getent group not working on new domain member
I have a troubling circumstance. I've installed a new domain member running Slackware64 14.2. This computer is practically a clone of another domain member I've had set up and running for over a year. Most everything seems to work. I have joined the domain and it does show up as a domain computer. The domain user can log onto the computer just fine. I can run `wbinfo -u`, `wbinfo -g` and

Winbind trouble. Wbinfo see's users, "getent passwd" doesn't
I'm trying to set up a new fileshare, to replace an aging NT4 machine we've been using for far too long. I'd like to run Linux (RedHat 7.3) on the machine. Basically, I'm trying to create a fileshare "files" that people can transparently log in to from NT4 and Windows 2000 workstations. My boss has approved the use of Linux for the server, but only if I can make it

Winbind and AD groups containing groups
I tried searching through the archives, but was unable to find anything about this. Everything regarding windbind and AD membership is working perfectly with one exception. Here's an example of what I'm experiencing: A group called "department_users" contains two groups "department_faculty" and "department_staff". These two groups,

[SAMBA+ADS] Getent passwd does not show AD computers
Hi everybody, I'll try to make it quick... Our configuration : -1 x Windows 2003 Active Directory Server + LDAP Server -1 x SuSE 10 SAMBA Server Authentication = LDAP + Kerberos. Everything is running smothly : AD Users can authenticate and browse the network shares presented by Samba. However, it seems that the AD computers are not "recognized"... "getent passwd" only

Winbind dying daily
(samba 3.0.2a via RPM, ADS, SuSE 9) Every day Windbind stops responding, although the process is active. When this happens, getent passwd returns just local users, and wbinfo -u returns "Error looking up domain users" If i 'reload' winbind, nothing changes, but if I 'restart' it, it works again, for another day. Any ideas? log.winbind, after a wbinfo -u, follows:

getent problems with new Samba version

Gaiseric, thanks for your response. the `testparm -v` gave me: private dir = /var/lib/samba/private So, I guess that means the sam.ldb in that directory is the one being used, not the one in /etc/samba/private. That helps.

weird winbind scenario
Hi, I have a box running Mandrake 8.2 and samba 2.2.4 on an NT domain. smbpasswd -j says it joins the domain ok, I use the included sys-auth-windbind file for pam, and the winbind entries are in nsswitch.conf. Everything appears to be running, but when I try wbinfo -u I get "Error looking up domain users". getent passwd only return the linux accounts. Yet wbinfo -t returns

Authentication fails - 3.0.26a-0.9-1787-SUSE-SLES9
I recently brought up our fifth Samba domain member server with 3.0.26a-0.9-1787-SUSE-SLES9 against an NT4 domain on a new subnet. The subnet also has an NT4 BDC that is working correctly. Wbinfo and getent both work properly but users can not get to the [homes] service but can get to another share that is on the same system. If I setup a share definition in smb.conf for myself as a home

RedHat+Samba+Winbind to ADS
Hi, I 've a gateway and I want to use squid authenticated with Windows 2000 Active Directory users. I've a development platform with Debian/Sarge as gateway, and it works. (samba 3.0.10-1 and Kerberos 1.3.6-1) On the other side the production platform uses RedHat Enterprise AS3, initially with Samba 3.0.6 and Kerberos 1.2.7-28. I was not able to use Active directory groups without get

winbind and system-auth (on FC3)
I'm trying to use winbind for authentication. By all the usual indices ("wbinfo -t, -u" and "getent passwd") windbind itself is working. So I used system-config-authentication (the Redhat/Fedora GUI) to enable winbind. But my winbind users are not able to log in. When using system-config-authentication, shouldn't the /etc/pam.d/system-auth file show some changes to

Samba 4.8 Config
I recently upgraded from Samba 4.4 to Samba 4.8 when moving from RHEL 7.3 to RHEL 7.6. Now our UIDs and GIDs are not mapping properly. I tried to downgrade and that broke other applications. I have also modified the smb.conf file with nearly every option I found online and it either returns "User not Found" or incorrect UID and GID mappings. I cannot utilize the smb.conf file that is

winbind problem with existing linux user accounts. (Samba 2.2.3a)
Hello, I'm experiencing a frustrating problem configuring winbind and Samba 2.2.3a on a Red Hat Linux 7.2 server. I would appreciate ANY help and/or advice. I have read the documentation which comes with the samba source, but I'm still having problems. I can successfully see the Windows Users/Groups through Linux, using "wbinfo -u", "wbinfo -g", "getent

Domain trusts "forgetting" trusted users
I am running Samba ver 3.0.33 on Solaris 10 (sparc) as a PDC with LDAP for the backend for both samba and unix accounts. I have also set up a trust with an Windows domain- lets call it WINDOMAIN- (the PDC for the Windows domain is Win 2003 but is in mixed mode for backwards compat.) The SAMBA domain trusts the WINDOWS domain, not not vice versa. I had also tried setting up trusts with
