Hello, First of all I would like to thank the Samba Project Group for this state of the art software. I would like to thank every body for helping each other out. Please ignore my poor English writing. It is not my native language. Although: I do the best I can. We use Samba for a while now. We started with version 4.0.6 and updated each time. Now we are at version 4.0.9 and we are planning to

Strange problem with MS Office while saving
Hi all, I sometime have a strange behavior when using MS Office and saving files. First things first: - OS CentOS 6.7 x86_64 - SAMBA version 3.6.23, configured as member server (see [1] for full configuration) - inotifywait watching my shares to replicate them off-site - about 100 W7/W8 clients with MS Office 2010 Using inotifywait, I tracked how MS Office file save function works. Basically,

File permissions 0070 with Office 2010 after saving
I think this is a recurrence of an old bug. Running Samba 3.5.4 with CTDB on GPFS 3.4.0.6 with the vfs_gpfs module using CentOS 5.6. It is a vanilla CentOS RPM's with the vfs_gpfs module a self compiled add on. Running with NFSv4 ACL's. Basically what happens is when a user saves a file in Office 2010 (no Office 2007 to test with) with Windows 7 on the Unix side the permissions on the

Seeking help with Samba shares & OPLOCKS & Quickbooks databases
I thought I had things figured out, but guess not. I have multi-user Quickbooks databases that functioned fine on a Novell server but are behaving badly on a Samba share. I have created a separate share for the Quickbook databases, users are running Win XP Pro, latest patches, and the Quickbooks application installed on the desktop. It is a multiuser version. Server is RedHat ES 3, Samba

MS Office crashes on files from samba 2.2.3a Server
Hi, I use a RH7.2++ samba-2.2.3a-6, kernel-2.4.9-7 PDC configured server. If I open a MS Office file (word/excel), the changes can be saved, but closing the application crashes it. I'v read about oplock problems on this list and in the net; the only solution was to update to 2.2.5 and may be to RH 7.3++. I set oplocks = no, level2 oplocks = no (GLOBAL), hoping that would help - but it

How to open a file in MS Office with double-click
I really enjoy MS Office 2003 on wine (Ubuntu Intrepid). I even figured out how to export files as PDF without distortion. There is one thing though I'm not satisfied with: Double-clicking on .doc, .xls. etc.. file starts corresponding office application (Word, Excel) with blank page instead of opening the file. I entered correct path to file but does not work. Of course it?s not a huge

Problem: Print to PDF using MS Office
Hello, I am a new member of this forum. One of the reasons I registered was that I could not clarify following question: I cannot print to PDF using MS Office 2003. I am running it on Wine, I have Ubuntu Intrepid. Of course I can open the same xls or doc file in Open Office, but these files are very precise and sensitive, and OO distorts their fine architecture. I did not try frank print

Strange MS-Access Problems with Samba 2.2.1a
Hello, something strange happens sometimes with a MS access Database when trying to open it on a samba share. The database is destroyed and I think the problem is Samba cause in the database file you can find some log entries from samba. I got some tips from a german ng but I think it is better to publish it here cause might be a bug in samba 2.2.1a. I use samba 2.2.1a on Suse 7.3 and MS Office

Oplocks...again...
I would like to know if like the [homes] section mapped to a single user at login time (H: drive) would have any of the problems discussed in previous emails. Specifically the oplock break issue. Since one and only one user can have this space mapped in our implementation (because of credential conflicts that windows does not allow), how could a user have a detrimental experience with oplocks?

Samba + MS Access
I have a single Linux server running SuSE 9.1 and Samba 3.04. I have one share that has several MS Access tables on it. One user can operate just fine, however when a second+ user tries to access the same database tables, one of several things happens depending on what I have in the smb.conf file. It's usually a permission denied, or a "can't lock" type of error. When the
