Domain trusts "forgetting" trusted users
I am running Samba ver 3.0.33 on Solaris 10 (sparc) as a PDC with LDAP
for the backend for both samba and unix accounts.
I have also set up a trust with an Windows domain- lets call it
WINDOMAIN- (the PDC for the Windows domain is Win 2003 but is in
mixed mode for backwards compat.) The SAMBA domain trusts the WINDOWS
domain, not not vice versa.
I had also tried setting up trusts with

Slightly OT - Winbind and remote authentication.
Hi
I was doing some research on setting up a samba server for my internal
network (as an alternative to NAS). The setup looks easy enough, but
then I got to thinking - I already have an internet host with an mysql
DB that has usernames and passwords and it would be simpler all round
to reuse that as the authentication server. That server is also
running Dovecot, so I thought it might be simpler

plotting the lognormal density curve
I am trying to plot a lognormal density curve on top of an existing
histogram. Can anybody suggest a simple way to do this? Even if someone
could just explain how to plot a regular normal density curve on top of an
existing histogram, it would be a big help.
Also, is there some way to search through the R-help archives other than
simple browsing?
Thank you so much. Your help and time is greatly

Issues with AD trusts and UID/GID ranges
Hello All,
I'm having issues joining some Ubuntu servers to an Active Directory domain with trusts. All my machines are running samba and winbind. I have a two domains, we'll call them CORPORATE and CUSTOMER. CUSTOMER has a one way trust with CORPORATE, such that any resources CUSTOMER can access, CORPORATE can as well, but not vice-versa. On all of my CORPORATE machines, users are

Curious Question
Thanks for the help on this mailing list, I now have my personal
home server allowing access without having to actually enter any login
information. All I had to do was set it to anonymous server and use
the 'hosts allow' parameter so that only my home machines can access
it.
However, now I'm curious. This will probably sound like the same
question I just asked on here but, would it

Samba authentication against Linux-based Kerberos
Hi,
please consider the following situation in a heterogenous, Windows
Server-less network, where users use both Windows and Linux:
- On Windows users authenticate against a Samba 3.3.2 PDC with tdbsam
backend.
- On Linux users authenticate against a combination of OpenLDAP and
Kerberos.
This, of course, brings up the old problem that users have to
synchronise their passwords manually for both

SSH authentication order on AIX
I'm trying to get to the bottom of an issue with key authentication on
AIX and I'm not sure I believe IBM's answer so I thought I'd post here
to see what answer I'd get from the SSH side.
We have three different methods of authentication - local, VAS (AD),
NIS. On our Linux and Solaris servers it's very simple to set the
authentication order with nsswitch.conf and SSH

Major problems
I am having major problems on one of my file-servers. I have the root
filesystem on an Ext3 software RAID 1 between four SCSI drives. It had been
running for about two months without problems, but today I found it was
having some trouble with unlinked inodes and I/O errors on certain files. I
took it down to single-user mode, and ran fsck on it. That operation mixed
up files like /etc/hosts with

FW: RPC Error with PC Netlink
Thanks for the advice. I had played with NT4 a little bit to see if I could
use it for setting up a resource domain for windows 2003 machines- since it
looks like you can join Windows 2003 machines to an NT4 domain (so why PCNL
can't I don't know), and then establish trusts between NT4 and PCNL. I
didn't really want to have NT4 machines in my enviroment any longer than
necessary so

NUT + OpenBSD + dc2500cc + APC Smart-UPS SC620 = problem
Hi,
I am trying to set up NUT on a mini-ITX system running OpenBSD 5.5.
I have an APC Smart-UPS SC620 which runs perfectly well on Ubuntu,
with nut-2.2.1. Ubuntu system uses ASUS motherboard.
On mini-ITX system, I have Intel d2500cc motherboard with 4 serial ports.
I've tested ports by connecting them with a null-modem cable and running cu

iptables CLASSIFY vs fwmark?
Could someone comment on the benefits of using CLASSIFY vs fwmark (or
vice versa) in iptables?
I''m getting ready to implement some basic tc for VoIP and most of the
examples seem to use the (older?) fwmark syntax. Should I convert these
to CLASSIFY? Can the two syntaxes be mixed? Also with U32?
TIA,
Edwin

nmbd appears unresponsive
I am trying to get Samba 3.4.0 (on an Ubuntu 9.10 box) set up as a file
server for my home. The router is 10.1.10.1; the Ubuntu box
("chronicles") is 10.1.10.2; the OS X box I'm using for testing purposes
("job") is 10.1.10.3. From job, I can see ports 139 and 445 on
chronicles are open. Neither box has 'chronicles' or 'job' listed in
its /etc/hosts file.

Re: Need some guidance re: two domains sharing the same workstations
Hello Matt,
I've had similar misfortunes too with interdomain trusts. I think
you're working along the right lines since you seem to want to do the
same thing as I.
However the NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL is an error I always get when trying
to connect to the IPC$ share of the PDC of the trusting domain. In my
case the trusting PDC is a Windows 2003 Server.
I know it's not an issue
