problems adding a computer to LDAP domain in 3.0.23c
Hi,
In 3.0.23 and 3.0.23c in our domain controlled by samba with an
ldapsam backend when I try to add a machine to the domain I now get this
message:

'algorithmic rid base' is set but a passdb backend without algorithmic
RIDs is chosen.

cannot add new machines to domain
Hi,
i have running samba with ldap as a PDC. The PDC works fine, except
adding new computer to the domain. The Computer how was added 2-3 Years
ago works fine, but i cannot add new PCs to the domain.
The samba log says to remove the paramtere 'algorithmic rid base' and
use 'net groupmap add' and 'net setmaxrid'. The command "net setmaxrid"
is not existent.

algorithmic rid base problem after upgrade to 3.0.9
LS.
After upgrading from samba 3.0.7 to samba-3.0.9
it appears that algorithmic rid base is now checked
to be larger then 1000 .
Because of this I get the follwoing error when trying to log in:

Non-algorithmic RIDs
When I set up my initial users for the Samba domain i did not realize that
RIDs were supposed to be dynamic. I was creating the user as a posixAccount
in LDAP, and then adding the Samba elements via a script that I wrote.
Their RIDs are the same as their UID. For instance if I have a user with
uidNumber 1036, her SID would be <domain-SID>-1036. This is fine except for
idmapping for

Concern about 3.0.22->3.0.23b upgrade (algorithmic SIDs issue)
I'm compiling samba-3.0.23b as I write this. However, after studying the
documentation, I have some serious concerns about installing it.
The WHATSNEW file says that the method of mapping unix-native uids and
gids to SIDs has changed since 3.0.22. As I read this, this would imply
that upgrading Samba will cause much breakage because domain users will no
longer be able to access files they

output from pdbedit - does not belong to our domain
Hi,
I'm am in the process of migrating my old NT4 PDC to a Samba 3.2.5
with an Ldap backend. I have been following the instructions from
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/ntmigration.html
At point 16 is says to try pdbedit -Lw
This is the output I get:

clarify issues on joining Samba PDC, machines, RIDs,
I'm running into issues trying to configure a server to be a Samba PDC in
a small network that contains only Win2k/XP workstations. This will be
going into an environment where there are no Windows server. There is a
pre-existing Samba server that will be replaced, but it'll be easier to
recreate user accounts than attempt migration (there were no machine
accounts).

matching UIDs to RIDs when converting from Windows to Samba
I have a bunch of Windows users using a Win2k server as a PDC. I want
to move all the server functions to a Samba server without disturbing
the users in any way. The client machines are all Win2k, using local
profiles.
Samba insists on algorithmicly generating the RID from the UID, so the
Windows user, after migration, gets a new SID and loses contact with
their local profile. In fact, they

pdbedit: '-G rid' doesn't seem to have any effect
On my Samba PDC, using tdbpass:
'pdbedit -Lv agrotera$' produces:
Unix username: agrotera$
NT username:

User SID: S-1-5-21-4211105910-4270789338-3787013593-1414
Primary Group SID: S-1-5-21-4211105910-4270789338-3787013593-513

'getent passwd agrotera$' gives:

Samba PDC Server Local SID, Domain SID, and GROUP RID Question
Hi,
I have a question regarding an issue I am having with our new
Samba PDC. We used to be running an NT domain controller and about
two months ago, I made the transition to a Debian linux box running
Samba. The PDC is currently running Samba 3.0.8.
My samba PDC is using the tdbsam backend and, for the most part
is working flawlessly. However, when using smbpasswd to add samba accounts,

Group mapping bugs + PATCH
Hi all !
I've been using group mapping for a few weeks and found some bugs... For
three of them, I tried to develop a small patch. I don't know Samba code
very well and this is my first patch, so there could be errors :-p I hope
my investigations will be useful :)

Here is what I used :

rid generation questions
Hello list,
I have a few questions to ask... I am about to migrate from Samba 2 to 3 (3.5.9). I am going to use LDAP as backend in the future and came across something I don't understand. As far as I know the 'old' way to generate RIDs for users is to take their uidnumber, multiply it by two and add 1000. For computer accounts it would be 1001 instead of 1000. I am now trying to

Samba v3.0.23a BROKE my network
I run Samba as a PDC for a small network. I used to use smbpassword and
went through the pain of changing up to tdbsam.
I have just upgraded from v3.0.14a to v3.0.23a.
The immediate effect was that nobody could use their domain log in any
more.
I was upset. My users wished me to understand their frustration. It
was not my fault. I became cross. The dog got my dinner (it's an ill

questions about classicupgrade in wiki
Hi,
I'm just reading the wiki page
Migrating_a_Samba_NT4_Domain_to_Samba_AD_(Classic_Upgrade)
and stumble over a few things which I'm uncertain about:
The section "important notes" talks about RIDs. I do not understand the
first part of that, but there are no local users except domain admin,
and he has unix ID 1000, RID 1015 so this probably does not affect me.
The second
