same
configuration on Fedora maddeningly does not.
I've tried oodles of different configurations, and am currently using
something based on:

Here is my krb5.conf file:

Thus, typing: % id

/etc/passwd does NOT have my local account created - credentials are

wbinfo -a not working
Hello,
I'm trying to connect my Debian 4 samba box to my Windows 2003Server Active
Directory.
I successfully joined the domain, with net ads join. Wireshark captures a
lot of packets going over the wire, and I get the message "joined the domain
successfully". In my AD, under 'computers', the samba box appeared. So that
all works.
