Vista SP1-rc1 appears to break against Samba-3.0.27a
We've got nicely ADS integrated Samba-3.0.27a servers that are working fine with Win2000 through to standard Vista. However, we are starting to test RC1 of Vista SP1 and discovered that once applied, that workstation cannot connect to Samba server shares - unless the share is open - i.e. no "valid user" style settings. The moment one is defined, Vista fails to connect and pops up an

Kerberos authentication sigsegvs
Hi I'm having major problems setting up Samba 3.0.9 with kerberos authentication. I have also tried with 3.0.8(from Debian SID) with same result. smb.conf[1] has 'security = ads' , and 'use kerberos keytab = yes'. I have set up pam_krb5 and I get TGTs that works with my ssh servers. But, when I try to authenticate using smbclient -k -L server I get: "session setup failed:

Coding help : Where to log X11 forwards?
OpenSSH 5.1p1 I can't grasp why, when connecting with 'ssh -Y' to this test host, I am not tickling the verbose() call below that I have added. I am logging as auth + verbose in sshd_config The X11 forward for the session works fine as tested with xterm. At any rate, I am looking for some guidance on where to log X11 forwards that are established, ideally with a username and remote

Debian Jessie joining AD as member fails with "The object name is not found."
Hi all! I'm trying to join Debian Jessie to an existing AD domain as a member server (AD DC is Server 2012R2) to run it as a file server. I installed acl, samba, winbind, libnss-winbind, and krb5-user using APT, and configured /etc/samba/smb.conf according to the Samba wiki article. The error the join command is producing is " Failed to join domain: failed to join domain

Debian Jessie joining AD as member fails with "The object name is not found."
I'll bet static ip, with correct resolv.conf hosts and nsswitch.conf and krb5.conf. This must be the clue... > Creation of workstation account failed: NT_STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND So the join reaches the AD but here something happens. Russelt, can you try again with debug 10 and post both logs. net ads join -UAdministrator and net ads join -UAdministratos -S YOUR_ADDC.domain.tld.

X11 display issues
Hi, This also has been discussed in SSHSCI's SSH context. All SSH versions (both SSHSCI and OpenSSH) derive value for DISPLAY variable from `uname -n`. The problem is that the returned value is not necessarily resolvable to a valid IP number which in turn might cause a failure. To make it fool-proof I suggest to set DISPLAY to the interface's address the user has reached the system in

Dynamic DNS updates not working
Hi guys, I'm having a struggle with Dynamic DNS updates. When i join a Windows machine to the domain the host name get registered. When I change the IP the A-record gets deleted and nothing more happens. I'm using the internal dns with Samba 4. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. log: Replicated 0 objects (0 linked attributes) for CN=Configuration,DC=corp,DC=lo [2013/02/28

[Fwd: Joining AD - wrong DNS name, wrong keytab]
Hello, I noticed within last Centos7 samba (4.10) issues with joining computers to AD. Which was no problem in previous versions (and is working with samba present in Ubuntu 16.04 - 4.3) I'm joining my clients to Active directory for example domain.org, with DNS subdomain base.domain.org The issue is that the client is joined and keytab generated for FQDN: client.domain.org instead of

Debian Jessie joining AD as member fails with "The object name is not found."
Hi all! I had originally been using a DHCP-assigned address. I have now switched to a static IP, but that didn't solve the problem (same error message). I'm attaching my resolv.conf, nsswitch.conf and krb5.conf files. I have not manually altered either of them, although krb5.conf appears to have been updated by some tool somewhere along the way because my domain is listed as the

net ads testjoin OK, net rpc testjoin fails
Okay, here's another wrinkle: if I run 'net rpc testjoin' immediately after joining, it succeeds, but 'net rpc info' fails (see below for the -d10 output). 'net rpc testjoin' fails as described in my last message after a reboot. Looking at the output from the failures, I notice that 'net rpc' is looking for SRV records at '_ldap._tcp.pdc._msdcs.DOMAIN'

Debian Jessie joining AD as member fails with "The object name is not found."
Hi all! To clarify, it must have been removed from the copy-pasta, but “net ads join -U” did produce a password prompt as expected. The dig command produced the following: root at host:~$ dig -t SRV _ldap._tcp.domain.local ; <<>> DiG 9.9.5-9+deb8u6-Debian <<>> -t SRV _ldap._tcp.domain.local ;; global options: +cmd ;; Got answer: ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode:

Cannot join Ubuntu12.04 Samba 4.1.17 to domain
Hi all I'm desperate now. On one of the sites I cannot connect Ubuntu to Windows AD 2003. Error below. On exactly the same setup but on a different network and also on VirtualBox VMs everything works as expected. Looks like something on the network then or mission parameter. Error is about KDC but I can successfully do kinit and get ticket. I can also successfully run: sudo net ads info

net rpc share allowedusers gives "Coult not query secdesc for share"?
Hi all, [Please CC me in reply, I'm not subscribed] On two of our machines, "net rpc share allowedusers" gives the error "Coult not query secdesc for share", partial debug log (-d10) below. The servers are both running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard 6.1 but we have other servers running the same version of Windows so I don't think that is the issue. This is

DNS internal confusion
4.0.6 git Hi When I join a Linux client to a domain, upon joining, I notice a dns update request reported on the DC. It works. The client IP is handed to the DC, we can login etc. However, we can't ping the client by its name from the DC. ping: unknown host. sssd maintains the dns and subsequent requests work. The dns is updated fine. With an xp client, it gets as far as: ping xp_2 PING

samba dns issues
We are using samba 4.1.9 complied from source. We have been running as an AD DC for 5 months. Lately, we have noticed that samba processor seem to consume the entire system, using all cpu cycles. This happens within about 30 minutes of starting or restating the samba daemons. When Samba slows down, the first issue that comes up is that dns name resolutions time out for any client asking for

MSH_SHUTDOWN
Hi, I'm always working on my Samba server, and put the log level to 10 like Volker said in a previous message. But, when i read any log files i see a troubling message : "got a SHUTDOWN message" Every minutes !!! Is this behavior normal ?? Following, the paste of 2 sequences (so 2 minutes of a log file) : [2009/10/04 23:09:45, 10] lib/events.c:105(run_events) Running timed
