Problem with if statement
I am trying to use the value of an ID variable in an if statement and
not getting the results I expected.

> with(rf, tapply(DistrictID, DistrictName, min) )
Aberdeen School Dist. # 58 Buhl Joint School District

readdir() and read() errors ignored
We've just been hit rather badly by a very nasty bug that can cause rsync
to silently discard files or fill them with zeroes. It happens when e.g.
opendir() succeeds but readdir() returns an error; rsync does not check
for an error from readdir() and so simply ignores the error (along with
any remaining files in the directory). No error is reported to the user,
who will then happily

2.0.7: inherit permissions = yes breaks setting read-only on files
Hi,
While testing the upgrade from 2.0.6 to 2.0.7 I found some kind of
misbehaviour of inherit permissions.
It was already known that the SGID bit on directories is only useable
with "inherit permissions = yes". Most of my shares depend heavily on
this (unix) feature.
Today I found out I cannot change a file attribute to read-only from NT
while "inherit permissions" is set

Samba 4.2.14 Internal DNS not returning DNAME records?
I have a bit of an oddity here: I'm using Samba 4.2.14 with AD, using
Samba's internal DNS to serve to my domain (and forwarding others to Google
Public DNS 8.8.8.8).
However, it looks like client queries (and subsequent forwards) to a
vendor's URL (www.pitneybowes.us) fail, but are successful if I query
Google directly:
[root at XXXX~]# nslookup -type=any www.pitneybowes.us

R CMD check example problem (PR#8113)
[Automatic forwarding from R-bugs failed. This message has been manually

Hi all!
I'm trying to add Thomas Lumley's defmacro() function Lumley T.

No. 3, pp 11--13, \url{http://CRAN.R-project.org/doc/Rnews/} to the gtools
package (provided that Thomas gives his OK). And I've encountered an error

[PATCH net V3] virtio-net: validate features during probe
We currently trigger BUG when VIRTIO_NET_F_CTRL_VQ
is not set but one of features depending on it is.
That's not a friendly way to report errors to
hypervisors.
Let's check, and fail probe instead.

How to use "virsh migrat" with p2p option?
Hi libvirt support,
Can you please give me some example of how to use "virsh migrate --live" with p2p option including both source host and target host?
I try to get some info from your website, but no info with migrate.

requesting a mentor for R development
I'd like to learn the process of revising R functions & packages and
then submitting proposed patches to the R Core team. Would someone be
willing to mentor me through one example?
For starters, consider an example. I'd like to revise the t.test
function to return the stderr value to the user. We only need to
change the "rval" in the third-from-the end line of

Shapiro-Wilk cpoefficients: 2 Qs
Greetings!
I want to have the coefficients that R uses in shapiro.test()
for the Shapiro-Wilk test for a prticular sample size, i.e.
the a[i] in
W = Sum(a[i]*x[i])/(Sum(x[i] - mean(x))^2)
(where the x[i] are sorted). Two questions:
Q1:
Is there a readymade R function from which I can extract these?
Q2:
I was wondering if I might be able to modify the code for the
function shapiro.test() so

Issue when calling deparse(substitute(x)) from C with "anonymous" R vectors ?
Dear list,
When calling R from C, what appears like a spurious error can be
triggered during the execution of chisq.test(x, y).
This is happening when the following conditions are met:
- x and y are "anonymous" C-level R vectors (they do not have a symbol),
but they are protected from garbage collection
- x and y are "not too small" (it was experienced as soon as they are
