"test page failed to print" - How to I resolve this?
This is a new one to me... Drivers install fine, but on some of the printers I get the "test page failed to print" message. I'm getting nothing in the samba logs from the workstation, smbd, nor from the cups logs. I've googled myself silly, but can only find other people asking the same or similar question. Some of them have found permissions to be the problem, but in

VSS on samba
We have recently moved our VSS database from windows 2k to samba, initially all looked fine but have come accross a problem. Quite often VSS complains saying it can't write to "names - acess denied". The file its refering to is names.dat in data/ (for those that know VSS) I believe this to be some sort of locking issue. Sometimes getting all other clients to quite VSS solves the

smbd processes 99% cpu and end-user locks up
Still having a situation, in particular with Microsoft Office products (Excel, MS Word, etc), wherein a user locks up while saving a file. The scenario goes as follows: user opens up a file (excel document, word document, etc), user changes file, user hits save, user hangs... `top` reports an smbd belonging to user locked in some sort of loop causing 99% cpu utilization. net status sessions

Vista and Samba
I was just setting a Windows Vista machine up on my network and have the following problems. If the user logs into the domain, then there are no network drives showing. It is as if the script is not executing. If I logon locally with an administrator and then run '\\server-name' to get a list of drives, I can see them but nothing shows up in any of them except for two of the shares

roaming profile unusable after smb ports = 139
Hello, I have a big problem with a samba setup. After I tried the config option smb ports = 139 in the global section, 90% of the roaming profiles are not usable by the windows XP clients. Removing the smb ports options didn't help. No errors in the samba logfile. erasing the profiles seems to fix the issue, but I cannot afford losing all my users profile data! here is my smb.conf.

Tecnical issue with samba and .mdb file
Hello everybody, I'm having trouble with samba 3.5.11 and an access 97 database. I work in a business with 5 users that use a mdb database over samba, and for the first to make a query everything works fine, but if some other user tries to make a query when the first one is doing it, the database works really slow, like if the .mdb file is being blocked (that's what I suppose). I've

SOLVED - Re: login to ms access db very slow on samba 3.x
Hello everybody, Hi Jorge We have found a solution to the problem I've posted earlier to this mailing list; see below for the full history. There was a function in our runtime application which would rebuild all links to external access tables each time the application was started. To keep it short, we're checking the presence of a certain value when starting (in the windows

Forward Stepwise regression with stepAIC and step
Dear all, I cannot seem to get the R functions step or stepAIC to perform forward or stepwise regression as I expect. I have enclosed the example data in a dataframe at the end of this mail. Note rubbish is and rnorm(17) variable which I have deliberately added to the data to test the stepwise procedure. I have used wateruse.lm<-lm(waterusage~.,data=wateruse) # Fit full model

Samba + MS Access
I have a single Linux server running SuSE 9.1 and Samba 3.04. I have one share that has several MS Access tables on it. One user can operate just fine, however when a second+ user tries to access the same database tables, one of several things happens depending on what I have in the smb.conf file. It's usually a permission denied, or a "can't lock" type of error. When the

Application slowness after samba upgrade
Hi We have upgraded a very old Samba server to a new server running 3.0.22 on Ubuntu. The the workstations were Windows 98 on very old hardware and are now Windows XP on new hardware. Everything is now very fast compared to the old server, except for two applications - a payroll (Ace Payroll) and and finance system (Profax). Somewhat contrarily, these two apps are MUCH slower on the new server

Oplocks with concurrent access from same client
I am observing the following behaviour with samba-2.2.12 (Yes, I know, it's old) and MS-Access XP on a Win2K box: The client opens a .mdb file and gets a level2 oplock. Then it opens the .mdb file again and loses the oplock (at least I assume it does: The server sends an SMBlockingX request to the client and waits for another SMBlockingX request from the client before sending the Reply to
